View Full Version : Am I the only person who would favor the Lakers over the Spurs in 1/8 match up?

If the playoffs started today the Lakers would have to play the Spurs in a 1/8 match up. The Lakers match up much better against the Spurs then they do the Thunder. I actually favor the Lakers over the Spurs in the playoffs. Who else feels the Lakers can beat the Spurs?

I wouldn't favour the Lakers due to their inconsistency, but they match up well with the Spurs.

Nah, I don't see it.

Spurs run circles around that old team, and wear their legs out by game 3.

The Lakers defense is atrocious.

Anyone have the Lakers 3pt. defense stats?

Where do they rank in that department?

Their perimeter defense is laughable at best, and Dwight's not exactly Orlando Dwight, just yet.

but everybody else spurs win, theyve won 50 so far, have num1 seed in west,Duncans play has improved from last year, tiago is producing more, kawhi stepped up,and an improved tp along with a better bench and healthy roster come playoff time spurs would win,

Lakers dont have a single advantage over the spurs, not one along with spurs having great 3 pt shooting and that being a weakness for la along with a quick pg a hevy weakness and most obvious along with a great frontcourt, perimeter defenders, speed its over

I think it would be a very fun series to watch, especially if both teams are healthy. Tony Parker is going destroy us.

either 4 - 0 or 4 - 1 for the spurs

spurs would win every game at home, and split the games in LA .

Against playoffs teams lakers are 2 - 16 ( counted utah as well) on the road.
2 wins vs brooklyn and golden state ( who were up by double digits and blew it in 4th quarter, 4th game in 5 nights).

They would rather face the Spurs than OKC... This is one of those where you look at matchups and think, hmm..

Then Pop simply out-coaches whatever talent is on the other side to a 4-1 series win.

Tony Parker will come back rusty, if you've ever played organized basketball which I'm sure you haven't being a fat nerd like the majority of the board you would probably understand that. They'll see TP out until the playoffs and he'll need about 5 games to get back into the "groove" of things.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Lakers knock out Spurs. Not that I think they are the favorites but it's certainly very possible to happen.

On the other hand I would be pretty surprised if they knock out OKC.

Not really.....his damage is accounted for. The Spurs bigs are going to struggle, specially Duncan and the other Spur bigs. You shut those down with Gasol, Clark, and Dwight and bye bye Spurs in a series. We all know Gino and the rest are not gonna do much. Not with Metta and Kobe taking turns....

Lakers for sure unless Pop outcoaches Mike 200%.

OKC is another story. We have no answer to Kevin (Clark and Metta - lol) nor Westbrook (The Steves + Kobe part time) + they have two bigs that can, at times, slow the production of our bigs. it all depends on how good the Lakers team defense gets from now to the playoffs. They are definitely beatable - executing is another story.

The Lakers can't beat the Spurs and neither can D'Antoni. Kobe is capable of beating the Spurs, but he needs to get into a zone and stay there for a series. He did it a few times against the Spurs though, so it's not unfathomable.

The spurs depth wont mean shit when rotations shorten to eight or so players, their formula isnt going to mean shit. I've got the Lakers in 6. All this talk about Parker, but no one is asking what SAS is going to do against Gasol, Kobe and Howard.

 So much stupidity on this board, reminds me of why I don't frequent here as often any more.

Duncan/Splitter is more than capable of handling Howard/Gasol. You obviously haven't been watching the Spurs this year and Splitter's development in particular. Even at his age, there's no way Howard's punk @$$ outplays Duncan in a 7 game series. I actually want to see this series real bad so we can all see Timmy sh*t all over that f*ggot.

Kawhi Leonard and Cap'n Jack are more than capable of making things difficult for Kobe. More so than the Lakers pathetic defense is in regards to Manu and TP. Those two will take turns shredding LA's "defense" forcing Kobe to have to take turns guarding them, wearing him out even more and making Leonard and Jackson's jobs easier. Plus the Spurs shooters will kill them as well.

Like others have stated, speed/quickness and athleticism is what is needed to beat SA, something the Lakers have none of. Spurs in 4-5 tops. Plus we're forgetting the Spurs biggest advantage: Pop>>>>>>>>>>>>>D'Antoni

Spurs vs OKC in the WCF again.

Too bad for the Spurs the Lakers will outbound old Timmy and slow Splitter by 10 rebounds each and every game. Spurs fans prepare to spread your legs.

Without Kobe, Lakers will go to 6 games with SPURS as SAS win 4-2.

With Kobe, Lakers get SWEPT as SAS go 4-0.

Plain & Simple.

SAS play team ball with perfect team chemistry in harmony lead by selfless GOAT coach.

LAL play Kobe-ball & Kobe will make sure LAL get SWEPT.

Kobe LED Lakers cannot be down 10-12 pts in Mid 3rd Q or early 4th Q every game against SAS & expect to win even a single game.

A well oiled machine like SAS will ALWAYS make a very clutch very late 4th Q run & that will put the game out of LALs reach & hence SWEEP.

Without Kobe, LAL will be down no more than 2-3 pts vs SAS in late 3rd Q cuz of much better ball movement, much better chemistry, they might have a chance of winning atleast 1 game of the series.

Homeboy 33 years old spending every minute of his life sitting in his parent's basement typing about Kobe. He has some of the most uneducated responses as well. Honestly, before I clicked on his profile, I assumed by some of his responses that he was 14, 15 years old.

Trailer Park trash need to grow up on this forum. Earning off one's moth***'s banged Va**** in trailer is not a good way to make quick bucks. Kobe ball has led to Lakers falling behind 10-12 pts regularly throughout this season in 3rd quarter.

Just go check the scoreboard. They are always making late runs.

Post season teams wont be New Orleans Hornets chocking away last 8 mins of the game with only 2 pts so that Lakers can come back 15 pts down & win a thriller.

Kobe only had two great series against the Spurs (+Shaq and Gasol)

2001 Spurs perimeter = Antonio Daniels + a handful of players at the end of their careers : Terry Porter (38),Avery Johnson (36),Steve Kerr (35),Sean Elliot (33)

2008 Bruce Bowen (37) was at the end of his career and Ginobili was playing injured

Kobe was useless in 1999 and 2003 and played well in 2002 and 2004.The Lakers were terrible when the Spurs were at their best (2005-2007) so Kobe never had a chance to get destroyed by those great Spurs teams.

The Spurs bigs are going to struggle, specially Duncan and the other Spur bigs
Howard as Superman is Lakers' only chance.

it's not gonna be easy.Tiago is playing well and Duncan looks rejuvenated (28/19 vs Mavs and 30/12/4/5 vs Cavs)

Spurs sweep the Lakers very easily. This is a terrible basketball team that relies on the three-ball to win them games. They don't play defense, they don't function as a team. They're as bad as you can get for a playoff opponent. The young Spurs guards and wing players are probably hoping to play this decrepit, old Lakers team and run them off the court. Hell, Danny Green laughed at the notion of playing LA in the first round. The young, enegetic Rockets would be a challenge. The Lakers are a cakewalk in comparison.
