Who was/is the most athletic player ever?
He doesn't have to be a superstar or a star. Include stars, role players, scrubs, bench warmers, etc. Just asking who you think is/was the most athletic player ever.

Really tough to say, but I think David Robinson is up there.
So are so many others. Hell little Nate and Spud could get up there.

If we disregard that Carl Lewis was drafted by the Bulls.....and dont grade on a curve to allow the Shaqs, Drobs, Wilts, and Lebrons to get extra credit due to their size...anyone care to explain how it isnt Nate Robinson?
I bet hes weightroom strong at least...hes probably got a vertical in the 45 inch range on the move....he was a D1 cornerback so even if he was slow by their standards(he wasnt)...hes fast as hell for a normal human.
D1 corner level athletes, who jump 45 inches, are hard to match in 6'7'' guys.
Vince could jump....he that fast?

according to Kobe'tards, '80s didnt had ATHLETIC players.
Superior genes are only produced as the century turned after 1999.
How could Spud gets 10x higher than Kobe ever did in his dreams!

That depends on whether or not you factor in strength into athleticism. I do. I'll go with Wilt.

I would say that the most athletic player would have to excel at multiple sports, on a professional level. Think of athletes like Deion Sanders, Jim Brown, Bo Jackson.

He didn't jump the highest but his wingspan is the same as a 7 footer

Since so many people mention players like Iverson excelling in other sports, what about Charlie Ward? Serviceable NBA career, but in college he won the Heisman trophy. He didn't just "play" football. He was voted the BEST player. And then shunned that career to be a good player with a long career in a completely different sport.
Not saying I think he's the most athletic.. but if some posters want to use the "success in other sports..." argument then he needed to be mentioned.

Apparently Ward was also drafted by the MLB and is an excellent tennis player. Also won some AAU award touting him as the most outstanding amateur athlete in the United States.
So maybe he IS the best athlete?

No.
Athletic as it pertains to the sport of basketball.
Being good at those other sports can come with a degree of skill that have nothing to do with athleticism.

I agree, with maybe one other sport. However, we're talking three others, with limited "crossover" skills.
Anyway, even knowing all that I'd never really pick him. I'd go the popular route with Wilt and Lebron being favorites, and players like David Thompson, Dr. J, Wilkins, Jordan, Vince, Iverson, Nate Robinson, etc, being dark horses.

Dude there is some pain that never goes away.
Thus all the hatred for the stacked 90s Bulls. Look at the 80s talk that still goes on between Celtics and Laker fans.
To this day I can't get over all the injuries in the playoffs that happened to the 1968 Sixer squad. The Celtics were weak. A big fat fail. Until those injuries happened.

I know, I feel like that for a lot of things. Len Bias, Reggie Lewis, 2010 Finals, but then when you say Dennis Rodman was more athletic than LeBron, because of one playoff series, then that's just being butt hurt.
