east looks better

for me, swingmen look best dunking, no offense to them, they are really exciting players, but imo, farried and bledsoe are clearly the bottom 2 dunkers, of the 6.

Bledsoe does 360's between the legs in warmup lines.. I wouldn't be so sure. Plus he has the Nate Robinson little guy factor in his favor. Also DeAndre Jordan got an invite and turned it down because he was pissed he wasn't even on the all star ballot.

James White and Ross are in it

But wtf is this East vs West thing...i hope that doesn't ruin it. We need to see White do his best dunks and the same goes for Ross.

I'd hate to see for instance, an East player do a basic dunk because at the end of the last round it's the East's turn and all they need to win is 6 points or whatever.

Finally some real good dunk contest potential with White, Green, and Bledsoe. Will be interesting to see what kind of dunk contest dunker Faried is. Evans was a pretty weak dunk contest winner, so it'll be interesting to see if he steps up his game with some better competition.

Has he completely fallen out of the rotation or has he been dealing with an injury for the past month? He looked like a solid scoring threat off the bench at the beginning of the season.

That's a shame, Deandre Jordan has CRAZY hops/athleticism (more fluid than Dwight/McGee IMO), and I bet he could win.

I agree. DJ was mainly hurt because the all star weekend is in his hometown. I doubt he expected to actually be an all star but to not even be on the ballot? That's messed up. Especially when far lesser players were on the ballot.

We've seen something similar before (Desmond Mason and Jason Richardson battled against one another pre-finals in the early '00's and it still ended up being fun).

Also, more news, if you guys didn't already know. According to a Fox Sports newscaster on Twitter:

Hakeem Olajuwon told me he will serve as a judge for the slam-dunk contest in Houston on All-Star Saturday Night.

To spell things out, that seems to lend credence to the return of true judges.

Some really good dunkers this year. Green, White should be insane, hopefully don't let us all down. Bledsoe has some crazy ups. Faried seems like a weird choice, crazy athletic but hasn't shown much creativity in game besides catching some crazy ally's. He's a passionate dude so I imagine he'll get up for contest which is really all you can ask for, not sure how it translates.

I guess it's easy to see now why Lebron wouldn't want to do it...i mean he'd definitely lose to James White (unless White can't jump anymore) and would probably lose to Gerald Green and Terrance Ross as well.

That'd be a huge hit to his superhuman status...to end up getting beat by three bench players who score about 9 points per game combined.

I just don't understand why they need to break it down into the East/West thing for it. Let the points tally up for the team for the whole night or whatever they're doing, but having the two conference winners in the final round is dumb.

Just keep it the two highest scores make the finals, if it's two East guys or two West guys who cares? It's not that serious.

Of course watch these rules will work out perfectly now that I'm bitching about them.

The contest is still technically individual, so yeah. East will easily earn a lot of points the Conference team for sure.

But another sad thing is that my boy Terrence Rose will have even less chance to qualify to the final round when there are already two proven show-dunkers in his "team". T-Ross should better bring his best right away.

This is stupid.

White and Green are both in the East.

Imagine if they had this in 1988. Jordan and Wilkins would be on the same team.Agreed, but at least there'll still be two opportunities for six different players to put on a show. Having Green and White in the same bracket could up the ante, forcing both of them to bring their double A game just to get into the finals. Or, one of them could end up being a disappointment (ex: Shannon Brown) while a westerner may bring the heat.

Either way, I agree. The simple way would be to just have one large pool like normal. The last time they had brackets was in '02 when Jason Richardson took out Desmond Mason because Richardson drew a Wilkins windmill on The Wheel and Mason got stuck with a Dr. J. cuff dunk.

I remember Lamarcus Aldridge said on First Take that Lebron is more in game dunker and would not have the creativity a Green or White would have.

Lets be honest he can jump high but he's not going to do what VC and Gerald green can do in the air with their flexibility.

I think James White is going to be incredible. he's 30 but that guy was so ridiculous and natural hops that he can still do free throw line in his sleep. I also think gerald green will be great too.

On the west, Im curious to see bledsoe

Lebron is not the type of a leaper (two foot) like VC or Green.... he is exactly like James White, distance dunker / one leg leaper (they jump much higher that way), thats the type of dunks he would be able to do....

Lebron does not have the hang time of a White or Green. Like hes the best player on the planet but he does not have their hang time.

I actually like the format but too bad the east is way stronger than the west (at least on paper) so the final round has bust potencial.

Solid judge selection too. I believe Gerald Green's claim, should be good.

I'm looking forward to this. Should be the best contest in a while.

IMPOSSIBLE.

LeBron is faster than Usain Bolt. That's just a fact.

I once saw him put a quarter on the top of the backboard and he came down with a 100 dollar bill and an omelet. Also a fact.

LeBron is actually a natural lefty, but has been using his right hand the entire time to give the rest of the NBA chance.

8 would be better but im glad they have 6 contestantsI'm glad to see the return of six as well. Ideally, I think I'd like to see three first round dunks (dropping the lowest score) so there could be some more room for risk taking, but I'm honestly just pleased to see six contestants and the return of a semi-normal format (minus the lame fan voting in the final).

I just watched a Clippers.com video and Bledsoe just did a freaking between the legs dunk off a bounce from a teammate. Dude is an underdog but will put up a fight.

Man, on the real. We need LeBron to do at least 1 dunk contest.

None of this, oh, im too pretty to be in it shit.

All the greats have. WE need to start a mass twitter attack on him. We need him in the dunk contest next year. Do the AS Game in South Beach if they want. Even let Dwade in if they want.

let James white in it. Russel Westbrook, and anyone else who can throw down some nasty jams.
dwade didn't make this year's all-star game?

What time is the first event?

It's pretty sad how little info there is about it..

I'm watching a stream now, will check league pass once it supposedly starts.
Just watched the stern interview.
