View Full Version : Durant and Lebron FT attempts

How does someone like Lebron who lives around the rim get less FT attempts than someone is mainly a jump shooter? I've come to the conclusion that lebron strength and body type is working against him while Durants is working in favor of him. When Durant gets the slightest touch it looks like he's hacked because he's so skinny whereas lebron appears to muscle through any contact. Ref have been robbing lebron this year on his FT attempts:facepalm. It's the same thing I used to notice with Iverson and Marbury.

This. Not Durants fault. He's not flopping. He's truly just pretty weak. Being so tall and skinny, when he gets hit his body is affected. Defenders just bounce off Lebron

Refs take Westbrook's uncalled fouls and give those FTs to Durant.

Lebron/Westbrook get no respect in the paint because they are too big or fast for the contact to be noticed or felt. Officials expect them to finish through it.

I don't know about Durant, but i have seen Lebron get hit this year on drives with not as many calls getting made as usual for a super-star. There were even a few last night on drives against Gasol and Howard.

When LeBron gets hit, it barely affects him. When someone pokes Durant with their pinky it throws him off because he is so skinny. Which is why he goes to the line more. BS. LeBron probably gets hit more than him but it barely affects him so they don't call it.

Posted this in another thread. Nothing against Durant, it is what it is

Yeah Lebron used to average 10 FT attempts a game every season. I guess they figured he was abusing it because of the all of the And ones he gets because little fouls don't really affect him that much.

Flopping is an exaggeration of small - medium contact, not enough so a foul will be called. Taking advantage and flopping will get you fined.

Yeah he just doesnt get the calls.

Its amazing that most fans complains how much he is protected by the league and those are the same fans who says he doesnt have a jumper or post game he lives only in paint yet he is taking less freethrows than any superstar in the league.Even less than jumpshooters.

Last night i saw at least 4-5 fouls that just went unnoticed. But most of the time defenders just bounce off of him.

I laughed when artest tried to stop him and lebron just run him over.Reggie miller was talking about how strong he is

Durant is a master at getting calls. I don't know how.

I've seen him get calls even when no one touches him. Literally.. when there is 30cm of space between his elbow and the defenders arm and the whistle blows.

It's a lot easier to make calls on fouls on iso's and perimeter pumps and jumpers.

That's how Harden gets to the line a lot. Durant and Deron Williams are great at this. Kevin Martin was pretty good at it too when he was in Houston and Sac-town.

I think people still assume "low-post offense = more FT calls," but that's not the case anymore. It hasn't been since the early 2000's.

I think it's a combination of poor offensive-minded big's, how the league caters to perimeter players and the poor officiating is the reason why low-post offense doesn't get you FT calls as much as iso's and perimeter plays.

At least, it's consistent even with superstar players. LeBron's 2012 and this season FT attempts are the lowest since his rookie and sophomore seasons.

Lebron gets hacked almost every time he drives and scores. I agree with what most people here have said, the contact doesn't effect him enough to be noticeable by the officials, that and they seem to have something against him this year. Westbrook and Lebron should get to the line more per game than any other players in the league. Harden is probably getting preferential treatment, but he does drive a lot and is very crafty at drawing contact.

Yeah, I'm not really sure what's going on, but it's clear that he's not getting the same kinds of calls that other stars are getting. The difference between Bron and other stars like Durant is visible just watching the game, refs are just so much more willing to blow the whistle for those guys.

Refs are just so willing to blow the whistle for Durant. He does this move where he throws both of his arms into the air when he feels any contact while driving in and just throws the ball. Hardly even looks like a shot attempt. Meanwhile Lebron is abusing the paint at will, getting hammered by the bigs and getting 6 fts att. per game :facepalm

Lebron's type of low post game (or lack thereof) doesn't lead to many fouls anyway. When he does post up he's waiting for the double and looking to pass 80% of the time. If he's not passing he's doing a fadeaway jumper where he's leaping 5 foot from the defender. He barely has any moves on the low block that would lead to getting a defender off balance and result in a foul call.

Durant: 1390 FGA (325 3PA), 730 FTA, 513 fouls drawn,
LeBron: 1332 FGA (253 3PA), 519 FTA, 428 fouls drawn,

FGA 5 feet or less:
LeBron: 563 FGA
Durant: 365 FGA

Here's what's crazier. Compare Lebron to himself

FGA 5 feet or less:

2004: 558
2005: 586
2006: 707
2007: 592
2008: 652
2009: 569
2010: 546
2011: 533
2012: 437
2013: 563

FTA:

2004: 460
2005: 636
2006: 814
2007: 701
2008: 771
2009: 762
2010: 773
2011: 663
2012: 502
2012: 519

FTA/FGA Ratio

2004: 0.82
2005: 1.09
2006: 1.15
2007: 1.18
2008: 1.18
2009: 1.34
2010: 1.42
2011: 1.24
2012: 1.15
2013: 0.92

He's driving more frequently this season than he has since 2010. It's not even a debate, the drive was not even a facet of his game in 2011, and last year it was common against awful defenses that frequently left a gaping hole open in the lane but that's about it. This season is easily the best he's looked physically since coming to Miami, and yet, for the only time since his rookie season, that ratio has fallen under 1.0.

the only way to stop Lebron when he drives to the basket is if you flagrant 2 him. So once it's clear that he will finish at the rim anyway, most of the time the defense just doesn't bother with defending him because it'll be useless.

1) Durant is weaker therefore gets moved easier.

Lebron stans always bringing a smile to my face. Jokers I tell ya...

It's just the standard has changed. Back in the day we would complain about how much of a manufactured star Lebron was. He was getting touch calls and phantom calls left and right. Then came Durant and it was obvious Stern had to manufacture a Lebron nemesis for the future with Kobe going out....sh1t just got out of hand with him - worse than it has ever been. Both are frauds I agree.

This x10000, rewatch the 2012 Finals if you think KD gets more calls than LeBron

Do you remember how refs forgot to call 6th, 7th and 8th foul on Durant in G2? Egregious, wasn't it?

Uhm, isn't it just the fact that Durant is so deadly shooting the ball? With Bron, defenders are always sagging off a bit to be able to somewhat affect his drive or they just dare him to shoot. With Durant, defenders are all over all him of the time.

This, along with the fact that Durant most of the time is deliberately trying to get to the line just as much as he tries to score

AND

that he has FREAKISHLY long arms attatched to that skinny, skinny frame that the defenders are draped all over makes it incredibly hard to defend/contest well without fouling when Durant does something unexpected. LeBron is more of a bulldozer who protects the ball simply by being a huge body coming at you - you know you are fouling him. Players get so tempted to slap at the ball when Durant drives, people just get out the way when Bron does
