Gotta say this season Durant has impressed me a lot more, He is 6'11 but he is better at taking people off the dribble and dunking on their whole team. He also posterizes somebody every other game, those mutant arms allow him to dunk outside the circle and finish even with contact.

Lebron is the better alley oop finisher, and more creative "wide open" dunker, but I don't recall him powering it down in traffic or posterizing a bigger man in a while. Cavs Lebron used to do it often, current Lebron rarely explodes to the rim with anger, he is favoring the bump and 1 layups nowadays. So based on their performances this season, I go with Durant as the better dunker off the dribble, in traffic, vs 7 footers and with contact.

Stopped reading when you said Durant is 6 foot 11
http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/kevin-durant-390/

He was measured 6'10" when he was around 18-19 years old, so who knows.

But Durant definitely this year, LeBron the other years. That reverse alley oop by Bron against the Kings was nasty though.

Currently? Durant.

In their athletic prime (which I assume Durant is currently at)? Probably LeBron.

Just the ability and explosion to grab the defensive rebound, beat most of the players down the court, and then dunk, regardless of who was in his way. Very few could do that in NBA history on a consistent basis like Cavs LeBron could.

That guy was fun. Now he's camping at the 3pt line like a bitch.

I prefer Durant this year. He just had better dunks to me. He is better at dunking in the half court when coming off the dribble. He is explosive too.

But LeBron is better with alley oops tho.

I've honestly been feeling like something's been missing from LeBron's dunk game since he arrived in Miami. As others have said, for the most part he seems to have shelved the idea of going through people on a regular basis. Or, perhaps people have just stopped challenging whenever a James dunk is humanly possible. I haven't quite figured it out.

Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0F-AHG4LkQ

There was just something nastier about his dunks back then. Maybe it's also the fact he seems to prefer the "barely touch rim and do not grab it" style lately. He still a good dunker though. I think I've been more impressed with a few of Durant's this year than I have LeBron's though.

Durantula has dunked over several guys this year. He's getting more confidence driving to the basket. KD is in his athletic peak now. LeBron is getting slower so its harder for him to drive and smash on somebody on a regular basis. Still, overall LeBron's a better dunker prime for prime.

I think the fact Lebron is around 20 pounds heavier and more of a PF now really makes it hard to explode with quickness. Durant is lighter, has longer steps and arms so he can take 1 dribble and jam it on any 7 footer. I haven't seen Lebron blow by anyone without a screen this season, while Durant is taking guys off the dribble from triple threat or post ups then dunking hard when you think he is about to lay it in.

He IS 6 foot 9. He's actually one of the only players in the league who isn't lying about his height - bump everyone down an inch or 2 or better yet look at everyone's height's on draftexpress.com/measurements and you will see why he looks "6-11" compared to everyone. He's just 6-9 though.

Durant has been having those kind of posters since 2011. While Lebron hasn't posterized anyone in ages. Can someone show a vid/gif of a Lebron poster vs a bigger guy from 2011-2013?

Like I said, alley-oops go to Lebron, but halfcourt, coast to coast, off the dribble dunks and posters go to Durant this season.

Can't really say I've seen many OKC games this year so i can't judge Durant, but I've seen some nice Lebron dunks this year and he still gets up very high...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RrEm23CPfXQ ... alley oop converted on a pass that was almost too high

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=re-6u7-7lXM ...360 vs Atlanta

And just tonight he completed a full court alley oop pass from Wade than only he and maybe Blake could convert.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsJVpF8BDAM ... only pre-season but it still happened and is relevant in a discussion where we are discussing what Lebron can still do...ridiculous reverse put back slam...can't say i've seen many reverse put back slams in my life...i can't remember any actually

As I mentioned earlier though, he seems to have taken a sharp turn toward... well I was going to say "pedestrian" but obviously he still dunks extremely well. It just seems like his arsenal and execution have lamed up in comparison to Cavaliers LeBron.

That said, it was nice to see him do a 360 but even then, the lack of true dunking follow through is kind of bumming me out. If I had to pick between the dunkers who dunk by touching the rim then pulling their hands away real fast (Carmelo Anthony also did this a lot, and sometimes Gerald Green) versus the guys who are able to throw the ball through without making rim contact (think Griffin on Perkins), I'd take the latter in most occasions. And if folks throw the ball through all the while making significant rim contact, all the better.

Also, I really did like that LeBron James reverse tip-dunk. Another player who has pulled it off: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWOs6Vy4Slw

And Terrence Ross had a variant last night: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFZThTUEfMY

I agree with this post. Just look at the Heat vs GSW game...Harrison Barnes is listed as 6'8 which is the same height as Lebron, but Lebron lolled like he towed over him by a couple inches.

He caught the ball with 1 hand in mid air and jumped of lucas, the 1st dunk from kd doesn't even look like he finished the dunk, 2nd one the guy is a bitch, 3rd the is the most impressive. The first time I saw the Lucas dunk, I thought it was cool. I still think it's neat but I don't find myself amazed with it because at its crux (if I'm using the word "crux" correctly, which I'm doubting), that LeBron slam was a normal one-handed alley-oop with absolutely zero flavor. Had a 5'11'' John Lucas Jr. not been standing there leaning over with his back turned, the slam would have just been one in a long list of forgotten routing alleys.

And you may be saying, "Well, take away Brendan Haywood and that Durant slam is also just routine and forgettable." Good point, except I feel Haywood, Gortat, Perkins, Weis, and mostly any other player who's been honestly posterized, all create a situation when the attacking player must alter their choice of attack, make a conscious decision to attack then vanquish the opposition with an adjusted power flush.

In contrast, I do not believe John Lucas Jr. made LeBron James do anything different. Well, check that, I think LeBron James probably wouldn't have lifted his feet those extra eight or so inches backward (or maybe he still would have). Other than that, there was no Lucas challenge, he wasn't looking, and he did not force LeBron James to accept an overly difficult objective. It was just... a one handed oop, one of his easier ones at that. No classic extension: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDZSWbaP3FE), no rim grab, no insane authority. It was just... a one handed dunk. Put a bent over John Lucas under there, a table top, a ball rack, Vern Troyer, it was still just a pretty routine slam.

Of course, it's not routine because of circumstance. There was a leaning over point guard down there so it'll be noteworthy in that regard. But in terms of technical dunking achievement, I do not feel it holds up.

Since I tend to like poster dunks where the player takes it right at the defender KD is winning this hands down. I can't remember the last time Lebron just took it in and smashed it over someone in the half court.

I honestly don't think Lebron try's to do showtime dunks anymore, it's all business with him these days. Comes with maturity. How many 3 point plays do you see Lebron convert instead of trying to go up for the big jam? Seems to be more effective for him - take the contact, make the shot rather than try and poster someone and missing...

Agreed. Lebrons maturity shows through his play. Not saying Durant is'nt mature but his assets allow him to dunk easier (Wingspan) whereas Lebron is more bulked up and going up high and slamming it on someone is'nt ideal, LBJ focuses on his strengths which is taking contact because he is strong enough to take the contact and finish it.

I have very much enjoyed a lot of his dunks over the years (mostly during his time in Cleveland) but I never, ever, ever, ever, ever thought I was watching the best dunker of all-time. With people like this guy out there...

http://chriswalder26.files.wordpress.com/2011/11/15534232.jpg

I don't even see how it's slightly arguable in LeBron's favor. There is a lot more to dunking than just saying, "Can he do a 360? Yes. Okay, check. He's now even with every other dunker who could do 360's." Style, timing, situational creativity, versatility, appearance, execution, willingness to revolutionize and try new things, it all plays a role in someone's dunking acceptability and I do not believe James excels at a high number of those aspects.

I think nba.com might be out of date or something is up with the way Durant's height is listed. I remember there being a huge debate on how tall Durant is.

Here are some comparison pics:

http://blog.newsok.com/openmike/files/2011/02/spart-KDvsBosh1C.jpg

Although Durant is closer to the Camera, he looks like he's Bosh's height or taller here.

http://fullcourtpumps.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/kevin-durant-lebron-james.jpg

Here, they appear to be the same distance from the camera. Durant looks much taller than the 6'8 billed Lebron James. He looks anywhere from 3-4 inches taller.

Why do people keep debating Durant's height. CavaliersFTW and others have told you why he appears to be taller than his listed 6'9" height. All the 6'10" and 6'11" guys that he appears to be as tall as or taller than? They're actually 6'8" or 6'9" without shoes. Durant is 6'9" without shoes. He doesn't fudge his height and choose to be listed 1-2 inches taller than he really is. It's that simple.

It's a question with a first grade level answer and explanation, yet people are putting in high school or college levels of research into finding it.

But if it makes people feel better, if Durant wanted to do what everyone else does, and list his in-shoes height instead of w/o shoes height, then yes, he's actually 6'10" or 6'11".
