It is great for news cos you can follow reporters and newsmakers. It's been really big for politics and sports.

it just looks like a instant msg device and all I see most of the time is people getting into trouble for dumb tweets.
I also dont get when the post stuff like #nonanny #respectmothers
is that like tagging a group or something.

It's quick news with no filler.
If you follow comedians, it's fast quips.
For sports, it's IMMEDIATE updates (like Rondo's injury) so you don't have to wait for an entire story to be written.
If you follow idiots, you get a lot of bad tweets. If you follow the right people, you get great, fast news that you can look up later if you're interested.
Hashtags can either be brief elaborations on brief posts or the Twitter version of a subject heading. Kobe here used two of them to get the message "we didn't hire a nanny" and "don't be a dick, respect mothers" across with a minimum of words. They are also great for jokes, as a hashtag can completely contradict the content of a Tweet, bringing delight to the reader.

it's like a pulse for what's going on in the world. Facebook is like a network that allows you to see what's going on with your friends. Twitter lets you see what people are talking about most.
if you search the hashtags you can see everyone who has ever mentioned that specific tag
I used to have it but dropped it, it's too time consuming/addicting, would rather spend that time elsewhere.

I see the hash tag thing on facebook and random articles now too. Twitter started a new verbal device.

Also, I predicted this was the main reason why he made a public twitter account.

I wish there was a way to narrow serach results down to people I should give a shit about instead of having to wade through hundreds of Tweets by other nobodies (like myself) to find something useful. For instance, when Westbrook rolled his ankle in the Olympics, and I did a search for Russell Westbrook, I had to sort through useless Tweet after useless Tweet to find what I was looking for.
Still, though, I've found about 30 people to follow for news, information, stats, etc. so I've really warmed up to Twitter over the last few months.

For famous people its a way to connect with fans. For reporters, its news. For nobodies, its an attempt to boost self esteem by seeing how many followers you can get. I have an account solely for fantasy sports news.

:lol So true. Sort of like those people on Facebook who have like 3000 friends.

I use it to get one liners from Colbert, or see the odd nude picture posted by Monica Bellucci. That's about it.

Kind of like a message board, but with millions of users sending thoughts instantly.
For example... as news is breaking, you can search for specific key words and get instantaneous updates from random people. Some may be posting images of this event, some may be there giving updates in real time, etc.
Hash tags are searchable and allow people from all over the world to connect through a common cause or topic.

prly dont have a nanny because the old nanny sued them, because of terrible working conditions and that vanessa was a b*tch
she allegedly made the nanny go through a pile of dog poop to retrieve a clothing price tag
