In the NFL some teams defer possession until the 2nd half. I've never seen NBA teams intentionally lose the tipoff

It's an extra possession so it matters...a tiny bit.

How is a extra possession? The team that dont get the tipoff will start with the ball in 2. and 3. quarter and the team that got the tipoff will have the ball in the 4. quarter.

DO IT MATTER ?!?! comone man ... i have say that one time i well say again jumpballtip is one the most important to basketball . team that win jumpballtip get a lot confidence that the other team center need a daiper . these confidence give to them momentum the whole game . yesterday maimi heat win very close game to brooklyn why ? there were 3 jumpballtip to these game and maimi heat win 2 them and give them very much confidence . maimi heat have a lot sucess in these playoff now that chris bosh have improve hes jumpballtip. wilt chamberlane is best of all times to the jumpballtip and he have score 100 POINT TO THE NBA records . because he have that much confidence

sometimes you hit sometimes shot in sometimes shot out, you win, you fall then you make more and miss

It doesn't but jump balls can be important so it's good practice.

Some teams in college just conceded the tip to Wilt at Kansas. Both because they knew they would lose...and to show they didnt really care. Id have liked seeing a team like the 04 pistons just let you have the ball first as a rule and go all out on D on the first play. Fans dont sit till the first stop. Just change it up.
