It's about damn time. Finally, Oscar Schmidt who holds the world's all time record for most points scored at 49,737 was elected into the Basketball Hall of Fame.

Some of Schmidt's most important records include:

The all time world record for the most points scored: 49,737

The all time world record for the most 3 pointers made: 4,863

The all time record for the most points scored at the FIBA World Cup: 843

The all time record for the most points scored at the Olympics: 1,024

In addition to that, he won some nice team titles as well:

3 times won the South American championship with Brazil.

Won the Pan American games once with Brazil.

And he also won at club level, the South American Club Championship once and the World Club Championship once. So unlike NBA "world champions", he actually was a REAL world champion.

Anyway, it's about damn time he was elected. Now they have to get Nikos Galis elected, as it's also a travesty of justice that he has not been elected yet.

These are the two greatest scorers in the history of international basketball (Schmidt and Galis).

Finally, Schmidt also holds the record for the greatest quote ever made by any basketball player -

When asked why some people criticized him and said he didn't play defense and didn't pass, and only looked to score, Schmidt replied by saying,

"Some people play the piano, and some people move the piano."

He's way better than Okur. One of the greatest players to never play in the NBA.

I saw him play in the Olympics a couple of times and he pretty much scored at will against every team he played, including the U.S.

I know you guys are just trolling EuroLeague, but Oscar deserves the praise.

His duels with Drazen Petrovic were legendary. Dude was a monster scorer and could have been an NBA all star.

Congrats, Oscar!!!

EDIT: Oscar scored 46 points to lead Brazil to the Pan American Games gold medal over a Team USA with the likes of David Robinson, Rex Chapman, Dan Majerle and Danny Manning.

if kevin durant played in oscar schmidt's league, durant would probably end up with over 100,000 career points.

just saying... :lol

Very crafty player, could score at will. The Schmidt who played the Dream Team was already past his best.

Kevin Durant played in the same two competitions Schmidt played in. FIBA World Cup and the Olympics. Durant averaged considerably LESS points than Schmidt in both tournaments.
