Melo doesn't have Westbrook therefore he can shoot all he wants.
I only watched the last 7 minutes of the game so I couldn't tell you if he was being aggressive enough in order to draw fouls. Are the Knicks like 8-0 when Melo scores 40? geez.

Considering Melo hit like 10 threes obviously he wasn't l iving in the paint but he's a significantly more physical player than KD who draws most of his fouls on jumpers anyways. 3 free throws would probably be KD's career low. Wind blows, KD falls down. Then he grabs a player around the neck and gets away with it after being humiliated. Gotta love the guy.

James Hardens fouls are more inexplicable. He ran into every Nets player last night and heaved his arms in the air like he just took a bullet to the chest. He has 500 free throw attempts this season. It's egregious. I hate phonies like him.

I keep saying this...Melo gets the least respect out of any superstar in the league. He gets hacked like no other, and he's never given the same leeway that others like KD and LBJ have. Dude slams the ball out of frustration/pain because he got eye-gouged and refs T him up... :facepalm

Please see Dwight Howard. ;) Dwight gets treated like a rookie journeyman by the refs. The guy gets called for a foul for walking on the court.
And on the flip side of the spectrum is LeRef and dwhistle, who've built their careers on getting ref help. Far more than Durant could ever hope for.

Eh Lebron and Wade are both elite slashers and insanely powerful. They get fouled attacking, not shooting jumpers as much. Dwight gets TONS of free throws from yelling AYYYYYE which is BS but he does legitimately get hacked. KD is the only superstar who doesn't get hacked yet regularly shoots 15 plus free throws.

I didn't do this just to get Durant in here, but I used BBR game finder and made the FTA cut-off five instead of three since that's kind of arbitrary. Tonight makes the third time Carmelo has scored 40+ on 5 or fewer FT attempts. Durant has done it once. So coming into tonight Carmelo had a 2-1 lead in this very specific stat, bit of trivia, whatever you want to call it. Carmelo has also been in the league four more years than Durant.

I'd say the opposite, quite easily. His FT's are explicable. He usually gets fouled.
Yes, he also does flop and it's a shame, but most of his FT's are legit. And at least you CAN defend him. You're not allowed to defend Durant. Even if it's a block on the ball, with there clearly being space between the bodies. It's ridiculous.

Not that this necessarily helps Durant's argument, but he also has 26 career 40-point games to Carmelo's 24. In 8 of his 40 point games, Durant has attempted 10 or fewer FT's and 5 others with 11 or fewer; and in 9 of Carmelo's 40-point games he's attempted 10 or fewer FT's and 1 other with 11 or fewer. KD's an awesome player but don't group Melo in w/ him in terms of ref treatment. KD is on a whole other level when it comes to getting awarded FTs... and sure maybe you're right but I'll stand by my statement that #7 on the Knicks gets less respect than #6 on the Heat or #35 on the Thunder etc.

Howard is the most disrespected. Howard has, for the most part, not been one to dish out, even in retaliation (that's changing). He gets called for absolutely everything, despite the fact that he's getting killed.
Kevin Martin at least creates some illusion of a hack or gets cheap calls. He's crafty. Durant doesn't do that. There are just a lot of bad calls he gets. It's impossible to defend him if they're going to officiate him this way.

Lebron is also responsible for a lot of offensive fouls that he doesn't get called for. So I feel little sympathy for him. Historically, he hasn't been gipped by the refs.

Howard gets his foul calls. He's also called when he fouls people. I don't call that getting disrespected, I call that reality. That's in keeping with the rest of the league. Not everyone is going to get Lebron treatment where they refuse to call anything on you.

What are you talking about? If its any superstar in the league who gets the least respect in that aspect its Lebron... he used to get respect there years ago, but nowadays it is the biggest opposite believe it or not....
Durant averages ~9 FTA
Carmelo averages ~8 FTA
Lebron averages ~6 FTA... thats by far his lowest since his god damn rookie year where he also averaged 6 FTA...
He is still attacking the rim and everything, its just that he is not getting those shooting calls anymore... those fouls Durant & Carmelo get right now... i have no idea what is going on, i think its because of Lebrons strength or something and he seems to not sell (flop) it so well i guess... neither does he like to do the "fake & jump into defender" thing like so many superstars cant wait to do....
Lebron doesn't get alot of calls going to the rim, but the refs protect him as a defender. He is never in foul trouble, whereas Melo doesn't get calls on either side.

Sorry can you explain why they call a foul on lebron.Lebron has never been a foul prone player.Did you even watch him.Unlike most people he never gets that reachin fouls. He doesnt go for shot fakes. Most of his blocks are clean because he rarely tries to block straight up.His steals are not because of his reachins but he plays passing lanes better than almost anyone in the league.
Whats interesting is lebron is getting hacked most of the time and he doesnt get the calls he used to get during previous seasons.

I was responding to a dude who correctly said that Lebron gets away with many offensive fouls. Defense is a different issue - I think Howard gets away with quite a bit on defense as well. But unlike Lebron if he shoves a guy out the way he gets called for it.

BTW carmelo had only 3 attempts in paint. He converted one the other was a foul and he missed the last one.All of his shot attempts outside of these 3 were jumpshots.Dont expect a jumpshooter to shoot a lot of freebies

Hmm sorry i missed that part. You are probably right he is treated like shaq in that regard. He just bulls his way into the lane

I would trade Melo for Durant, but yeah Melo gets absolutely no respect. Some guy sticks his fingers on his eyes twice in 5 seconds and Melo gets a technical. :lol
WTF is that.. No Ny teams get any respect from the refs... I guess they will have to wait till the league wants them in the finals... :banghead:

This, cant believe how overrated lebrons defense is. No good aggressive defender is never in foul trouble it just doesn't happen. He could foul out of every game on offensive fouls alone.

He sorta does the same thing to players on other teams, too. Especially the good teams in the West. This is the same guy that kept calling Kenneth Faried a little bitch and punk during a Clippers/Nuggets game. I'm guessing he's irrationally hated on some Blazers players the last two nights in the game thread.

I'm not blindly hating on OKC. I'm annoyed of their FT shooting antics (Durant, Westbrook and Martin). No different than you shitting on Griffin for flopping last year and it didn't make me have a personal issue with you. Bottom line is.... It's annoying to see Durant regularly shoot 20 free throws when he gets very little contact normally.

Exactly. I don't dislike OKC for personal reasons. I'm just sick of the free throw shooting contests they have among themselves because refs are trigger happy in their favor. Not even the paint though man. Durant gets foul calls a TON on rebounds and pull up jumpers with zero or minimal contact. How many times a game does he get a foul called for him on supposedly illegal picks? Not the screening players fault that he weighs 150 and goes flying when he hits a screen.

On average? Maybe once every 3-5 games. You act like he's picking up 2 or 3 of these type fouls every game. :oldlol:

I'm not being literal when I say 20. You gotta admit it's bogus when WAY more physical players who absorb way more contact such as Griffin, Lebron and Melo shoot significantly less free throws.

That's why they don't get as many FT"s as Durant, though. They absorb the contact better than Durant due to the difference in their build and strength. You and the other haters can believe what you want, but Durant doesn't get nearly as many unwarranted fouls as many of you want to believe he gets. He just doesn't have a strong frame or solid base, so it's much more obvious when he drives in the lane and gets hit or bumped on a shot attempt.
I'm not saying every foul call in his favor is a good one, because he does get a few questionable calls a game; but it's not like he's getting 3 or 4 completely bogus trips to the FT line every single game.

Durant drives to the basket a lot. He's 6'11 with great handles, practically unstoppable when he does, hence why he gets fouled so often. Griffin flops too much so the refs don't award him as much in case he's flopping.. and Lebron.. really? :wtf: Melo I don't watch.. the Knicks are boring.

Durant plays on the perimeter more than all 3 players last I saw according to floor charts. In other words these guys all drive to the basket more if I'm remembering correctly. As for flops for Griffin, I agree flopping last year has given him a bad rep but that's not fair this year when he's not doing it hardly at all.

You're forgetting Durant is also a primary ball-handler for stretches Westbrook is off the court and late in games.. usually when the other team is normally in the bonus already. He picks up most of his fouls driving to the hole but also picks up silly fouls from defenders when they think they've lost him and he'll blow by them. He's just too versatile and players freak out when they're defending him and do silly things. Griffin doesn't have the ball in his hands nearly as much as KD.. he won't get nearly as many FTs as KD does. Plus KD is lankier.. he is affected more by contact which makes fouls appear more serious at times.

Typically bigmen that are dominant in the post shoot the most free throws, not ball dominant wings. Lebron has the ball in his hands more than Durant too. Griffin has led the NBA in points in the paint one year and been a combined .3 behind Dwight in the other two years for 2nd place. In other words he lives in the paint. The difference? Dwight shoots 10 ft's per game to Griffins' 6.

I'd say it's between Dwight and Melo. They are very hard to referee though. they are both physical players and usually physically mismatches for who ever is guarding them, and don't flop around. When they get whacked it's hard to call. Kinda like Shaq. But sometimes it gets ridiculous from the refs.
