So was, for example, Pau's, MWP's travel.
They don't call the thing James did a travel in the NBA, fakkit.

At first I thought it was a travel also. But he didn't fall with the ball in his hands, so he technically didn't have possession. It was a loose ball and he got up.
Speaking of non calls, where was the foul call on Kobe when Bron got up? or whenever Wade was dribbling Kobe was bumping him, but no calls there.
I think that call is a 50/50 call, I'd like to see the rules on that, specially since he didn't have control going down, which made it a loose ball dive.

From the owner:
his two front paws were entirely worn away by the pavement. He had to be sedated to have his wounds cleaned. He had to be bandaged twice a day every day for four weeks. He literally wore away his paw pads. Parts of him were cut off, not just open.

In this same game Kerr and Miller went on and on about how diving to the floor is not a travel. And who here has a rule book to know that LeBron doing what he did was a travel? Everything is just a reaction based on how you guys feel emotionally.I'd have to see the clip again but I do not think this was just a routine "dive for loose ball" play. I'm cool with those and I agree they should be and are usually declared illegal. In fact, while watching local high school basketball, I'll often see officials quick to call a travel when a player dives on a loose ball and I find that very unfortunate.
Anyway I think the issue here is, in theory, LeBron diving, rolling, then standing back up and continuing down the floor. From the one time I saw the clip, I swear I saw the ball semi-loose on the floor during a portion of the play. As such, I suppose that could be a reason it wasn't whistled a travel, since LeBron wouldn't have had possession.
The spirit of the "dive=travel" rule is to prevent players from intentionally improving court position through these strange means. It is not meant to randomly punish someone who really wants the ball. If not for that rule, we could theoretically see someone barrel roll down the entire length of the court. If LeBron had the rock for the majority of that play (from the moment he dived on it) I find it'd have been a blatant travel.

They were talking about diving on top of the ball and being stationary. Not blatantly rolling five feet forward on the ground with the ball in your hands. You're a retard if you don't think this was a blatant travel. :oldlol:

And to the people saying the ball was loose at first.. Yes it was although he picked it up halfway through his somersault. It was a clear travel.. But even if you want to argue it wasn't look at the closest refs positions
You have refs on the side and on the Lakers baseline. Lebron dived FORWARD onto the ball and had kobe on his side. The refs could not see if the ball was perfectly secured as lebron lay on it in motion.. This was clearly a case where they swallowed the whistle for a superstar trying to make a play.
We saw a few plays before this them try and give the heat the ball on a blatant bosh tip out and a few plays before that they called one out of bounds on Jamison that was not a out on him.
Yes artest got away with a travel late but so did ray fvcking Allen as well as getting a ticket tack bullshit call on a layup.
Lakers got jobbed in the fourth.

Honestly I think it was such an awesome display of athletic ability the refs decided to let it go.
The intent of the rule is to prevent someone from doing something stupid like rolling all the way down the floor or something, not to prevent someone from diving to the floor to secure a ball.

It's not even close to a blatant travel if he only had possession midway through the somersault, you need to have it in order to be call a travel. Also ray alen's travel isn't even close to as blatant to metta's or pau gasol so stop using refs as an excuse as the heat had less free throws and more players in foul trouble.

I can forgive the roll because you should be allowed to dive and try and recover the ball. But you can't then stand up, let alone take a step, then dribble. Thats a travel in my book
game was lost on turnovers that lead directly to dunks, not missed calls. I can't blame the refs.

That is absolutely a travel. He possesses the ball cleanly while going to the ground, rolls (a travel), then begins to rise up while putting the ball on the ground then picks it up. He doesn't "lose" the ball. He puts it on the ground on purpose. Not sure the rules on that, but that roll is a travel.

Yup he caught it.. Dropped it and cradled it with his body to make it look like it was loose and then picked it up halfway through the roll. It wasn't a legal basketball play.

It was a travel.
Ray Allen's catch and run through the paint a minute later was also a pretty blatant travel.
Artests pass a minute earlier was also a travel.
There was very very poor officiating in the 4th quarter last night.
The nail in the coffin may have been a few bad calls down the stretch, but the coffin was built by horrendous ball control and sloppy play by the Lakers for the 3 quarters leading up to it. That game should never have been in doubt.

Kobe hits it.. Lebron grabs it for a second.. Drops it and cradles it guiding it on the floor with his hands but not holding it.. Continues his roll.. Guides it some more with his hands not dribbling just pushing it in his direction.. Picks it up.. And stands up with the ball in his hands.
Even in the nba you can dive on a ball but you can't get up off the ground once you're down. Lebron not only got up, but he was guiding the ball with his hands throughout the whole roll.

Pacers, look at the ball right after it hits kobes leg.. Lebron hugs it with FULL possession completely cradling the ball.. Then he purposely drops it and guides it with his hands while moving on the ground.
You're right he didn't pick the ball up until he started standing up.. Purposefully of course. But after it hits kobes leg he CONTROLS the ball very clearly. He dropped it and started guiding it with his hands and then picked it up.
That's actually a double dribble AND a travel at the same time. Dude controlled the ball twice.

then if he did indeed have possession that is a dribble and how exactly can you say "Lebron hugs it with FULL possession completely cradling the ball" when we can't even see if he was holding onto the ball since the angle only shows his bck and him losing the ball before standing up?

Dribble? He never dribbled the ball you retard. He passed it to himself.
He CLEARLY had possession of the ball as he was spinning to the ground and let go of it so he wouldn't get called for a travel.. Just like how he was pushing the ball on the floor with his hands and waited to start standing up to grab it. He was trying to avoid the travel but at the same time he had possession dropped the ball and picked it up.
Note to any nba player trying to dive for a ball and avoid a jump ball or having to call a timeout.. Just jump on the ball, purposely drop it in front of you, and pick it up a few feet ahead of you. :oldlol:

Dribble? He never dribbled the ball you retard. He passed it to himself.

no because in the video I just showed you it never shows him bear hugging it due to his back covering it all and only showing him lose the ball when he gets back up. I don't see how from that video you can see if lebron had the ball tightly while rolling when the camera is only catching his back. Either way it's nowhere near as blatant has metta's 5 steps or gasol dinostrides. BTW this is a self pass and travel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3f6b3tVchY That was on purpose and look how far he traveled lol

What? It DOES show Bron bear hugging the ball for a split second as he enters his roll.. Why else would you use that description? You actually described it perfectly. :oldlol: And I already said.. He didn't have possession through the roll because he purposely DROPPED the ball. This is not a dribble. He dropped it. Then he rolls with it and picks it up. That's a self pass. He maintained possession, purposely put the ball in a position he could pick it up in, and then he picked it up again. Self pass.
Not to mention the ridiculous ground he covers going to the floor and rising up but he never had poses in? So the ball was just a magnet to him?

See you are assuming he dropped it on purpose which would just be nothing to go off because that's not a fact nor could you prove it but show me where to pause in the video and you can actually see lebron bare hugging the ball

In between 1 and 2 seconds as he's rolling he has the ball pinned between his chest and arms in a bear hug as you put it. Then you SEE him let go of the ball and let it roll in front of him as he prepares to stand up and grab it. He had control dude.. The video proves it.

LMAO! That video proves he never had full possession not only does he loses it going to the ground but right after the roll too, the ball was fumbling in his arms the whole time but he NEVER HAD A FULL GRIP OR POSSESSION OF THE BALL

pause at 0:02 he still doesn't have the ball thanks to kobe touching the ball and after the roll he never came up with it I can't believe you said he purposely dropped it when his eyes were never on the ball through the roll and he was fumbling it

Definitely a travel.
He takes two steps after controlling the ball and then dribbles again...going the length of the court; this is the play that led to an Allen 3.

This is not something I would really argue about as a coach, or player, or fan really. Unless I was real salty.
Honestly the ball was banging around, and we don't have the real time view the ref had. From the camera perspective real time it looked like a travel to me. But when it's slowed down from a different angle I could see why it was a no call.
My question is this: who really cares? This isn't even the worst of the Lebron travels. I remember him triple jumping during a Warriors game once. I really wish I could find a video of it. But who cares? Travelling/carrying pretty much doesn't exist anymore unless seriously blatant. It's crazy.

Dude he was rolling with the ball CRADLED in his arms.. And he let it go right in front of him. You think the ball just was rolling in between his arms and chest and came out to a slow roll right I am front of him as he was getting up by chance. ROFL. Lebron fvcking had control and let it roll out so he wouldn't get called for the travel. He then picked it up after dropping it in a position for him to pick it up.
Dude goes five feet, down onto the floor, and back up without dribbling the ball and it's not a travel. The ball just stuck to him like a magnet and magically rolled right to where he was standing up after he did a somersault. What a joke. :oldlol:

This, especially in fast motion was as blatant as it could've possibly been. In fast motion it looked even worse because you couldn't really see him drop the ball off to himself. It looked like he dived on the ball rolled and got up with it all in one motion. That makes it even worse because the refs were calling that on anybody that wasn't a superstar

how exactly is that not possible again? he never had a firm grip to the ball iun that video you just showed me not even for a single second the ball was always moving between his chest and hands it proves it in slow motion but in real time it may have looked like a travel like the poster above you just said. It's clear you are just seeing what you want to see if you think this is such a shock of a no call or conclusive evidence he had possession

basically the post you just quoted agrees with me and it was not a shocker that it was a no call and it wasn't blatant at all like metta's 5 step to the heavens. Now you're reading what you want to read :lol

Not even close you do realize lebron gets less and ones/calls than all of the top 5 scorers? It isn't even debatable. He drives to the basket the most and lives at the freethrow line less than all others

regardless if his roll was a travel or not he stood up with the ball, took two steps and then released the ball to dribble, which is a travel :oldlol:
Those are tough ones to call because as a reff you have to consider the momentum of the player diving after the ball and give him a chance to gain possession of the ball first and when that is its difficult to tell, as i saw it Lebron dived in headfirst doing basically a somersault while trying to catch the ball, for that to be an easy travel call he would have needed to have the possession of the ball earlier, he didnt seem to have full possession until he was going up to his feet.... it may have been a travel though, not sure....
But to the point.... who cares? Even if they called it a travel or not... so what? Is it Lebrons fault? Do you really think the outcome of the game would have been different or something? Whats the point of this thread?
