"This team needs me on both ends of the floor," said Bryant, who has taken a larger defensive role in the past week. "So unless they're going to do something roster-wise, I have to continue to push through it."

Does Bryant believe the Lakers' front office needs to make a move?

"No," he said. "Listen, if this is what we're rolling with, I can't make excuses. I have to go out there and do my job."

I believe that LA is in for a tough decision in the offseason.

They realistically wanted to get out of paying Bynum huge money while getting a young vet star. Dwight's only destinations are Nets and ATL.

LA has to make decision with Kobe or choose DWight and build around him.

LA also has good pieces that just cant be moved easily.

LMAO ... MORE HELP? Dios mio, Kobe. That's almost as soft as Bron going to join his main Eastern Conference superstar rival.

This guy just wants the APPEARANCE of wanting to win. He wants to win, but only on his terms, which means trying to put up 30 ppg instead of making the right basketball decisions in order to win.

If you're about winning collectively with your teammates, and not on selfish agendas ... that's exactly the point. If you're a legit competitor and not just a glory hound, you do whatever it takes to win with the framework of the team and team chemistry.

If that means sacrificing your pursuit of 30 ppg, increasing your efficiency by taking smart shots and getting others involved, while playing CONSISTENT stellar defense ... that's what you do.

The goal is to lead "his team" to wins. If he shoulders the responsibility of calling the Lakers his team, and he gets the credit when they win, he needs to look in the mirror when they are losing.

Or in this case, a stacked roster with a sub .500 record heading mid way into the season.

Nash- At this stage would be a great 6th man and 2nd unit guard. Nash works as a starter if you have great athletic roamer in the Marion/Tony Allen/Bradley mode. LA doesn't have that.

Dwight- Does not work well with Pau. and neither will come off the bench.

They are a mess chemistry wise.

Kobe is top 5-10 all-time depending on who you ask and what their criteria is. But anything below 10 and you're kidding yourself. Kareem, Jordan, Bird, Magic, Shaq, Russell, Hakeem, Duncan and Wilt are the only players that can be reasonably ranked in front of him. No one else has a case.

Wonder whether he'd prefer to win with a secondary/lesser role or get the all-time scoring record which would mean putting up big points (and probably losing). The former means less points but more games and the latter means more games but less points per game. Either way seems like more points and winning aren't going hand in hand.

if you care at all about your legacy, you will realize you have to win with the paradigm of doing it your way. whether your way is shooting a lot, getting other people involved, or being a defensive stout worth is individualistic but the most important part is still you are imposing your will on the game and it's your singular identity that is bringing your team to victory.

all great players are glory hounds.

The Lakers issues are not on offense really outside of FT shooting and turnovers. It's on the defensive side. And he's the primary scorer. It's Nash's job to have the ball in his hands the most creating for guys. That was why everyone was excited for Nash to come back.

And what's with this accepted "truth" that Kobe just cares about the scoring title? Yeah back in 2001 he cared about that stuff but he's been there and done that. He sat out the last game of last season when he could have shot his way to the scoring title because he wanted to rest for the playoffs.

Even earlier in the season when he was only taking 17-18 shots a game and being very efficient shooting the ball the Lakers were still getting their asses kicked. So obviously that's not the problem. The constants have been the team's bad defense, turnovers and lack of a reliable bench.

I really don't. I don't want him to be the guy that takes over for Kobe once Mamba retires. Dwight would tarnish the brand of the lakers with his buffoonery.

He has a shaq type of ego with a tyson chandler type of skillset. very obnoxious. If he would just grab the boards, get tip ins, block shots, and pass the ball, I would be a lot happier. Instead we gotta watch dis ni99a bobble passes while setting up his post moves. :facepalm

If he accepts total blame, you'll find fault with that.

If he plays well, and the team loses, its because hes a ballhog that dominates the ball.

If he plays poorly and the team loses, its because hes a loser that couldnt carry them.

If he plays well, and the team wins, he could have done better, and shared the ball more and is looking out for his legacy.

I was going to post that legacy is the last thing you should think about. You should play to win and the rest falls into place. Those who get caught up in the legacy thing have screwed the game and try to coerce their way up the ladder, at the expense of better players.

Then I read this post and things changed. This was actually poetic. It was so poetic that I couldn't read past "delineate sport from the cold harsh realities of life".

Yes, Kobe has so much help with his glamorous supporting cast of:

-The worst Head Coach in the league
-Old, decrepit Steve Nash and Metta World Peace
-Earl Clark
-Jodie Meeks
-And a bunch of soft, heartless, shameful players like Paulina Gasol, Dwight Howard, and Antawn Jamison

Note that I never mentioned Pau Gasol. That is because Pau Gasol is no longer with us. Pau Gasol was an integral part of a Lakers team that reached the NBA Finals three years in a row and won back-to-back titles. A player with arguably the best low post game in the NBA, solid defender, best passing big man in the league, and a 20-10 machine.

Unfortunately for the Lakers, Pau Gasol ceased to exist midway through the 2010-2011 season. Since then, he has been replaced by Paulina Gasol. A nonexistent post game, atrocious defender, allergic to boxing out, barely able to score 12 points a game. Nothing but a soft liability on the court.

RIP Pau Gasol and RIP 2012-2013 Lakers

Yeah Money they are one game away from the midway point. He doesn't need to take the offensive weight because DH is about 3 FGA off from last year as he enters his prime and Kobe is about 4 FGA above where he should be. Gasol is down 3 FGA. While Kobe is down 1 shot per game he takes a whopping 11 FGA more per game than DH???

When the Boston big three merged Ray Allen took 7.5 less FGA and Garnett almost 4 less FGA and Pierce 4.5 less and they all averaged between 13.5 and 13.9. All were younger than Kobe and the team was able to commit to defense and win like crazy.

So maybe that option, of spreading the ball a little more should at least be tried.

Hes basically saying his teammates are awful defenders an would like a trade in that direction. Reading comprehension ppl...

I think it's funny how he says the team needs him on both ends of the floor but keeps showing up on only one...and even then, often in the most disruptive way possible.

Kobe Bryant is so ****ing passive aggressive. He is one of the most manipulative players in the history of the game. "Blame me, but you better do something fast or I'm going to continue to play hero ball."

oh the horror

Did you say the same about your fellow Kobe Klowns during the Bron to Heat saga? F outta here, and stay mad

Bro don't come at me like I'm a 14 year old kid around here. Check yourself and sign off for a good while. Period.

So what should he have said in the face of questions? CLEARLY the team isn't working out. So should he BS and say that this team is in contention for a title or what? We're not all stupid. Or...should he come right out and say that he wants them to make the trades we all KNOW they're going to make anyway?

Kobe gonna gun for the scoring title, so he can eventually blame it all on his teammates.

Its not about the roster-its about the coach.
Its not about kobe's stats-its about the coach.
its not about kobe's team mates- its about the coach.
kobe was putting up worse numbers under phil but the lakers were winning games.
Kobe's great, but phil made him.
no knock on jordan, but phil made him as well, bulls weren;t winning shit without phil.

PHIL JACKSON is the greatest of all time.

Kobe can carry them offensively, he can do that while they suck. He can score near 30 a night and so on. He can do that and play the stupid 38 minutes a night they play him at.

However, you then on defence have to have him guard a non scorer on defence. Against certain teams, that easy, put him on the Brewer's, Sefalosha's, and Tony Allens of this world. The problem is, when that happens he refuses to guard them. He goes hunting for steals in the passing lanes and the defence falls apart because of it since Nash or the other point guards don't have the ability to stay in front of their man and force offensive errors.

So what they did was, because Nash cant guard anyone, have Kobe guard the best player on the other end. They had him guard Jennings and Irving already. He has to concentrate on that end of the floor now, he has to do the right things and not go hunting. He does a fantastic job on those dudes.

So now your asking a guy 16 odd years into his career to guard the best scorer, carry the main load offensively and play 38 a night...Kobe is a gamer, he will do it, but it will NEVER work.

He will get worn out easily and have off shooting nights when his legs aint under him and even if they make the playoffs he wont have the energy to do anything there.

They have to

A. Sort out the offence.
B. Ship Pau out for another shot creator, a tall, athletic and long 3 for example
C. Get Kobe's minutes down.

Nobody does what Kobe is doing in terms of the minutes, the defence and the offence. Durant is the closest, but he has Westbrook who creates shots, Durant rarely has to iso

Anybody putting this seasons failures on Kobe and using it to degrade his career has an obvious agenda. The man with the miles on him can still play.

The lakers issues steam from health and poor decisions from the FO on two things.......not putting together a solid bench and not signing The Zen Master.

Wow chucking up shots and shooting a low percentage still have Kobe fans think he's in the right. No player should shoot 30 attempts unless you are hot and have 50+. He's not playing team ball and when he shoots contested shots it sure doesn't help since they brick most of the time and cause the other team to get fast break points. He shouldn't have more total attempts then Howard and Nash.

Problem is that Kobe will chuck with any other player except for like Lebron. I mean he has Dwight, Nash and Gasol on his team yet that never stopped him.

I defended Kobe when people were using that stupid stat about him scoring 30+ points leading to Lakers losing...but now he is costing them games with his chucking and crappy efficiency.

At this point, does it matter what Kobe says? Haters around here are reaching epic sewer levels in terms of their hatred for the guy. No joke.

The Kobe stans are lame yes, but the haters....You hate the guy, but follow his EVERY MOVEMENT, AND EVERY WORD. You come to EVERY SINGLE LAKER THREAD, and talk shit. You SAY its because you hate the fans, but the reality is, most of you are garbage.

I mean lets keep it real here no? I dont like certain players...so you know what i do? I DONT CARE, AND I STAY OUT OF THOSE THREADS.

Why do some of you spend so much energy on something you hate? You create threads, and follow the lakers around more than the fu*king fans do :oldlol:

Shit is getting ridiculous around here, and im sorry but haters are becomming a spectacle in their own right around here. You are seriously worse than the fans, and the stans and homers on this site.

:applause: good post. truth.com too bad it will be lost in the stupidity of this thread
