Hornets changing name to Pelicans. New Pelicans logo revealed

New Orleans Hornets Owner Tom Benson announced today that at the conclusion of the 2012-13 season, the name of the team will become the New Orleans Pelicans. A name that will represent the culture and resolve of the Gulf Coast region while also symbolizing Louisiana’s most pressing initiative of coastal restoration and wildlife conservation. Benson introduced the team’s new logos, as well as color scheme, during the announcement.

Just look at the stupid thing.

The writing is so far off center and not in a way that makes it look dynamic. It just looks like a dude with MS Paint didn't want to correct it and move it to the right. Not to mention it literally has nothing to do with Thunder at all.

Techincally, that symbol is much older. The Nazi's borrowed it from older civ's.

Yup except the team announced in march last year they agreed to keep the team in New Orleans until at least 2024 with no escape clause. Oh yeah, also, the Benson family owns the Hornets now. They will definetly move the team after 2024.

If the pelicans are willing to transfer the history and records from NOLA to Charlotte as well, then we can finally get to retiring some numbers in the queen city.
