I feel like Kobe having a twitter is a bad thing. He has way too much to lose as he rarely sensors his thoughts, and just speaks his mind. This leads to a form of vulnerability rather than the BLACK MAMBA stone cold killer persona.

that persona is in your head, not his. He will be the same player no matter what. If some scrub decided to challenge him on the basis of what he tweets, watch out. Interesting tweet nonetheless, especially after such an effective game, individually speaking.

He's a grown man and has been around long enough to know there things you can and cannot say. Kobe speaking in front of a group of reporters is not the same thing as typing out his thoughts, he has plenty of time to censor and carefully consider his thoughts.

I thought champions are supposed to fully believe they are the best, that is what Kobe fans have been telling me for 15 years :confusedshrug:Only idiots think they're invincible. Being slightly insecure, and self critical is probably necessary for maximizing one's potential. You just have to set that aside, and emotionally detach yourself from outcomes, when the time comes to perform. The trick is to understand your weaknesses, without letting them paralyze you. You have to use your failures and weaknesses as motivation to keep pushing, instead of letting them discourage you.

I like Kobe's attitude. He's fighting an impossible battle, but he refuses to let it break him.

red1

i don't understand. why would kobe wonder if he is done? he is having a great year and was phenomenal tonight.
On the real he is depressed now fo sho. He played a near perfect game and they still lost. Only now is he starting to realize how much effort he will have to put in to win the chip. This is a realistic scenario and what his outlook for the next few months looks like

grind all year and grab a low seed
grind through a playoff series vs clipps
grind through a playoff series vs warriors
grind through a playoff series vs thunder
grind through a playoff series vs heat

He knows he can't possibly play better. He can work his ass of all day and spend 500 hours in the gym but it still won't be enough unless everything about the team changes. At this point the reward is not justifying the effort so retirement is starting to look more and more attractive. The only reason he came back is for #6 and that since that is no longer a realistic goal for the season he is starting to think "f*ck it."

It's a win/win, Kobe fans aren't true Laker fans, everyone knows that and your GAWDbe gets to match his idol in titles, giving you even more ammunition on your silly Kobe>Jordan crusade!

SOS: Send more HOFers and all stars :(

Kobe is the only player on the Lakers who is truly worthy of being an all star. Nash has played well, but missed like 25 games, Howard has been a huge letdown, and Pau is living off reputation and is a shell of his former self. The whole "Oh, look at all of the HOFers surrounding Kobe" thing is just a buzz line. Nothing more. If these guys were all playing well and Kobe was the one playing like crap, then he actually would deserve the blame for not living up to his side of the bargain. But that obviously hasn't been the case.

Lots of big time names on the Lakers, just not a lot of big time performances outside of Kobe. Kobe has lived up to his side of the bargain. He's putting up 31/5/5 on 48% shooting and shows up to play just about every game. He is literally the absolute last of the Lakers problem. Any reasonable person would agree.

Just stating the facts here.

You could say the same thing about a lot of great players in a lot of different seasons.

That's true and completely irrelevant to his post. He is simply stating that it is a shame for a great season of Kobe's to (appear) wasted in terms of going deep (if at all) into the playoffs. This doesn't mean that there haven't been others- it simply means exactly what he said.

http://www.latimes.com/sports/lakersnow/la-sp-ln-lakers-kobe-bryant-self-doubt-20130105,0,5780891.story

The message popped up on Twitter near midnight, not long after the Lakers lost to the Clippers.

"Thoughts of self doubt...Am I done? Is this how my career will end?? I REFUSE to give in to these thoughts. #strongwill #countonchallenges"

It was from Kobe Bryant. He didn't step back from it 12 hours later while talking to reporters after the Lakers' practice Saturday.

"Everybody has it. I'm human just like everybody else," he said. "I think the way I react to it is probably a little different than anybody else. I don't feed into it. I'm able to face it. I'm able to deal with it. I'm able to roll through it."

Bryant added that he wouldn't "capitulate" to it. Nor was he worried that teammates would see his vulnerable side.

"I think it's good for them, especially for them to know I have those moments as well," said Bryant, who is under contract for one more season (and $30.5 million). "I'm sure they've had them. I don't know how they respond to them. In certain instances, maybe they let the self-doubt get the best of them. I refuse to let that happen."

The Lakers have been beyond vulnerable this season, falling to 15-17 after their 107-102 loss Friday to the Clippers.

Bryant was surprisingly calm afterward and again a day later. He even took a trip down memory lane, painful as it might have been.

Surprised Kobe joined Twitter. Is it legit? There have been many fakers in the past couple years.

As for the post itself, it's an actual meaningful twitter post from an athlete. I like it.

It peels back a layer of Bryant. Without losing his more concentrated mystery compared to his peers. He makes himself relatable by mentioning self doubt.

Makes him sound potentially weak, then he obliterates that thought to smithereens with the determined rebuttal to such self doubt. And that's why he's still relevant today.

He won't stop, he's super motivated. Even if at times misplaced. BTW, love the way he played last night.

He even at times played quality defense on Chris Paul.

You imbeciles can't read or something? Did you miss the part where he said "I REFUSE to give into these thoughts"? Don't talk about how champions are supposed to talk when he's got FIVE and your fav teams combined probably have zero.
