The Birdman is back in the NBA. Temporarily, at least.

The Miami Heat announced today that they have signed forward/center Chris Andersen to a 10-day contract.

Crazy how he's been a free agent this long. Dude had a PER of 19 last year. If he resembles anything close to what he was last year, that's a big boost to the Heat bench.

He could end up starting there. Definite upgrade.

They can defiantly use his energy and rebounding, great pickup if hes still got it.

Spo need to try Chris Andersen at the 5 and Bosh at his natural 4 position

He's had drug problems and he's 34 years old, for those of you wondering why he's been an FA for so long. He might contribute a little but we're talking about a career 5 & 5 basketball player.

If he plays meaningful minutes more than likely he gets injured. That's why no one is rushing to sign him.

Meh, might end up working out better than Turiaf or Dampier did. :confusedshrug:

You think he's going to go from unsigned free agent for the majority of the season to starter on the championship favorite just like that? :lol I think he'll play more of a Dexter Pittman role this year. They will have him on the end of the bench in case they need him due to injuries or something.

Not sure how much left this guy has in the tank, but a low risk signing nonetheless.

Could be exactly what Heat needs if its the good old hustling, rebounding, defending Birdman.

Per minute / Per 36 for his career he has been very productive, 11 ppg, 11 rpg with 3.2 blocks a game.

Are we still talking about Bird being a pedophile?

The whole case was based upon an extortion plot.. Bird was never found guilty of any wrong doing.

Its so ****ed up how he'll have this floating over his head for the rest of his life, even though he was apparently the victim.

Anyway, looks in ok shape

Should be able to grab some boards and set screens to free up shooters.

Might as well take the risk and if doesn't work, no big deal.

Birdman won't even need to touch the ball to be useful. If he can grab 5 or 6 boards and put up the same amount of points, add a block or 2 in 15 mins of play, he'll be productive.

Yeah this is obviously a good pick up.

The real question is why Miami took so long to get a big man like C Anderson (or even K Martin) instead of deciding to keep random wing players like Josh Harrelson. :wtf:

These guys were almost going out of their way to prove that they can do things their own way, instead using real big men like a normal team would do.

Wtf celtics only have 4 guys 34+, He'd actually be more close to 3rd-4th OLDEST

The problem with his arrest was that I was reading posts saying he was going to jail and found guilty? I never saw any hard evidence to be fair but I didn't notice any fanfare or posts about him being innocent and black mailed? Maybe I missed them but it wasn't as hyped as his arrest. It is pretty messed up how easily someones life can be ruined by false accusations.

I'm not a celtics fan I just don't like douchebags. I'm not sure what having 3 guys over 34 proves these days any way, most teams in the league have 3-4 older vets who perform. Just admit that you were wrong and falling back on the old celtics are too old jokes from previous seasons and know nothing about basketball besides the tidbits you read other people picking up on here.

i know more than probably 95% the board combined if you knew me

butt hurt is butt hurt, joke was aimed at RMWG, who is notoriously moody and would have laughed it off if he didnt have PMS today

btw 3 of their top 4 mpg are 35+, Green is 26 and Sully/Avery at 20/22 bring average right down.
They are an old team dumb bum.

3 of their top 4 mpg are 35+, so it does work. They are the 6th oldest team, and are one of the very oldest when you take out Sully.
They are also the second most experienced.

I remember watching that play live. Everyone was all on Duncan's jock for making such a crazy dunk with Birdman being posterized. But he really did a good job considering he was hit in the face moments earlier. Still a fun highlight to watch though.

If he plays well, Spo will be tempted to play him heavy minutes.

If he plays heavy minutes, he will get injured.

Right? Look at the Knicks.

The Heat need a *true* upgrade at the center spot. Bosh is not a center. If he is to play center, they need a bruiser PF. I mean a Danny Fortson type.

I would seriously wave Bosh around as a trade option. I'd be interested to see what they and the Nuggets could set up - Nuggets have a roster full of pieces the Heat would love to have, and their best player can't score (Iguodala). With Iguodala and Bosh the Nuggets could be an outside contender. It would depend on what they would have to give up.

All Net

Reckon he should start if he stays healthly...they need a legit 6'10-6'11 guy starting at PF and C...Anderson could be what they need.

Bosh's game will definately improve from this.. Do you remember the days he used to play for the raptors at the 4 position ? averaging atleast 20 ppg, playing center kind of slows his game.

And yes, Heat president Pat Riley's preference for players to not wear headbands -- a policy that has been relaxed a bit in recent years -- will not apply to Andersen.

He asked for permission, and apparently got it in a mildly comical manner.

"I was told about the code of conduct around here," Andersen said. "I went into Pat Riley's office and I asked him if it was cool if I could wear my headband, because I do a sweat a lot. And he was like, yeah, because he didn't want me perspiring on his nice floor

interesting signing. The Heat definitely need to add size. They might be alright without size in the playoffs but to play small ball like they do for 82 games + playoffs is simply too much...
