View Full Version : Ibby Jaaber Retires From Basketball Due To Alcohol Ads And Slutty Cheerleaders

Euroleague

Yes, this REALLY happened. American basketball player Ibby Jaaber announced that he is retiring from basketball because of alcohol ads being placed in games and with sponsorships of teams and also because of cheerleaders during games being dressed too scantily and being too provocative and slutty in their dance routines.

He says he cannot play in a sport that allows this kind of offensive behavior, as it is an insult to God and unjust in the eyes of the lord.................

And yes, I am dead serious, this is true. This guy was making big money playing basketball in Euroleague, and he gave it up for these reasons.

The guy is also in the PRIME of his career, and probably having a career season.

No mention of what OP has put, but he is leaving. Again, it does not state retirement, just that he won't play for another European team at this time. OP is exaggerating somewhat, but yeah...

How the hell am I exaggerating? He said he is retiring and he said those were the reasons why.

He was a classmate of mine at Elizabeth High School in New Jersey. I remember him moving up from Georgia sometime during my Sophomore/Junior year. Great kid... always humble. Nice to see somebody stand up for what they believe in.

What OP said is completely true. Its mostly because of alco ads and cheerleaders. He just had a child and it somehow changed his opinion.

Good for him, standing up for what you believe in often brings ridicule and mockery as seen in this thread. Wonder if some internet warriors would have the cojones to do the same.

its not cojones its just beliefs in his morals. I for one have no problem with alc ads as theyre a business and a thriving one and the women are for entertainment. Its all about personal beliefs and this guy stuck to his/her due to having a child and not wanting him raised like that. Very respectable.

What about all the money he is passing up from right now and what he could make in the next 3-4 years in Euroleague (we are talking millions)? Won't that have a negative effect on his child's future?

Or is his religion going to replace that?

If money makes a man strange, we gots to rearrange
So what makes the world go 'round

Standing up for what you believe in isn't good if what you believe in is stupid.

Alcohol isn't bad. Slutty dance routines are bad, but not that bad, and are such an infinitesimally small part of sporting events that I don't know anyone who notices them. I bet no pro sports cheerleader has led someone into sin in 20 years. It just doesn't register. They're not featured. And they're wearing more clothing than the average teenage girl at the mall.

Europe is more open minded about sexuality than the US is. The US has way too many religious zealots trying to control everything. Yes, the Euroleague cheerleaders are a bit overboard in how slutty they are (borderline strip shows), but it's just a fact that Europe is a lot more lax on that stuff than the US is.

"Ibrahim Jaaber always felt near to God, while basketball was only a way for him to earn his living, and that’s not something new, but it was proved with a really strange decision.

He had created a lot of years ago, a blog about his faith, and after his season in Milan (2010-11), he decided to have a sabbatical year to take part in a religious program in Mecca, as he revealed in his interview to Eurohoops.net.

He came back to basketball in October, signing a contract with Zalgiris, but four months later he left without any previous warning, because his religion opposed the advertisements of alcohol companies, which are sponsors of his team, and also because he felt offended by the cheerleaders."

I guess his religion also helps him not being a deceitful human being with no class whatsoever. Oh wait.

Guy also gave all the money he earned this year back to the team, cause his sudden leaving caused problems at PG spot.

I previously heard that he is wealthy, smart, honorable man.
