BTE Chess Tour: Sign up & Perform.

We're now accepting players for the annual (first time actually) BTE Chess tournament. It takes place on the easy-to-use site www.chess.com All you have to do is register a nickname using a real email address (which is kept private), add me or anybody else from the crew to your friends list (optional), and you're set to go. We will not play within the website's template of the tournament (it could be for the premium users only or whatnot), we are simply going to have our own schedule and matchups made offsite.

We're going to have an 8 players tournament where players are randomly assigned to two groups, and one plays twice against guys of his group and once guys from the opposite group. Then we hold semifinals and finals. It's 3 days per move, but we prefer to have at least one match a day. Make sure you'll be fairly active, or else - you're disqualified.

No, you're supposed to start fresh, and knowing this is the time that counts.

Also, do not hesitate to submit your finished games. You can decide which one (you or partner) is going to PM me the link of the game and the resut. I think history for non premium users stays for the last 5-6 games (although I might be wrong), and it's possible after you have played 5-6 games on top of the old one, it cannot be viewed. So, lets not find that out the bad way.

yeap, he was going to be one bishop ahead of me.. it was unexpected when he made that mistake. but he lost his queen because of it, so that might be why he resigned.

as for the tournament, most people seem to be pretty active. i'm starting my games with people from the other group already. we just have to worry about what to do if some players aren't active enough i think.

You almost never lose a game without making big mistakes. This is even true for very high-level players, although that's because they have a different idea of what is "big."
Moving the f-pawn early is generally considered a little risky. It can open up your King to various threats and doesn't help you develop anyhow. Of course 1.d4 f5 is a respectable opening but personally I'm not sure I'd recommend it at your level.
Notice how your early pawn moves made g6 and e5 into weak squares, which could no longer ever be defended by a pawn. This allows me to use my pieces freely; in this case my Knight, although I didn't accomplish all that much with this power. Be careful about this; it could have been worse for you.
4...h6 was also simply a waste of time in addition to creating a weak square and completely ruining the possibility of castling Kingside. I can only assume you were trying to forestall Ng5 because you've been hit with forks that way, but that threat is far away, and if I'd try it you can handle it without freaking out like this.
Your biggest problem though is that you never castled. Everything that happened in the last half of the game was because your King was out in the open. Once it was too late to castle, abandoning your King to go Pawn-hunting with 16...Qb4+ was also a mistake. Castling is absolutely essential in all but a rare few games and you should be planning for it from the start.

Most bizzare thing about Timacles to me is his willingness to push his piece right back where it sat a move before.. He's withdrawing and not caring about not ever-expanding a bit. Very confident, but should be a weakness... But this is overall, the game that you have going is pretty conventional.

I dislike fapto, generally.

Yea, I cant log onto to play while im at work and i only get an hour before bed to make a move. So its been like a move a day.. and sometimes i've drank/smoked too much so i refrain from moving.
