Not that I believe he is the best scorer, but you could make the arguement he is.

He has a great size to post up,a mid range game and can shoot the 3.

Personally I think Durrant is the best scorer.

So because he looks better scoring the ball than others, that makes him the best scorer in the league?

Carmelo Anthony has the worst winning percentage for any player in NBA history with at least 50 playoff games, according to ESPN.

Anthony's teams have a 16-36 (.308) record during his playoff career with the Nuggets and Knicks.

Denver reached the playoffs in all seven of Anthony's full seasons with the franchise, but were eliminated in the first round each year except for 2009 when they reached the Western Conference Finals.

Durant is the best scorer in the NBA, Melo isn't.

People like to say Melo is the best scorer because he has a ton of moves and is really fun to watch. His shot is also really pretty.

However, he's not as consistent as Durant and doesn't score as easily.

If he got bailed out by the refs the way Durant does, he'd easily shoot over 50% and score 30+.

Ping me when Durant scores 40 with only 3 free throws.

Melo can do everything on offense is why they say it. Solid footwork and he can post up, as well as drive with a solid mid range jumper. Durant is the best scorer I've ever seen though. Melo top 3 for sure

Blue&Orange
02-06-2013, 01:53 PM
I understand why people say that, Melo on a good day is a frigging beast, if he was more consistent and had better shot selection it would be a non discussion.

I'm still in doubt if the Knicks now being healthy will help him or not in trying to get that scoring title. There is no way he is going to shoot so much now, but having Amare shooting 10\10 on the post, felton and Chandler with the pikc&roll, having someone else (shumpert) being able to break defenses, gives Melo a lot more space to get easier shots and be more efficient.

Melo is the most versatile scorer is just a title people want to give him cause he is as average a superstar(he is just a star imo) can get, what other superlative can you give him?. Melo has never led the league in anything, never been much of a contender so far and has lost to other superstar led teams in postseason forever.

swag2011
02-06-2013, 04:19 PM
so true. never understood why Melo got this "best scorer in the NBA" title...

Post game? kobe got that
3 point shot? KD all day
footwork? kobe
mid range- could probably go to any of the 3
shooting in general- KD easily

i don't see how melo's can score in more ways than kobe, besides posting up bigger players i guess, and KD is more efficient than both kobe and melo

Some people confuse "best" and "possibly the most versatile". That's all. And when one is a fan of a certain team/player, they latch on to whatever possible leverage they may be able to grasp.

I believe Durant is the best scorer in the league right now and has been for at least the last 2 seasons, if not 3. He looks to be the most unstoppable when I watch them play, but I don't think it's a huge difference. Melo is the second best and is a really talented scorer himself. His post game is the best at his position, he's a very good ball-handler for his size, his footwork is excellent, has a very good second jump to get his own misses, he's very strong and he's now an excellent shooter from anywhere, either when he catches and shoots or shoots off the dribble. His one problem is that he doesn't finish well. He gets a lot of shots blocked and in general, has been really poor around the rim this year. But that would be less of an issue if he got the respect from refs that other superstars get. His numbers are still outstanding, and that's with his team relying on him so heavily. Teams are constantly either doubling Melo, or shading towards him. With the team getting healthy, he should have more help in the second half of the season, especially with Amare looking great and Felton back, but people forget that Amare missed the first 2 months, Felton missed a month, and Jr reverted back to his bad habits after a hot start.

Melo was NEVER the Best Scorer in the NBA he just hangs around the TOP 5 every year due to his Size and Talent.

One skill he lacks is Handles. He has 2 crossover moves that only works on ISO. Also shows great weakness of handles when double Team comes.

It has always been Kobe and then Durant once Kobe took a step back due to Father Time and Durant took 15 steps Forward due to his talent and Love of the game.

One of the year when LeBron was in Cavs I felt like he was the best Scorer at one point when he was Slimmer with quicker crossover and when he was not
psychologically scared of FG% and let the game come to him.

When Lebron was slimmer, his shooting wasn't nearly as good, and he was clearly less skilled overall so there really wasn't an argument for him being the best scorer overall back then.

Though, you could argue that Lebron was the best scorer in 2010 with Kobe's injuries, though I'd take the healthy Kobe of the first 2 months, or the playoffs after he got his knee drained purely as a scorer.

No doubt LeBron has gotten better as a player since Cavs days but IMO LeBron always had a good jumpshot long as he shoots a decent amount of shots to get him going during the game since he is more of a feel/streaky player when it comes to shooting.

When LeBron was slimmer he had a quicker step with smoother crossover then now which was more effective to be a scorer which he was for the Cavs. For the Heat he gained weight for Power which has made him a better post player and defender but not as effective when it comes to scoring since he has gotten slightly slower.

because he can score in every way possible. the most versatile scorer in the L

That's exactly right! In terms of scoring skillset, u could make a case that Melo has the greatest scoring skillset of ALL TIME! U got MJ, Kobe, Bird, Pierce, Gervin, Durant, Barry, etc., but Melo is literally very good to great at all facets of scoring in a 6'8 240-250 very physical package. If anything those 15 or more pounds he has on those guys makes the difference. Melo could bully many PF's scoring the rock if needed while ALSO being able to kill them with slashing, midrange, three ball, etc.

Scoring titles can be tricky. I think the key is being regarded as a true alpha dog level scorer who can put the foot on the gas and rack up the high scoring numbers. Once u are part of that fraternity, then it can be like picking straws on whose the best. U can actually make a case for Durant, Melo, and Kobe as the best scorers in the world. I think Melo's is the most unique due to his physicality along with the actual skillset as a combo.

Lebron had the quickness, the weight and an improved jumper in '09 and '10 with the Cavs, no way he was a better scorer before '09 and '10 than he was during those 2 years, or now for that matter.

He was streakier then, and exposed vs good defenses who made him a jump shooter, see the '07 Spurs and '08 Celtics series when he was shooting 35-36%.

Melo gets such little respect from the refs.

Dude gets hacked all the time and gets nothing. If he was shooting 10 ft's a game he would be number 1. I think him and Durant are pretty equal though.

Melo, Howard and Pekovic get nothing from the refs. I guess because they are so strong.

You better be careful. LeBron and Melo happen to be good friends. If he knew how much you were hating on his boy then your opportunity to give LBJ a rim job would go out the window. He'd be quite upset with you. You know you want the butthole.
