Charles Barkley yesterday on The Tonight Show:
"There's 4 legit title contenders! The Miami Heat, the Oklahoma City Thunder, San Antonio Spurs and the Memphis Grizzlies."
So he's including Grizzlies as legit contenders, but not the Clippers or Knicks. Discuss

Pretty much this, Grizzlies imo are a team thats most likely to physically wear you out during a long series so you would hope to avoid them. Losing Rudy was just a massive lose, I wonder if theres any way the Grizz could get Evan Turner for like Ed Davis and something else.

Altho its a death wish to be backed by Chuck, I dont disagree with his pickings. CP3 will take the clips to the second round tho (unless he gets reinjured).

NYK could easily get hot & win a title or atleast make the finals.
They have a similar build to the 11 Mavs which proved that a 3 point shooting team, with a defensive anchor holding down the middle combined with a superstar who's primarily a scorer could win a championship

They shared the ball much more than this NY team IMO.
If the Knicks won the title Barkely wouldn't call us contenders for the year we won it. I don't think including us is necessary but asking for Barkley to be anything even remotely logical featuring the Knicks isn't worth anyone's time.

Yeah, I don't understand his hate for the Knicks.
I wonder why he left out the Clippers.
The Clips w/ CP3 are incredible, and as far as I know, Chuck doesn't hate the Clippers or anyone on that team.

I agree with him.. though I probably would have said 3 and left off Memphis.
However in his defense, Memphis has the type of game centered around 2 elite big men that can go far in the playoffs. The Clipps? Mehh....I don't think Griffin and Jordan are ready yet to take out SAS or OKC.
As for the Knicks.. if Rose doesn't come back that helps them, but Chicago still has their number and LBJ is just on a different level from the rest of the league and may open that gap even more in the playoffs... that is why Chuck only listed one team from the East.

Enough of the contenders bullsh!t. Anyone who makes the playoffs is realistically a contender. Sure there are the elite teams that have very high chances in reaching the finals but anything can happen in a playoff series. If we go by this new logic that only miami and okc are contenders whats the point in the entire season, just have a finals in november since nobody else seems to have a chance.

You play the games to bring in ratings and revenue, but yes Miami is a lock for the Finals. The West is a little more wide open.
And no.. not anything can happen in the playoffs.. in a 5 games series upset were more likely, but they got rid of those for a reason.

I think he's remarkably wrong on the Clippers. They will stay the 3rd seed.
And his issues with them in the halfcourt...he should have issues with Miami in the halfcourt. The Heat have the best player, but the Clippers have a top 5 player, who excels at running these grind-out pick n' rolls. The Clippers will do very well in the half-court. It'd be more obvious if Del Negro was doing a better job. He's an issue and he needs to grow as the season progresses and the playoffs approach. But the Clippers are legit legit.

Oh yeah right i forgot the 8th seeded warriors sent the first place mavericks packing in the first round a few years ago, i also dont remember the 8th seeded knicks being the first and only 8th seed to reach the finals where is my memory. Yeah and the 1 seeded spurs who were a " lock" for the finals didnt loose to 8th seed Memphis did they?

I thought the Clippers were invincible in December, but I've seen a ton of their flaws exposed during the last month, especially with their weird reliance on Jamal. Plus Vinny is a horrible coach, so I'm guessing he'd find a way to fvck things up when games mattered.
I have no idea if the Knicks can make it to the finals this season. They have a ton of geezers on that team, so there's always a chance.

He used to have issues with the Heat in the half court, but their issues don't matter that much since they have LeBron, Wade, and Bosh. Their talent overcome that and that's why they went to the finals twice in a row.
He also used to have issues with the Thunder half court, but then they beat the Spurs last year. The Clips and the Knicks would have to prove how good they are in the playoffs. But it's hard to see anyone beating Miami in the east.
I don't consider Memphis really contenders because I don't really see them beating the Thunder, Spurs, or the Clips at this time. They might not beat the Warriors either.

Ask GOBB and CF86 how I'm doing with my bets so far.
And I'm not saying I know anything you aren't able to see for yourself. Like I said, make a wager with me if you think anyone but Miami (doesn't even have to be NY) is getting out of the East. LBJ will not let it happen.. unless something happens to him.
i'm doubting san antonio despite their current regular season dominance.
legs will be crucial in the playoffs, and those guys are just too old...

Whatever dude heat may or may not make it to the finals all im saying is anything can happen its not impossible as you make it seem to be. Why would he ? The HEat have become a very good Halfcourt team especially when Lebron gets in the post and a slew of 3 point shooters also they have already won a "Ship" so they have proven to do it. :confusedshrug:

Tough to say actually. At best the Nets who are struggling bad as of late may win 43 ish games which would only be 2 over what I capped them at. If Deron is out longer it may be 41 or less.

At best they may win 43 games?
They are on pace for 47 and may pull something off at the trade deadline.
Meanwhile D.Will being out will help us short term and long term
If you're feeling good about the bet, want to double(ish) it...from an avatar for the playoffs, to an avatar all summer?

What's the point of doubling it when the original bet is adequate? Nets have been a disappointment, are struggling bad lately and I still have a solid shot at winning.

A disappointment to whom?
You said they would be a .500 team ("40 realistic, 42 max"), yet they are on pace for 48 wins. I said 45-50 wins and most "experts" had them around 45 wins and 5th in the East. I'd say they are playing right around what was expected.
It's year 1 in Brooklyn.. took the Knicks 2 years to get their stuff together.
Meanwhile despite D.Will playing as poorly as he has, JJ being as unimpressive as he has, G.Wallace playing no where near his contract and our PF position the weakest in the league, we're still a home court team in the East with wins over OKC, Clippers, Indy twice, NY twice, Boston twice and only 2 losses to sub .500 teams all season.
I don't get why you feel the need to be so stubborn. Would it really kill you to admit the Nets are better than you thought they would be? Man up, you'll look like the bigger man now than when you'll be whining about the avatar I give you. I'd even take it easier on your avatar and respect you more.
People need to listen to me... told you all the Sixers were overrated and we could expect Bynum to miss time, said BK was a 45-50 win team (and would finish behind NY) and I also predicted the Clippers as the 3rd best team in the West.

When you made this post only 2 Knicks fans had bitched about Barkley not including them. Niko didn't give a shit about it so he's not included. The 3rd person who commented on it was a Lakers fan so stop being a f@ggot and deal with the fact that your shitty Nets squad will always be second fiddle to the Knicks.
In reference to the context of the OP the Grizzlies should be taken out of the top four and the Bulls and/or Pacers should be added, however I don't think Miami will lose in the EC playoffs.

Have faith.. you guys only have 1 less loss than the Clippers and I do think Prince will be more help in the playoffs with his experience. Your defense, half court game and pound it inside style will be very hard for most teams to match up with in the playoffs. I also think the Grizz have a chip on their shoulder which could help.
