I've been a Heat fan since the days of ZO and Hardaway. Having LeBron come join the Heat has created a lot of bandwagoners, haters, and dick riders. That being said I want to know what ISH thinks of the GOAT picking Kobe over LeBron. This should be fun

Read the article guys. He didn't pick Kobe as the better player. He picked him solely based on the ring count. Jordan picked the most successful player.

Jordan, according to Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel, said he views the Lakers star guard as the more successful player to date when compared to the Miami Heat All-Star.

"If you had to pick between the two, that would be a tough choice," said Jordan, "but five beats one every time I look at it."

Do people not read here?

Michael Jordan still picks Kobe Bryant over LeBron James.

Bryant has five titles with the Lakers with seven trips to the NBA Finals. James has one championship with three finals' appearances.

"And not that he won't get five," continued Jordan on James. "He may get more than that, but five is bigger than one."

NBA TV will air a special on the Chicago Bulls Hall-of-Famer in honor of Jordan's 50th birthday. Jordan currently owns the Charlotte Bobcats.

It's a short ass article. If you have even a 3rd grade reading level, this article shouldn't take more than 1 minute to read.

Speaking of MJ as a player evaluator, wouldn't this qualify as tampering considering he is affiliated with a team and is commenting on players currently under contract?

Apparently, those rules are pretty strict - I remember listening to a radio interview with Rockets GM Daryl Morey and he refused to answer seemingly innocent questions like "Name an underrated player in this league" because he didn't want to get in trouble.

MJ wasn't speaking to the value of either player. That would be tampering. He said who in his opinion has had more success so far.

James' response at shootaround Thursday, as the Heat prepare for their showdown with the Thunder:

"It doesn't matter to me. If you take Kobe one and I go second, it doesn't matter. I don't get too involved in what guys say about me or if you take Kobe or if you take LeBron. As long as I'm on the floor and I make plays for my teammates, I don't do what I do for other people's approval."

that's a really STUPID question because anyone, even myself as a huge kobe stan would take lebron today... why wouldn't you take a guy in his prime?

and everybody bringing up robert horry is HILARIOUS because you're still saying MJ>Kobe>Lebron right? You are basically saying robert horry contributed to those rings on the same level as mj did to his, kobe did to his, and lebron did to his...

I'm not going to argue that Kobe is a better passer or rebounder, because he isn't. But Kobe from 05' to 07' was a better scorer than LeBron ever will be or has. If you deny this you're either:
1.) too young (most likely)
2.) blatant kobe hater/bron bron dick rider

i'll never understand why Kobe couldn't have learned to pass earlier in his career than now. i know he's capable and probably has always been capable but its just bball IQ to pass it for easy baskets when everyone is so focused on you. MJ figured it out way earlier than Kobe, and to think Kobe just got it this late in his career is just pitiful. he's a beast this year but really stupid way too many games throughout his previous career to not hold it against him. they wouldn't have ever needed nash if Kobe played like this before.

the ring argument has so much to do with luck its lame when people play it so hard.

I'm disappointed in Jordan's logic. Perhaps he's talking about their career and with the mindset that nothing else but rings matters. If so that's a good mentality to have, but still doesn't mean that the player with more championship is better than the more dominant player, especially when that other player has been in the league much longer. This interview also probably happened before Lebron's stretch. But either Jordan believes that championships are everything, but he should look at it who he would pick to start a franchise.

MJ sounds kindof like a Kobetard, he refuses to call Lebron better than Kobe, since forever... the only compliment he ever gave to Lebron was the likes of: "He is good"... You really think so MJ?

People can even ask MJ: "Who do you think is playing better NOW, not 10 years ago, as in it has nothing to do with career accomplishments".... Jordan would still go: [I]"Kobe, 5 is more than 1"... Kobe can retire he would probably still "pick" him... 5 rings...

By his own reasoning, that means:

1. Bill Russell clearly gets the nod over Jordan himself. Eleven is bigger than six....

2. Jordan was not playing better than Bird or Magic in 1991.... because he had only 1 ring and Magic/Bird had many more....

Come on MJ......

Isnt Kobe a top 10 guard of all time? That i consider is very true and is a compliment.... why is it back-handed just because he didnt want to categorise Kobe (and himself) more thoroughly?

Certainly a compliment it seems he wouldnt dare express upon Lebron even though he is a top 10 SF of all time....

Jordan has said according to Kobe people that Kobe is the only one that has put in the work to be compared to him, he has called Kobe the best in the league even when Lebron was clear MVP. And whenever someone ask Jordan is he's the greatest of all time he talks about all the great players there have been, doesn't want to disrespect them. So Jordan is not going to say Kobe is a top 5 guard of all time and in so saying he's number 1, and discounting people like Magic, Stockton and other point guards, since you people forget that it was guards that they were talking about and not just shooting guards.

Top 10 means just that. It encompasses 1-10. It says nothing about position. Any ranking within that range is top 10.

I think it's perfectly fine to say Kobe is a top 5 guard but I also think it's legit to ague that he's top 10 and that the top 5 is debatable. I would personally put him over a guy like Jerry West, but I can understand why someone would hesitate to do so.

Who ever said MJ made great decisions as a gm?

horry> jordan or kobe

7 > 6 or 5

:applause: lol

Horry was a role player. Winning can only be a criteria for elite players, players who lead their respective teams with their play and put their team mates into position to excel Horry, although a good role player, cannot be compared to the all-time greats like Jordan and Kobe. Horry could only shine and win when elite players he played with put him into a position to do so. A Robert Horry's can't put a team on his back and put his teammates in a position to win like a Jordan or a Kobe caliber player.

What? MJ just said last year that the top 2 players ever are him and Kobe. He puts himself top all time above everyone who came before him and after him. He's got no problem putting himself above anyone.

When the hell was this? I've never heard Jordan say in the media that he was better then any of the greatest players much less proclaim himself the GOAT. And I've definitely never heard him say Kobe was 2nd.

Man u guys dont listen for shit

Im on my phone but damn looking at the interview, he states thats a tough one, then states Kevin Durant...they laugh.... he states in ref to pure dominance right now Lebron James, he then looks at careers and starts talking about Kobe at age 34 logging tons of minutes trying to guard opposing point guards says thats insane...he's cursed like me...but last time I checked 5 is greater than 1. He is then asked about Durant and he said hes coming up on those guys through the back door

He knows Lebron is better right now, but he also knows Kobe isnt in his prime and thinks its probably unfair to compare the two at this stage...one guy in his prime the other on his downside

This....

- He didn't say Kobe is better right now......he also said Lebron is dominating basketball more then anyone ....

- MJ meant Kobe > Lebron as a basketball player ( based on Kobe bieng the greater Champion/winner)

For the Basketball illiterate: HE(MJ) is comparing the 2 greatest players/superstars of the past decade.....

- not role players ( cough Horry).... or Highschools kids coming into the NBA ( cough Brown or AM)...but 2 proven elite basketball players.

- seriously.....the people still using "Horry" or " Cousy" arguements are F'ing stupid.

- Not sure what all the confusion is about....lots of Rustled Kobe haters gettin thier Jimmies on....

- Kobe is the greater Champion.....MJ values Winning over everything....that'
s what made him.

^^ lol at kobe is the greater champion. My ass.

Give Lebron or Wade a PRIME Shaq for 8 years and either one of them win 5 rings, not just 3 in 8 years.

Give Lebron a dominant frontcourt of Odom/Bynum/Gasol when they were younger and obviously much better than they are now (and 3 bigs who can all pass the ball extremely well, which is huge and often overlooked), in the pathetic western conference that had crappy frontcourts, and Lebron has 8 rings now, not just 5.

What happened when OKC brought in Perkins to add to Ikaka and Durant up front to match the Lakers frontcourt ???, and what happened when Dallas brought in Chandler to add to Dirk up front matching the Lakers frontcourt advantage in the West ?

What happened was Kobe was exposed as the fraud he always was. Kobe and the lakers got trounced 8 games to one in those 2 series vs OKC and Dallas with early playoff exits. Without a dominant frontcourt that could breeze through the western playoffs Kobe is (and was) useless. Nobody in the west was fearful of Kobe the stringbean Bryant and his chucking and stupid play. They were fearful of the lakers frontcourt length and ability.

MJ is just trying desperately to make a legacy of rings, for his own benefit, not anyone else. As Miller said last night, MJ's comments are hogwash because he knows Lebron is staring over his shoulder as the GOAT.

- who knows?.....Russell has a legimitate case though...

- But Russell dominated 30 years before MJ came into the NBA....really hard to compare 30 year diffrence and much diffrent style of game.

- Lebron and Kobe have overlapping careers.....and play in a much similar era.

- Russell was named the GOAT in 1980....and has teh Finals MVP named after him.

- that would have never happened if he choked in the Finals every year

In the quote he says Kobe has had the more successful career, not that he's better. How is that not undeniable? And that should be the case given Kobe has had twice as long of a career. People are making something out of nothing.

UMAD...:lol

What happened when Lebron got DPOY Ben Wallace?....with an all star backcourt teammate?....still got merked.....

what happened when Lebron Joined Prime wade and Prime Bosh......still got merked.

Lebron had to become a better player and better shooter/post player .....he didn't have those same skillset early in his career ( like Kobe did).....

I actually think MJ is set against LeBron. From memory I've never really heard him say anything overly positive about the guy. Right now it feels like he has to begrudgingly acknowledge LeBron's ability.

Jordan has rarely came out and said anything about any of the players after him.

- MJ never said anything about careers...

- He said Kobe because...Kobe's skillset is proven to be more effective at winning then Lebrons.

- Jordan obviosly puts way more into winning vs marginal Stats differences...

- Yes Kobe has played longer.....but he is still going.....and his skillset is Proven Time and Time again

If you ask Jordan in an interview and not where he ranks, he'll say top 10 guard of all time, because he's always talking about not being disrespectful to other all time great guards. And remember, he wasn't talking about just shooting guards.

:oldlol: I'm a huge Jordan fan and hate Kobe, but that was definitely a slight. And from what I remember, he didn't even say Kobe was a top 10 guard of all-time. I think he said Kobe is "probably" a top 10 guard of all-time. :oldlol:

From the point of view that the media takes, I would assume that they would make a case for at least arguably Jordan, Magic, West, and Oscar. Then maybe just to be nice, he'd consider some of the lesser guards like Isiah, Cousy, etc. So maybe him saying top 10 instead of top 5 is explainable and not just him being a dick about it. But the fact that he couldn't even emphatically say he's top 10 comes across clearly as a slight.

He's never admitted it, but I guarantee that Jordan cringes whenever people compare Kobe's ring count to Jordan's since 3 of them came with Shaq and since Kobe's playoff performances don't really compare. He probably says to himself that if he had had Shaq for 8 years he probably would've broken Russell's record :oldlol:

He didn't say anything like that unless you're referring to something else. He referred to Kobe's attitude which is based on their career. The Inside Crew basically said the same thing afterwards.

Think about it for 1 second....

- Ahmad Rashad didn't ask....who's career is better?......that is stupid.

- He asked ..."Kobe or Lebron?".....( who is the better player?....better player at thier absolute best?)

- at thier best.....Both are Champions, Both can take over games and impose thier will.....Kobe's skillset has done it more and more often.....

that's why MJ said Kobe....of course Kobe's career is better....he played longer,

Yes, but then he referred to their championships. If they were just talking about them at their best, the ring count is irrelevant. He wasn't talking about right now or both at their best.

It was obviously not a very specified question. But if he's referring to ring count, then career is obviously what he's referring to. He even said that doesn't mean Lebron can't get more.

I don't know if you're familiar with me as a poster or anything but I'm not known for just fabricating stuff. I can't find it right away because google search is now flooded with the "LeBron vs Kobe" Jordan comments but maybe you can find it. You remember something earlier in this season (or maybe end of last season) when Jordan said something along the lines of "It's me and Kobe and then everybody else"

I don't know if I remember it wrongly but I'm pretty sure my mind wouldn't trick me this badly. Let me know if you can find it.

i'll never understand why Kobe couldn't have learned to pass earlier in his career than now. i know he's capable and probably has always been capable but its just bball IQ to pass it for easy baskets when everyone is so focused on you.

Kobes been averaging the same amount of assists for 12 years. Whats with this shit about just learning now?
