I need some new gear fam. I used to be a sneakerhead back in my teens and now that I am starting to get money like I used to, I want to get back in it but I don't know as much as some posters here.

Enough about me:

So lets share some of the all time b-ball shoes from every era/brand you can name.

I feel every all time great player from the past 20-30 years has a dope shoe in their arsenal whether it was shared or a part of their signature line.

Lebron 9's South Beach Elite's are sick. They have that 90's/South Beach neon colors to them plus the design of the shoe is awesome to me as well.

Except for the comfort and that they must be high tops and NIKEs then the coloring is important for me as far as looks go.... as long as they are in completely black or white its all good... red is also nice.... or a mix of black/red or white/red....

Quite easily, THESE.

No modern, over designed, alienating, ghetto colorways for me like the LeBron "South Beack" or the Kobe VII with snake skin pattern and yellow, purple, and gold.

The best of all time for me is a combination of elegance, style, class, functionality, and performance.

The best bball shoe of all time is the AJ XI

In ANY of the colorways. It looks so sleek, so sexy, and so classy. While also being performance beasts.

I want to be able to hoop in expensive shoes, and rock them and break necks. I don't want them having to have a niche outfit in my closet either. I don't want them colored like a ghetto bowl of "look at me" color fruity pebbles.

Yes they do. They didn't start doing that stuff until the mid to late 2000s. Prior to that a shoe had to be white or black based per NBA rules. And I think white / black based shoes with hints of color are stylish, yet classy.

Sure I can. I know my shoes. Thus the original "Swoosh" moniker username.

There has only been one pair of LeBron's I've really liked, and that's the LeBron 2. The rest are built like concrete bricks.

Today's shoes suck. Cheap materials, under the guise of "lightweight" yet they sell for a higher price than they used to be. Up until the early 2000s you could get a performance beast shoe that was made of REAL leather that was durable, that didn't last 3 months of constant pick up games.

I've burned through SO many pairs of Nike's the past several years since they went to mesh, plastic, and thin rubbers for their shoes.

And they play the consumer by releasing a v1, v2, playoff shoe, in outrageously hideous colors multiple times a season.

Look at LeBron's HORRENDOUS colored All Star sneaker. These lames think "louder" = "better"

I do agree that some shoes, especially Nike can be shotty. I will say that every pair that I posted, Held up extremely well to many hours on the street ball courts. There are a reason that these shoes sell well, they look "Nice". Shoes like the Foamposite are very unique that smaller brands don't have the technology or money to develop. The Foams took more abuse than any shoe that I ever owned. To this day they still look great 10+ years later.

Foamposites are the most durable shoes out there, those things don't crease and the foam rarely cracks, My original royals took 10 years of beating before I threw them away, just because I felt like the sole was too dirty and I bought new ones either way :oldlol:

If you're weird about gently used stuff, there's plenty of dead stock (new in box, but usually fairly pricey i.e. the price of a pair of new Jordans)

Check out shoe forums and places like solecollector (if it's still around). They have buy/sell/trade threads and most people seem legit although I've never bought from them.

I had a sick pair of red/white/blue Weapons a few years ago. They only seem to sell the poor man's weapons now (lower cut, less padding, newer looking), so you couldn't buy straight from Converse.

Adidas bought Reebok, which explains why you see ads now haha.

Nah I know there's some really high quality shoes out there, I was just being a little argumentative. I prefer the feel of the older ones, much more comfortable... Plus they could give you some cred with real sneakerheads if you want to get into collecting.

I just can't stand it when you pick up something like a shirt and then run into 5 other people wearing it. So the rarity factor of older shoes is worth it to me too.

I don't see that in lebron's south beach does. Don't see the over design or ghetto in the miami vice based shoes. The colors certainly aren't alienating depending on your culture/place your from and certainly alienating colors in Miami/80's-90's vice Miami

I actually like the colorways to those shoes.

I don't need to get basketball shoes anymore, as I don't play anymore. When I go out for drinks, dinner or to the clubs, I'm usually dressed up so I like to spend that money on dressy shoes. I have no problem dishing out $500-$1000 for a pair of shoes but I just don't have use for these sneakers nor can I match them with my wardrobe.

Well yes, the technology becomes dated. By the shoes from like '96 forward are of similar tech wise to today. The XI was the first shoe to feature Nike Zoom (the best technology IMO) ...

Jordan's have become a luxury item, sure. But also the vast majority of "retros" are stripped of the original technologies, because dumb collectors don't know the difference and will purchase regardless. Plus they won't being wearing them to play ball in ... so the performance aspects aren't needed. Jordan's are a status symbol for casual wear.

No one balls in retro Jordans, at least not casual people. Nate Robinson just wore a pair the other day v.s. the Heat. They still are very high functioning ball shoes. Your feet won't "get hurt" when the originals have the performance technologies still inside of them.

A lot of today's stuff is very cheaply made. No longer is durable and protective leather used. Comparing them to Chuck Taylors is BEYOND idiotic. Plus, the performance Jordan is whatever is that year's model. Not the retros. Those still have technology inside of them.

"Peak" is a stupid name but companies with names "Nike" or "Reebok" are not.

I always thought the name Nike was lame duck. And the swoosh is just as lame if not more.

Michael Jordan made Nike and the swoosh logo cool. heck eventually he had to get his own logo (jumpman) cuz he became too cool for Nike.

AJ11 is the most overrated sneaker of all time. For anyone who is old enough to remember when they originally came out, co-sign me on this.

I got the concords when they first came out, and they're weren't exactly a high quality sneaker. The upper material was fcuking impossible to clean, and the shoes altogether didn't last very long.

Quality wise, they were garbage compared to the 12's (which were TANKS)

People like them for their look.

They're just sleak, clean and classy looking.

And the fact that they fall apart so soon and are hard to clean kind of add to their image connoting wealth. The person wearing them can afford to spend a lot of money on a goodlooking shoe they may not even wear that long and will cop another pair to replace it.

Th AJ 11 was more than durable for me. And the upper light weight, albeit sturdy mesh was not difficult to clean for me. I liked the 12s, but I wasn't a fan of the weight of the shoe (much like the 8s) ... the 11s were so light, so durable, so sexy an instant legendary shoe much like the AJ I, and AJ III.

The AJ 11 re-invigorated the sneaker community. It's influence can still be seen to this day. Hell, it's more than obviously LeBron's favorite sneaker. He's had 3 or 4 different models that all took exact design elements from it. Or in some cases, literally were a rip off of it
