Endorsement. Jordan pays the team to showcase the shoe for that game. It's not just free, THey get paid to wear the shoe.

I used to work for a online shoe company... Melo would order 14 pairs of different nikes (air max, barkleys, pennies...)and Jordans at a time...Eddie curry is also a big sneaker head...

I got free shoes in high school so I imagine they do get free shoes in both college and NBA.

Most likely yes. What I'm curious about is how many times pro players wear the same shoe.

Jamal Crawford was wearing only one pair before it caused him some foot pain

Curious about how many times they switch shoes? I guess not much, if so then ebay would be flooded with game-worn shoes.

Plus its nicer to wear broken-in shoes anyway.

I read they actually switch shoes every 4 games or so. and thats supposedly why jamal hurt his foot. he was wearing the same pair of hyperdunks for a while, and when he finally wore a new pair, he hurt his foot.

Dirk is known to wear the same pair if the same if on win streak. I remember him saying he only switched because the nike arrow fell of one of his shoes.

It is against the rules. UNC players gets all their Jordan stuff for free. UNC is a Jordan school. Like Duke is a Nike School, South Carolina a Under Armour school etc.

A shoe company could provide the entire league with shoes for <$1.000.000,- a season. Considering what companies like Nike spend on advertising they would be crazy not to give out free shoes to athletes.

Cheap to manufacture, huge revenue from overpriced products. Free shoes is no problem.
