We need to go back to basics," Bryant said. "We need to put guys in positions to do what they do best. We need to strip it down. Steve is best in pick-and-roll. Pau is best in the post. I'm best from the free-throw line extended down. Let's go back to basics.
"We've got to evaluate what's going on. Management is looking at it. The players are looking at it. I'm looking at myself. I'm a shooting a low percentage right now, and I've got to look at that. It's on me to make shots, but I'm having to make tough shots, getting the ball 30 feet from the basket and [expletive] like that.
"Listen, no one is more critical of their game, of how they're playing, than I am. And right now, I've got to shoot at a higher percentage, have to play better. "
But no D'Antoni, you clueless fool. Keep telling the team to run and gun with a starting lineup that has 4 guys in their mid 30's and up, Pau to keep dancing around the perimeter, Artest to keep throwing up shots in the paint before Dwight can even get position, and the general idea that no one should play a lick of D:banghead:

The problem with kobe unlike many superstars today thinks he is above the team. When he starts to miss, his thought process just makes him take more shots.I mean look at the last couple of games.I like watching lakers but it makes me cringe everytime he shoots the real problem is not the amont of shots he take but since others dont participate in offense enough they dont defend.
Look at howard its sad really lakers has nash and howard on the same team and gasol.Their shot total most of the time is behind kobe.I dont care if he shoots good. Most dont understand something unlike many teams lakers team doesnt have a role player. When a star starter gets reduced to a role player we see what happens.
I am sure if they had someone who can shoot the long ball and defend and give you 10ppg every night instead of kobe they would be better then they are right now.

its not D Antoni's fault Dwight is a primadonna that comes to play when he feels like it. same with Pau. 2 of the biggest wishy washy big men in the league. Kobe should've taken more blame for trying to take over and shooting them out of it, but he gets a pass for most of his games this season where he's been playing the smartest/best bball of his career. hard to blame Nash since he's doing what he can despite his physcially challenged self, but he has a tendency to just throw away passes or trap himself which is unacceptable. i mean every player deserves blame more than D Antoni to me, and once you all get this double low post of Pau/Dwight its just going to be Mike Brown offense again where teams just collapse and crowd with no lanes and Lakers are living and dying by jumpers and ft's. Pau being down low is not the solution to anything :facepalm its like a temporary cure for one good game, then he has 3 bad ones where he's soft and missing short J's.

The most important thing that happened in this thread is that I saw a post by Knoe Itawl for the first time in several years.
Have you been around this whole time and I just haven't noticed?
And, yes, what Kobe said,
Steve is best in pick-and-roll. Pau is best in the post. I'm best from the free-throw line extended down.
Is true. Especially about himself. I have no idea why he ever takes a shot outside the free-throw line extended. I never see him miss those, doesn't matter who's draped over him, and they're usually shot in rhythm.

I'm speaking more to the fact that everyone ignores all the other things he said about Pau and Nash just turns it into a typical bash Kobe thread. And that stat that the Lakers have a losing record when he scores 30 or more points is bogus because the team as a whole has a lot larger issues, but keep ignoring that and central in on Kobe's shooting :confusedshrug:

Kobe's been struggling recently, but the team was still pathetic when he was tearing it up before.
This is on D'Antoni and anyone who suggests otherwise knows nothing. It was at this buffoon's advice that Pau Gasol, 7-foot former 19/9/4 championship level #2 option renowned for his masterful post game, started camping out at the 3-pt line hoisting up threes.
Only when he came to LA did Dwight Howard go from 21/15 consensus top 3 player to a glorified role player getting 5 FGA/game several nights.
This lunatic of a head coach has what is at worst the second most stacked team in the league, a roster full of stars who would easily, easily thrive in a half court setting if you ran post-ups and pick and rolls non stop. Instead he insists on post players jacking up threes and continuous chucking, leading to easy transition points for the opposition because your slow players cannot get back on defense after long misses.
A sane coach realizes the the gifts he has to work with on this Lakers team and plays a style suited to their strengths. The insane Mike D'Antoni thinks benching a star talent and replacing him in the starting lineup with a scrub for the simple reason because he "spreads the floor better" will lead to W's.
Fire this fool already! He sucks!

Yeah but the Lakers sucked even before D'Antoni so the argument that he is the source of the problem is irrelevant. In fact, the Lakers still suck. It's just that they don't suck like they did before.

Well the bolded we're in agreement with. As far as the shooting 20+ times thing again it's such an arbitrary number that doesn't tell the whole story. Early in the season he was averaging 20 shots on good efficiency yet the team was still losing. Games where he shoots under 20 it could be blow outs so he doesn't play, games where he shoots over 20 could be blowouts but the coach keeps him in the game for some stupid reason. If he takes 30 wide open shots than so be it, and that goes for anyone else on the team. I'd love to see Dwight hoist up 20 shots a game, but the reason he doesn't is completely on Dwight.

You mean Kobe lays down the HAMMER on himself? At least he's living in reality unlike his stans. Dude has been absolute garbage on the court recently, on both sides of the floor. And this is just ridiculous:
"I've tried to go out of my way to get him the ball," Bryant told Y! Sports. "Sometimes I end up looking like an idiot, because I get up in the air, I've got a shot, but I try to find him. But he thinks I'm going to shoot, so his back is turned.
Now why on Earth would Dwight Howard who is lucky if he take 5 shots nowadays be expecting Kobe with his 25-30 attempts per game to shoot the ball... when he's in the act of shooting? He had like 2 or 3 possessions where he dribbled and pulled up only to have Jimmy Butler right in his grill and then last second decided to bail out of the shot and throw it at the back of Dwight's leg. That's on Kobe's piss poor decision making and taking his teammates out of the mix, not on Dwight getting in position to try to rebound yet another Kobe brick.

Coach Brown sat him down once, in a game where Kobe's defense was pathetic and Kobe was stunned to be on the bench in the 4th quarter. Brown was fired before the next game. As a coach of LA you better play Kobe garbage minutes to help his PPG average or you are a gonna. If Kobe says "let me rest" the coach(es) look good, it looks like the coach cares about future games, but Kobe has been taking shots at the end of their few blowouts and when they are blown out he's still going hard for points. The coaches don't have an option of taking him out.
Kobe will need a rest before the all star game and he should, say play me five minutes in the all star game Because we had this long road trip just before the game and I need my legs. He will more than likely try to be the star of the Allstar game. And if I was the coach (Clippers right) I would play him 48 minutes. Kobe is the mule in the Aesop fable stories.

no one on the team respects the coach, or believes in the system and because of that they're beginning to lose faith and trust in each other. It's ugly.
Jerry needs to pull rank on Jimmy and get rid of MDA.
Dwight needs to work on his post-up game, which right now is abysmal.
Kobe needs to help Dwight get in better places to score easily and build up his confidence. And he needs to move without the ball on offense so he can get easier looks in better spots on the floor. He's regressed as a player as the season has gone on.
Nash needs to shoot more.
Gasol needs to regain his nuts.
MWP needs to stop shooting so many damn threes, or thinking he can ISO anytime he wants against anyone.
The team has no faith right now, no belief. They're in a rut and MDA is not the one to inspire them. His lack of answers is only driving them further ito the hole.

This is where Brian Shaw or Derek Fisher is big to a team morale. I remember Phil always said they were the guys to maintain the locker room. Even Lamar Odom had a way of being supportive for bench and starters.

See it's posts like this that make it hard to take anyone seriously on this site. The hyperbole and exaggeration just makes it hard to have a rational basketball discussion. Coach Brown's firing had more to do with him starting 1-4 and the offense and defense looking like garbage not benching Kobe. If there's 2 minutes left and the team is down by 10 there's no reason for any of the starters to be in the game. If what you say was actually true then Kobe wouldn't have been sitting in the 4th when the team blew out the Cavs. Kobe needs to rest but the team is garbage out there without him evidence by the +/- or just watching the game. It's not only Kobe but Steve Nash is being run into the ground too, so what's your explanation for that coach is scared of Nash firing him?
