He deserves his own thread. Easily the best dunker we've had since Wince Harder. Kid is a beast, he's gangsta and he's dripping with swag. :D

Hope he's in the Dunk Contest this year.

He actually said (a few months ago I think) that he doesn't want to be in it because he doesn't have the creativity or the props to do it. But Derozan and Calderon are campaigning hard for him to be in it.

Watching Ross throw down sick dunks is one of the reasons why I continue to watch the games.

is it just me.. or it seems that players get more ref calls after the dunk contest??

perhaps i) more fame and therefore more respect from the refs? or ii) ref know you can get up there so if u dun finish, u must have been fouled?

just seems to be that vince carter, t-mac, moon, derozan got to the line much more after entering dunk contest (refs honoring calls i mean)

Man, his demeanor so much reminds me of a young T-mac. He just made an incredible display of athleticism, timing, and co-ordination look completely effortless. Not even a change in facial expressioin. :applause: :pimp:

I agree with Bokes watching t-mac when he was a rookie he had a similar demeanour - effortless yet smooth.

DeRozan still doesn't get any respect from the refs.

The East's entry includes Ross, the Indiana Pacers' Gerald Green and the New York Knicks' James White. The trio will be pitted against defending champion Jeremy Evans of the Utah Jazz, along with the Los Angeles Clippers' Eric Bledsoe and the Denver Nuggets' Kenneth Faried.

The only 2 names i'm excited about on that list are T-Ross and James White.

Yeaaahhhhhh BUDDY! :hammertime: always awesome to see a Raptor represented in All-star weekend in some capacity. Maybe we get lucky and Rudy "Big Shot" Gay makes the big game in 2014.

We have two previous contestants in the dunk contest (Rudy + Demar) so Ross should have a good idea of what type of dunks he's gonna pull off.

I won't expect much though; NBA is probably gonna rig it again.

Yeah, while I am excited merely in the fact that he's there and deserves to be there my realistic espectations are that especially under the current format he's gonna lose, maybe not even make the second round. To be a Toronto Raptor, and a rookie and win the NBA dunk contest you pretty much have to be a superstar (not just dunk wise). There's probably plenty of fans who don't even know who Ross is, and i'm sure even his best stuff will get overlooked.

They changed up the format again.

This year’s festivities include a new format where Eastern Conference players will compete versus Western Conference players in a two-round competition. The highest scoring East competitor and the highest scoring West competitor from the Team Round will compete head-to-head to determine the champion. Fan voting will open at the beginning of the Championship Round and the player with the highest percentage of combined votes from all platforms will be champion.

Fans will be able to cast votes for the champion in one of four ways:

1.) SMS Text Message* – Text the player’s last name to 38657 (DUNKS)

2.) Twitter - Tweet #SpriteSlam with the player’s last name

3.) Vote via the official NBA All-Star App (Available on iTunes, Google Play and at http://www.nba.com/allstarapp/)

4.) Log on to NBA.com from any computer or mobile device.
So pretty much he's up against James White/Gerald Green to make it to the 2nd round, so it's a 2 man contest really for that "Eastern Conference" slot. He's a major dark horse.

Depending on what Bledsoe brings, think it's conceivable that the top 3 dunkers are all the East guys. James White is going to win this because people have been begging for an NBA team to give him a roster spot for like a decade just so he could participate, this baby is already over unless he fails (unlikely given his history).

It's funny, I watched all the dunk compliations for each othe dunkers for the contest that they put on NBA.com. They all had some really nice ones and some of them were jam packed (even Ross has a lot of good ones for only having played half a season.) James White had like 3 dunks total and was on different teams for each dunk, and all 3 dunks sucked. You couldn't even put together an NBA compliation for him because this is the first he's held an NBA roster spot long enough to even qualify to be in the contest. He was the first person the NBA asked, and they are desperate for him to bring some of that flair that he's brought to all those other highschool, overseas and street dunk contests. I feel like it's gonna be a let down given how many of these he's participated in, his age now at 30, and a declining amount of athleticism and flair. But at the same time, his hype alone will probably carry him to victory ala Blake Griffin and Dwight Howard.

James White's legacy really depends on this, so it will be tough for T-Ross. But he can give fans some tastes when the next one comes.

I don't like the whole East vs West thing, because I don't think one of the three west dunkers would make it to the finals if they went against White/Green/Ross in the first round. :confusedshrug:

I'm not a fan of the whole East vs. West thing either. This is a dunk contest not an all-star game, and the best dunkers should be the ones making it through, regardless of what conference they play for. Also taking away the 3rd round and giving the fans total control over who wins in the final are dumb ideas. I get that you believe that fan involvement = more interest, but maybe at least have the judges judge the round and average it out with the fan vote. Because just like with all-star game votes, fans don't always vote on the best player/dunker, they vote for who they like the most. And right now that's between Gerald Green and James White, whichever one of those two gets the East slot takes home the trophy.

That was a SEXY final dunk. IF T-Ross doesn't take this home, this is as rigged as it gets.

edit: nvm i thought they only had 1 each.

2nd edit: #ROSSJUSTWON! lol

The underdog. Nobody picked him to win, and ross STUNTED at this contest.

 for real. No doubt Ross had the best dunks of the contest. That VC dunk was sick!

They should fire everyone on that TNT commentating crew.

Didn't even give a single shout out to VC when Ross was rocking the vintage purple jersey. :facepalm

Agreed!

Go Ross though, deserved it, and I was at least glad to see the considerable removal of props/gimmick this year even though so many missed dunks. Also no corporate sponsor result fixing is nice too.

I didn't expect him to win, mainly because he was going up against the 2 heavy favorites in his own conference. And agreed with Tabak that all his dunks were sick. Kind of got lucky on that first dunk though that the judges were a bunch of nice guys. I was surprised he still got a 50 after that many attempts, despite it being a great dunk. But either way Green and White both choked on their 2nd dunks. Once Ross made the final I knew it was anyone's game.

I wondered if he was gonna do a VC dunk, when asked about in interviews before the contest, he kept saying pretty much nah there's only 1 VC, i'ma leave that alone. But I guess he either changed his mind or wanted it to be a surprise. Crazy dunk nonetheless. And you could tell he had a lot of nerves at the beginning of the contest. But after that when he loosened up he seemed to hit everything he was trying much earlier.

Shout out to Terrance Ross 13 years later bringing the trophy back to TO!! And he did it with ZERO props!

Dunk of the night on ESPN

http://a.espncdn.com/media/motion/2013/0216/dm_130216_Dunk_Of_The_Night_Ross/dm_130216_Dunk_Of_The_Night_Ross.jpg

I guess you guys don't get TNT all-star coverage? But at the beginning of the night the panel made their predictions. Most of them said either Gerald Green or James White. It goes to Shaq and he says something like "my pick is Terrance Ross. My man doesn't get enough recognition in Utah and he's a high flier" And one of the panel members was like, you mean Jeremy Evans? And Shaq's like, "whatever his name is" that says it all.
