To me it goes like this so far:

2013(depends on the playoffs)>2011>2012

Lebron23
03-10-2013, 11:20 PM
24-11 vs. 0.500 and above NBA teams
24-5 againts the Western Conference teams

They've already set a record for 6th best consecutive win streak in NBA history (I believe). The sky's the limit right now. Championship pending.

The 2008 Celtics were far more dominant than this Miami team yet performed poorly in the Playoffs before finally winning it. So I wouldn't assume anything based on the regular season.

Historic Good team? :oldlol: :facepalm

"They'd have to finish 19-2 to equal LeBron's personal best regular season, which was the 2008-09 Cavs. They'd have to finish 20-1 to equal the best regular season of the last decade with the 2006-07 Mavericks, who did it in a tougher conference."

^ that, plus 3 home game losses already? compares to only 2 when Lebron was with the Cavs, and he didn't even play one of the home game.

Also, remember when the Rockets went 22 straight wins? I doubt you do because they weren't that many superstars on that team.

Wow people especially coin24 riphtetik imnew09 cotdt you dont have to be a good regular season performer to qualify as a historic team.

Remember lakers 3peat they were average in regular season however they dominated the opposition and they have been regarded as one of the best teams of all time especially the season they went 15-1.

If miami wins with a record like 16-3 16-2 16-1,they will be regarded as an historic team too.

IF is a big word right there. They only have last year because in 2011 they lost pathetically last thanks to Lebron so they have at least to win this year and the next to be know as a historic good team.

Dude
Other people are saying they are not a great team because of their regular season record.

I said no team in history of NBA by their regular season performances. If that was true lakers 3peat with shaq wouldnt be one of the best teams of all time.

I say if because its a condition they sure seem to be heading that way.

Every player in the top 10 has been on "both sides".

They are a historically talented team - maybe the most talented group of perimeter players ever assembled - But they have core weaknesses that could be exploited.

Any team with a center and elite rebounding would make it difficult for them. Shaq in Cleveland would still eat up their front court in the 25 or so minutes he could play and they would get out-rebounded.

They probably wouldn't win though - as long as Miami's complementary players make their jumpers.

2011 is fresh in everyone's minds. if lebron covers it up with 3-4 more rings, most ppl will dismiss it. which other top 10s failures are we so reminded of? kobe's? shaq's? wilt's? 2011 finals were worse than anything any of those have endured in the finals. it's 1 thing to miss shots, it's another to disappear to the tune of not even knowing they are on the floor anymore.

No one is saying the 2011 Finals should be forgotten. Its a black mark on his career. My point is that everyone in the top 10 has been on the other side as you put it. Everyone in the top 10 has had low points. I agree with you though, he needs to win more rings to put it behind him. But no one is perfect. Shaq has been swept numerous times in the playoffs. Kobe has the 04 Finals debacle. Bird's Celtics were upset by inferior teams more than once. Magic came back strong from the 84 Finals. Hakeem was at one point considered a malcontent at one point. Houston was on the verge of trading him to Miami but they wouldn't give up both Steve Smith and Glen Rice. Kareem's Lakers missed the playoffs one season. Wilt has had a ton of low points in the playoffs. Winning cures everything.

04 finals? Really ? Malone one of the main guys was injured, it wasn't Kobe's fault unless he intentionally hit him with a bat.

Same with Shaq at least in the 90's, Penny was injured I believe.

Bird's Celtics lost due to injuries to various players to include Bird.

Kobe shot a dominant Shaq out of the game by shooting sub-40% and trying to take every shot; it was worse than Lebron 2011 because his was an intentional sabotage. It was Kobe saying either i win this or no one does.

The bolded is extremely true, the talent on this team is on a historically stacked level. They do have some weaknesses, but they cover them up so well by making you play their way and at their tempo. And there aren't many teams in the East who can really challenge them, so they've got it pretty easy from that standpoint. I've honestly never seen a championship favorite with such an easy pathway to a ring. It's honestly like a well paved path is carved out through the East, just for them.

Derka
03-11-2013, 11:10 AM
No doubt that they're playing the best ball in the League right now by far. Best team going into these playoffs if they keep playing like this AND the odds-on favorite to repeat.

But historic? No.

Lebron's Cleveland teams had consecutive 60+ win seasons (with much less depth and talent and a so-so coach) and people pretty much ignore those years.

The historic part comes if they make the Finals the next 2 years. They'd be the first team since Magic's Lakers to make the Finals four straight seasons.

I saw last night that Denver's 14 game winning streak has been against teams with a combined W/L % of .505 while Miami's has been against .488. Obviously that doesn't mean Denver>Miami, I just found that interesting.

Which one is more impressive so far? 14 straight wins vs higher quality clubs or 24 wins in a row? Personally, I think it's Miami because any off game and there goes your win streak, especially now that every team will go extra hard to snap the Heat's streak. Both teams deserve respect though.
