View Full Version : Pau Gasol is revealing himself as a very selfish player

Pau Gasol on sitting out late in game: "I'm a competitor and think I bring a lot to the table. It's something I don't like & don't appreciate."
This in a game we won? The coach didn't want him chasing Anderson on the 3pt line and it was the right move whether Pau likes it or not..

He wants to be on the court, that is not selfish at all.

Gasol will learn his place in the kobe system and either accept it or be sent to d-league as punishment

This is good. Get him hungry for minutes so he doesn't play like a biitch.

So Jamison is more equipped to defend? One could argue the game might have not gotten as close with Gasol in

It's embarrassing that a player who when traded to the Lakers was pivotal in leading them to 3 straight finals and 2 championships is unhappy about being on the bench?
No. What's embarrassing is D'Antoni's inability to utilize him effectively.

I did think he should be on the court rather than Jamison, but then Jamison made a clutch play and I forgot about it.

Jamison was in for metta according to MDA. because he didn't want play metta with his 1-8 fg%.
Earl was in for Pau.

"If you can guard and hit shots, you're going to play over the guy who can guard but was not hitting shots." - MDA on Jamison over Ron

terry, crawford odom etc.
he is benched cuz he sucks all season, so he needs to get better and prove the coach he worth shit.

Forget the past, Clark has been a MUCH better player than Pau THIS year and it's NOT even close. It'd be one thing if they benched him for a guy who wasn't producing but that's not the case.
The team is demonstrably better with each big having the post to themselves. Either he accepts it or asks for a trade. I am just tired of his bitching. If ****ing Manu can come off the bench for lesser players for the good of the team, it's not too much to ask Pau to do the same. Especially when we're starting a player who is just flat-out better right now!

Maybe he should have said "ship his ass out" to some randoms in a car park about trading one of his best young teammates for an over-the-hill vet instead.

Pau had by far the best +/- tonight at +21 tonight while ALL starters ranged from -3 to -13 (Howard). Pau didn't play at all in the 4th. He has every right to be upset.

Watch Gasol on the bench. Any other player who wasn't a media darling would be getting destroyed for that body language lol

Yep, and 7/7/7 with only 20 minutes played. D'antoni needs to take a page out of Phil Jackson's book and actually coach and manage egos in the NBA. Let's not get it twisted coaching is managing egos in this diva driven league.

Pau deserves better. I hope the Lakers trade him by the deadline.
Poor guy has to deal with Kobe's ego,D'Antoni's stupidity and Dwight's immaturity.
Just trade him somewhere where he can play like a great player he is.

Howard at the 4th had 0pts, 2 rebounds (total 4), 2 blocks, 0 assists and a -5. Why again was he in and Pau on the bench for the whole 4th?

"Good. If that was me I wouldn't be happy too. He's a competitor. If he said he was happy, then that would make me upset."
Kobe said that about Gasol tonight. Gasol is right, he should be closing out games.
But if Gasol is still sour about not starting, then he's an idiot. Clearly this system is working with him off the bench, so he should accept it.

That was then and this is now.
It's Pau's responsibility to adjust. He's a All Star level player and should have the talent to do so. He's past 30 years old. Jordan readjusted his game to be a jump shooter why couldn't Pau find some new niche within the team?

Everybody gets on D'Antoni's defensive strategies...so when he benches Pau in the 4th for Earl Clark ( who is playing out of his mind and can stay with Ryan Anderson around the 3 pt line) everybody's all up in arms?

Pau should've been in for Jamison imo

Can't he see that Earl Clark works better with Howard? And Pau on the bench actually makes our bench decent and they get to run the offense through him?

You meant the Howard system right?
The system were Howard plays like he always played, gets more touches, and were Kobe had to reinvent himself to please the alpha male (Howard).

I'm surprised Pau's actually been playing well since the move, but he's a sensitive guy. I'm afraid he'll sulk and stop playing as hard as he has lately.

Uh huh and when LA starts losing again then we get back on the coach right? I don't care what any of you say...that game was closer than it should have been last night in the 4th

Actually I see Pau having a meaner streak though. Its a shame he and Dwight can't play together effectively for long spurts. Many times Clark at PF looked better with Dwight.

This serious?
The guy wants to play. You'd prefer if he didn't want to be out there more?
Wow. Pau wanted to be and should have been in the game. You make opponents adjust to you, not the other way around.
D'antoni is a very weak minded coach. He has an incredibly talented team and he doesn't know how to use any of our strengths, he makes us adjust to opponents which is the wrong way to go about things.
Same thing with his system, which is why we're in such a big hole right now. He had the players adjust to his system, he didn't adjust his system to accomodate his players.
Both decisions he made are the sign of a bad coach. If Pau were a scrub, then sure, we adjust for Anderson. He's Pau Gasol, run the offense through Pau to punish them for leaving Anderson in the game. Make them adjust.

What relevance is other teams lineups if he's not on them? He's on the Lakers. He's a worst center than Howard and hasn't shown himself to be any better than Earl Clark at PF. :confusedshrug:
If he wants to start and play more minutes then stop being one of the least efficient bigs in the league and play some defense for a change.

@mcten: D'Antoni on Pau expressing his frustration about being benched: "I guess the 'all for one' lasted about 48 hours. Not bad"

Pau Gasol = Modern day jesus. He's suffering for idiot laker fans sins
