View Full Version : Pau Gasol's Agent Asks For Meeting With Mitch To Ask For Trade
A rough translation of the Spanish article:
The most negative situation since Pau Gasol 's NBA player has reached a point of no return in the Lakers, at least while Mike D'Antoni is the coach, and that seems guaranteed until end of season. Gasol's professional relationship coach and has been a pulse from the first matches of D'Antoni on the bench, in parentheses liar dinner at Petros Restaurant in Manhattan Beach last December 19.
If we go by the latest developments Mike D'Antoni has lost the plot, if it came to South California with them in hand. A coach who puts a player, whoever he is, to substitute in a match holder and substitute the following in the third, within five days without medical advice through no defense, justification, authority or conviction . A D'Antoni was signed him to run a team with four untouchables totaling $ 75 million salary this season. First tried to play a player of 2.13 m. 32 years tall and seven meters from the hoop. Look situations Gasol shot in the final season of Phil Jackson and compare:
http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/g/gasolpa01/shooting/2011/
The decision to sit home to one of the four untouchables, to give discreet plan to play 24 minutes per game, is to waste the excess capital invested. D'Antoni has launched the cracking of the substitution of Gasol in Chicago because he knew after the defeat in Toronto to the situation and the results could get worse in the next twelve games. Nine of them are away from home and many rivals before class. D'Antoni has realized that it is not able to get more with what you have. He knows that his system is not flexible or adaptable to the two towers and laying Gasol wants to accelerate the handover process to see if a four or three and a half open (type Rudy Gay , Josh Smith ..) and at least one reinforcement perimeter can be attached to the playoffs carriage and thus ensured the start of next season on the bench.
Until a week ago Pau Gasol was committed, staying in encabezonado Lakers to overcome the situation. When he heard the Monday morning of his anger was multiplied substitution and approaches extent to which dragged on for days and his agent Arn Tellem , who has requested an interview with General Manager Mitch Kupchak . There is one month to the transfer deadline but time is running fast to the Lakers , their classification and because with every game, every decision and every press conference coach Pau Gasol can lose a potential economic value transfer and increase the difficulty for the same. And that is an incalculable injury to a franchise that lost the oremus in its calculations of the last two years.

Rudy Gay or Josh Smith would be a better fit.
Send Nash with for a PG like Teague or something. Unfortunate but both twin towers will be gone.
Let's see if 34 year old Kobe can win a ring with an athletic wing man alone as his second option, no offensive low post presence ala MJ at 34 in 1997.

Gasol is not a bench player. There's no NBA team that would use him as a 6th man. It seems logical that he would want a different situation. In LA hes starting to be an afterthought. There are many teams were he could be productive and be a main part of a winning situation.

Ok this creates two new betting opportunities:
1. Who will they trade Gasol for?
and
2. How long before Lakers fans start blaming "new Gasol" for their problems?

Well, you knew this was coming. He recently said he won't be a permanent bench guy and D'Antoni follows up by making him the permanent 6th man.
I'd consider taking him for Butler & Odom if he agrees to be the 7th man in a Clippers uniform though :oldlol:

A trade needs to happen.
You can't start Gasol over Howard as it would be not caring about defense and the future, at the same you can't start Gasol at the 4 in 2013 NBA, at least not with his current injuries. He can't play defense at that position and it's as simple as that.
He either has to go or come on off the bench, it's unfortunate but it's the only logical choice.

I dont disagree.
Gasol and the Lakers need a fresh start each. They both need to move on to situations where they dont have to deal with each others baggage. Unfortunately it will be difficult to get a good return in a trade. The same goes for Howard, assuming that he eventually wants out, you simply wont be able to make a trade that is fair to both situations.
The Lakers are pretty much screwed no matter how you look at it. Its going to get even worse before its possible to get better.

The Heat is on this I bet.
I think he may still have 2-3 more productive seasons.
Imagine he and Bron on a PNR?
The Heat's main issues are defensively vs big men, Pau isn't as bad as he's been with the Lakers. Part of the reason the Lakers' bigs have trouble is due to their back court not keeping their men on check. Pau is also playing discouraged which happens to players when they lose motivation. A new fire will be lit under Pau and he won't be as bad defensively.
Make no mistake about it, he IS the most skilled big in the league, and has been for years. Shit, just last year he was in talks as being THE best center in the L. I doubt that he's declined that dramatically in that short a time without a major injury. We just saw flashes of how good he still can be vs Tdot.

Well either Howard or Gasol has to be traded, it's clear they don't work together on the court at this point in time.
I think you're right he wants Gasol traded, good someone finally pulled the strings to make it happen, it should have been done not long after the failed Paul trade, things where never the same after that.

It's too bad because Pau was great for LA, and still can be much better than he has been, but it's clear that he doesn't belong on this team anymore. He's 32, and has been the most underutilized player on the Lakers, and clearly he's unhappy about it. And I don't blame him. Things have been going downhill for Pau in LA the last few years, and I think a trade would benefit both sides at this point.

Dwight Howard to Atlanta for Al Horford, Anthony Morrow (expirer), Johan Petro (expirer).
Horford plays power forward, and Morrow is a shooter to help spread the floor. Petro is a throw-in for salary purposes.
The Hawks get Smith and Howard at the bigs, and even if Howard bolts, that still leaves a huge amount of cap space to rebuild the entire roster.

And where are the Hawks going to sign a better free agent than Howard? Here's a hint they won't sign won't. Yes Teague can come off the bench for Nash this season since Nash needs to cut his minutes and can start next season. Who cares about his extension? Lakers will have capspace in 2014 and can sign a max contract. Nash, Hordford and Teague are attractive pieces for a potential prospect.

Any trade could benefit them right now and you know that no team will trade for Morris/Meeks/Duhon/Ebanks. Kobe, Dwight, Nash or Gasol have to be in the mix somehow to dump and improve the bench.
Everyone thinks Gasol first, right? Well, first his trade value right now is pretty damn low. Big contract and slowly declining? No one is making a big trade for him.
Second, Kobe and Howard are not getting along, so **** Howard as the Lakers future superstar. Howard right now, despite his play, still has 5x the trade value of Gasol, so the Lakers can get much more from him.
I'd much rather keep a core of Kobe/Nash/Gasol plus good role players rather than Kobe/Nash/Howard plus scrubs.
Anyone who thinks the Lakers will trade Kobe is crazy. He's playing bad and it's the best move for the team, but it's actually not the best move in terms of money. Bean still brings in cash. Plus, LA would implode.
