gigantes

for some reason i'm kind of fascinated by the origins of people. feel like sharing?

1) what are your roots?

2) if you could have any particular extra roots in a culture / ethnicity of your choice, what would it be?

3) any particular comments about being the species that you are? like, positive or negative?

myself, i'm half peruvian (born there), one quarter german, one quarter english. but if i could add another influence, it would be celtic (like irish / scottish / welsh / old french) or asian (chinese or japanese). and yes, i'm proud to be peruvian, but still embarrassed that my spanish is so primitive (after age four i grew up in the USA).

Mexican is my ancestry from both sides of my family. My parents come from the same city and state (Culiacan, Sinaloa) From mine and my fathers pale skin tone and family color of past generations and the information I've received, most of my ancestors were of Spanish origin and indigenous native Mexicans. I know of no specifics.

I was born in Los Angeles and have lived here in California all my life but have traveled to Mexico quite frequently throughout my life. I have always been content with being Mexican, although I would have hated to be dark in skin color. Since im not, the race and origin of where I come from doesn't really bother me in the least. Ive always leaned towards being what some people would consider 'acting white' but wouldn't really wish to be Caucasian or anything. Most Mexicans that describe with that phrase are usually ignorant people anyway.

Wish I had some Japanese blood so I can go Ninja/Samurai on my haters:rockon:

That's the racial make up of like 75-80% of the Mexican population.

I'm Filipino, but around 1/10-1/8 Spanish. Both my parents came from families which had pure Spanish roots, with a little Chinese blood thrown in from my grandpa on my mom's side. Wouldn't really wanna change a thing as our culture's so diverse and the history, however point of view it may come from, will always provide a great blend of information, philosophy, and narrative. Regarding the last question, well, I think we tend to bring the wrong people into office. Oftentimes, the elections really just becomes a popularity contest, which explains the number of former and current celebrities and media personalities who are now politicians. Then again, everyone accusses everyone of corruption here. :oldlol: Will think of other comments later (but probably due to our "manana" habit, I'll probably put that off til much later on :lol)

Mexican. Both of my parents were born in Mexico (Jalisco), my great grandfather from my dad side was born in Spain, my grandma from my mom side is light skinned with blue eyes, I'm guessing she has some french in her blood and I'm also guessing I have some native american blood since I saw alot of Native American writings on rocks when I visited my Dad's hometown in Mexico. Both of my parents look Mexican, although there are times when my Dad's brown eyes do look hazel. I have black hair & brown eyes and for the most part look like your average Mexican born in America (Born in the Bay Area).

1) what are your roots?
Mother is black, father is Puerto Rican. I have a bunch of other blood mixed in from my mother's side; blackfoot indian is the main one i can remember.

2) if you could have any particular extra roots in a culture / ethnicity of your choice, what would it be?
I'm cool with just being black. Nothing against non-blacks, but if i had to be reborn, i'd choose black again. We're the coolest people on the planet. We just need a better love for education as oppose to a love of money.

3) any particular comments about being the species that you are? like, positive or negative?
Black people are disappointing when i consider our history. From slaves, to flourishing communities of doctors and businessmen, to pimps, hoes, drug dealers, and addicts. We can be such a greater people (especially considering our small population) that i don't understand why we appear to have the least unity of all the races in America.

A positive thing i like about being black is that no matter where i am, i never feel like a stranger when around other black people. If i'm walking down the street and another black person is passing by, we always acknowledge each other with a head nod or hello. I like that small sense of community, if you can call it that.

I also like that our population is around 8 or 9 percent. Despite how much people say we pop out babies, compared to the mexican our numbers are actually decreasing in this country (jail has a lot to do with that), but the smaller our numbers are, the more hope there is for getting our culture back on track. I can't wait for that day.

Why the f*ck are Montenegron guys so fukking tall and Albos so fukkin short?
Also why are Romanian/Bulgo/Albo girls so fukking gorgeous and feminine and Greek/Macedonian women so goddamn fat and hairy and manly looking? (No offense)

Furthermore, why does one part of SE europe have a bunch of stocky bearded Muslim looking guys who are strong as fukk and participate in organ human traffiking while the other part has a bunch of -ovic sounding dudes who like to camp by the baseline and shoot threes and smoke all day and eat cevapi.

Furthermore, do all of you collectively hate the Serbs? I know the Kosovo/Bos/Albo Muslims and the Christian Croatins aren't the bset of friend, but they seem to be a-okay.

1. I'm caucasian.

2. Melanesian probably, those black people with blond hair is unique, and I look like pretty average here.

3. I honestly do not think there's positive or negative things according to what race you are. Except those imposed by our racist culture, and some minor differences in our physical ability, but they are only noticeable when it comes to professional sports or things like that.

On the other hand a curious thing I can tell you, is that many people in the U.S. think that the Spaniards are not white and Spain is close to Mexico.

1) what are your roots? I'm Puerto Rican, born in Brooklyn. One of my parents was born in PR, the other in Brooklyn.

2) if you could have any particular extra roots in a culture / ethnicity of your choice, what would it be? Nothing, never particularly felt anything was missing.

3) any particular comments about being the species that you are? like, positive or negative? If you want negative, growing up i felt like we had a lot of victim culture going on. Woe is us, we are picked on, nobody gives us a break. Which at times was true (i've went into detail prior on this board about the shit i took from cops growing up essentially doing nothing). But goign woe is me and not trying to better yourself pisses me off. It's much less now i think.

On a more serious note, Albanians are a completely different ethnicity from us SLAVS (Croats, Slovenians, Serbs, Bosnians, Macedonians, Montenegrins)... so it might have something to do with that :D

Also why are Romanian/Bulgo/Albo girls so fukking gorgeous and feminine and Greek/Macedonian women so goddamn fat and hairy and manly looking? (No offense)

Whoa, you have then seen some very random people... because by majority any other balkan women/men > albanian men/women... trust me.. Croatian/Bosnian/Slovenian/Montenegrin women are the most beautiful... and the hardest ones to tame.. :)

Furthermore, why does one part of SE europe have a bunch of stocky bearded Muslim looking guys who are strong as fukk and participate in organ human traffiking

lmao.... Anyways, its just an ideology presented to us (slavs) by the Turks very long time ago, we are all the same people/culture/language really.... except the Albos... Islam is very different here culturally, what you see/learn from Islam as an American is very stereotypic and very Arabic/middleeastern, the women wearing headscarfs, the men with the beards and turbans and white pyjamas... lol... that is more about culture rather than religion, non of that is obligatory as a Muslim haha... its just like the Christian culture difference in Sweden and Mexico... understand?? But here, you wont see the difference between a Christian or Muslim woman/man here in any way... unless that Muslim is from Saudi Arabia and that Christian is from Mexico or Africa or something....

while the other part has a bunch of -ovic sounding dudes who like to camp by the baseline and shoot threes and smoke all day and eat cevapi.

Because that is life here! We are born with a sports ball in one hand and Cevapi or Pita or Cufte or Burek on the other! Those calories need to be burned somehow, but we dont like to overwork, shooting threes is as far is it goes and thats why we are good at it, lol

Furthermore, do all of you collectively hate the Serbs? I know the Kosovo/Bos/Albo Muslims and the Christian Croatins aren't the bset of friend, but they seem to be a-okay.

Nah, generally all (including Slovenians, Croats, especially Croats) hate/hated Serbs more than anybody else, mostly due to their politics and support for what happened in the 90s for example... has nothing to do with religion, trust me, how else would you explain Serbs genocide, war on Croats???? Croats hate Serbs probably more than anybody.... Its not Serbian peoples fault entirely, its their dictators fault Milosevic.... dude was crazy, tried to overtake all Yugoslavian states so it should be called Serbia, he literally was the reason to everything that happened to Yugoslavia...

The hate is generally over right now, its all love and peace, i have friends of all corners, we never mention politics, we try to move on, not forget, but just move on.... the only conflict that still exists and will probably never vanish completely is between Albanians and Serbs in Kosovo........

PS: Albanians (Sqiptars) migrated to Yugoslavia, they are not Slavs like everybody else and dont speak our language and most of them cant speak our language to this day which is Slovenian, Croatian, Bosnian, Serbian, Macedonian, Montegrin, all the same really, just dialects... with that last part being said you can now maybe imagine how stupid this war was, its like if California battles Arizona, Texas or something causing all those states to split from "USA" and now are their own nations/countries...

PS #2: What a god damn shame Yugoslavia split up, we dominated basketball and would dominate basketball still to this day in Europe... :banghead: and even given USA the best fight they ever had in the Olympics and maybe even win due to the teamwork, effort & will... :)

Albo's really aren't that short, it all depends where they are from. The Kosovar Albanians and the Albanians from Northern Albania are tall people(over 6 feet average) but the other ones are pretty short.

In general Balkan people are reported to be the tallest in the world and I think it has to do with the mountains. Montenegrin are giants lol

And Albanians aren't muslim. Majority of them are atheistic/agnostic

Dad's side- 1/2 Ukrainian, 1/2 Austrian

Mom's side- 3/4 Polish, 1/4 Ukrainian (although still can't get a straight answer as to whether my mom's one GD is actually ethnically Ukrainian or Polish so she may be entirely Polish).

Technically may be party "Jewish" if you consider that an ethnicity. Dad's mom was from Salzburg and her last name was Steinberger. My dad and his siblings don't look stereotypically Jewish in any respect...and I certainly don't with my blondish, thin as **** hair (lol). Something I may look into someday. Don't know how many people had/have the name Steinberger and weren't/aren't Jewish though (in the share some common ancestory sense, not in the religious sense).

Can't think of one other ethnicity I would want to be over the rest. If I was part Dutch I may be closer to the height of some of my good buddies (6'2" and such)....would look better in pics for me. lol

Bosniaks/Croats/Serbs are the same ethnicity, it's just religion has separated them.. Croats=Catholic, Bosniaks = Muslims, Serbs=Orthodox

They actually did, Kosovo was first touched by Slavs, Serbs and was ruled by even Turks (Ottomans) sometime... Albanian presence in Kosovo and in ex. Yugoslavia is recorded since the medieval period, Albanians are/were Albanians... they came from their own grounds:
http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/images/map-albania.png

Albanians in history went into war trying to takeover that Kosovo (Slav/Serbian) territory against Serbs (and losed) and then Turks/Ottomans (and losed) and then Serbs again in the 90s trying to literally make Kosovo Albanian (and losed actually, but good ol USA came into the picture and made it possible).... so now, Kosovo (which is/was Slavic ground) is ruled by Albanians and all the Slavs and Serbs were forced to emigrate out of their own ***ing land to not risk getting killed....

There is a reason Serbs went Psycho on entire Yugoslavia (and probably hate USA lol) :D...

myself, i'm half peruvian (born there), one quarter german, one quarter english. but if i could add another influence, it would be celtic (like irish / scottish / welsh / old french) or asian (chinese or japanese). and yes, i'm proud to be peruvian, but still embarrassed that my spanish is so primitive (after age four i grew up in the USA).

you?
1. My family is from the Soviet Union, mostly around Ukraine/Belarus area. I was born in Latvia, ethnically and culturally I am a Russian Jew.

2. Nothing, I got good athleticism and a good head on my shoulders. I don't need some other ethnicity mixed in throwing off the balance.

3. I dislike the fact that many of my "species" are Zionists, which is a completely idiotic viewpoint especially if you don't live in Israel. Also don't like that a lot of people from Russia are racist. I like the rep Russians get in America (well sort of), I don't like the whole Russian mafia bullshit, but I enjoy that people think we're fun and like to drink. Which is true.

It is crazy how the first thing people mention when i tell them I'm Somali is something about pirates or black hawk down. Also I forgot to mentioned in my original post that I wish I could appreciate somali poetry and music more.

1) what are your roots?

1st gen American. Irish/British parents

2) if you could have any particular extra roots in a culture / ethnicity of your choice, what would it be?

none. I am content with who I am

3) any particular comments about being the species that you are? like, positive or negative?

Only negative really is that the food of the English/Irish isn't anything to write home about, but it's a fascinating culture and Ireland especially has a very warm and accepting culture

Because:

http://www.unmeaningflattery.com/blog/images_upload_blog/2009_11_11_Ten-Montenegrin-Comendments.jpg

On a more serious note, Albanians are a completely different ethnicity from us SLAVS (Croats, Slovenians, Serbs, Bosnians, Macedonians, Montenegrins)... so it might have something to do with that :D

Most Montenegrins and Northern Albanians are the same people. Many come from the same tribes. Same mountain traditions, culture, and etc. Basically Montenigrins are Albanians in denial. Like the guy in your picture, a typical dinarid looking Albanian male.

;)

Sorry Albanians are regarded as indigenous to the area by most historians/scholars. While South Slavs are products of Slavic invaders from 700 AD or so.

A lot of people don't like being called African American, and neither do I. Mainly because I'm Swedish and Latvian.

thanks for all the awesome replies. great stuff...

@dolphin,
it's an interesting thing about the german names that make their way to the states. i mean, because of the pre-WWI and pre-WWII diasporas, i think most german names in the USA turn out to be around 75% jewish in origin.

but the names themselves are still german, you know? for example, "stein" means stone, and "berg" or "burg" means mountain. so i think "steinberger" was probably a mountaineering guide in the german alps, or something like that.....

I have never really seen African European used because most European blacks can still be distinguished ethnically.

1) what are your roots?

Dad is 100% Sudanese. Mom is half Turkish, half Sudanese, which makes me 1/4 Turk, 3/4 Sudanese. (very common, there is a tribe in Sudan that migrated from Turkey hence the otherwise odd at first glance mix)

2) if you could have any particular extra roots in a culture / ethnicity of your choice, what would it be?

Anything from West Africa. Dem boys are born like they been in the gym their entire life lollll

3) any particular comments about being the species that you are? like, positive or negative?

Positive: Our women are amazingly sexy.

Negative: I'm from the Republic of Sudan. which now differs from the newly established South Sudan. We speak arabic and as such have used it to justify many years of racist and violent actions against people of the South, Darfur especially. Other than the language and religious differences there is not much that differs, making these racist attitudes ridiculous and shameful. Years of genocide of the our neighbours to the South are one of the main reasons I would hesitate to take pride, if only for a moment, in where I'm from.
