Apparently North Korea has changed they way basketball is played.
Chinese media report that North Korea has developed its own scoring system for the game: three points for a dunk, four points for a three pointer that doesn't touch the rim, and eight points for a basket scored in the final three seconds. (This rule is ... intriguing? The endings of North Korean basketball games must be cutthroat!) A missed free throw means minus-one point.

3 pts for a dunk and 4 pts for a 3 can be fun

But I don't agree on the 8 pts in the last 3 sec (8 pts is too much) and the minus 1 point on a missed FT (you reward hack-a-player).

Interesting but over the top with the 8 points within the last 3 seconds.

Seriously, it makes hacking a bad FT shooter better defense than any actual defense you could play..... wtf.

dunks should be worth 3 points. if u get fouled on a dunk, possible 4 point play.

Way to destroy the mid-range jump shot.

Way to destroy the mid-range jump shot.

Not at all. These changes actually make shots within the arc more valuable, since the one point difference is not as important if every basket is worth more.

Your logic is completely flawed.

If I have a choice of taking i) a '4 point' long shot, ii) a dunk worth 3 points, or iii) a mid-range shot for just 2 points, how likely is it that I settle for the mid-range jump shot?

Not very, since it's worth half as much as the traditional three-pointer (which is now worth 4 points).

That's why 1960s/70s basketball was so much fun to watch; the players excelled at the mid-range game. North Korea's basketball league are clearly only impressed by long-range bombers and dunkers.

Antoine Walker would feel right at home.

And I support minus one point for every missed free throw.

A dunk should be worth 25 points. I mean, how many Koreans are going to be able to dunk? :lol

Yea your right i misread the article. when it said 3 points for a dunk i assumed all shots within the arc would be worth 3 points, not just dunks.

if they import some black guys, then that team might average 200-300 points/game

If all you want to see is players spot up for 3s or pass it down low for a dunk, then these rules are great. If you actually enjoy other fundamentals of the game, these rules blow.

The 3 pointer has to "not touch the rim" in order for it to be counted as 4 points

Good luck trying to prove that in a tight game.

If you commit more than 2 fouls in a game, you get sentenced to hard labor for the next 2 years(because North Korea does not recognize a 24 hour cycle as a day, they recognize each kimchi fermentation period as a day, making 1 year, as long as 5 of our regular years.)
