View Full Version : Can't believe Durant has 176 more ft attempts than Lebron

As of today, 3/17/13

Lebron has 443,
Durant with 619

:facepalm

Can't believe Durant has so many more freethrow attempts than Lebron when Lebron attacks the rims almost every possession. It's just sad. Mad props to Lebron

I didn't mention Kobe unless you guys still want to compare those 2 young fellas on their peak to a 34 yrs old Vino.

This is not surprising at all. I've been saying this for how long? People are just starting to catch on that I'm not "trolling" or "hating". It's 100% accurate. Durantom gets an absurd amount of baby calls.

People think LeBron can't get hit hard. But I think another thing is that when Durant gets fouled it's very obvious and you can clearly see his reaction but when LeBron gets smashed or hit, he isn't as inclined to fall down or move back. Much stronger.

because guys in the league know that if they take a breath on lebron, they'd get called. So they give him more space = less free throws.

other players get d'ed straight up, so they get the foul calls.

That should be the norm, he attacks even more than Lebron, thing is, Lebron is pushed and hacked every damn time, but because he can take it refs swallow the whistle. Contact is contact, no matter how big and strong you are.

Durant has better reactions after drawing contact, and even if he doesn't draw contact.

At least with some players, they'll drive to the basket and the refs will give them the benefit of the doubt. It's unbelievable how many times i've seen Durant just dribbling around the top of the key and he gets free throws when he literally didn't get touched by a single player.

Lebron doesn't need free throws to be effective. Not only that, but Lebron's flops are better than Durant's as well.

Quality, not quantity. Plus, Durant doesn't need to flop to get free throws. He just needs to kinda be almost touched by the opposing team.

Yes, I'm hating. I don't like Durant.

Whose fault is that?

You develop shooting through practice. It's not like Durant was born with the ability to make 22 footers.

Durant is so damn long - it's hard to not touch him when he's going to the rim. He sells it tho.

Thunder is #2 behind lakers in FTA attemps with 1802 attempts.

Heat is right in the middle with 1498 FTA.Heat has one of the lowest
FG in paint/FTA ratios in the league.

Lebron and wade doesnt get a call unless they are murdered.

Lebron is leading the league in points in paint yet he is only #7 with 6.9FTA attempts

It seems like no one understands this rule. IT IS STILL A FOUL. However, it is not a shooting foul (which is how they call it). The only time Durant is awarded free throws on the rip move is when they are in the bonus. He seems to use it more when they are already in the bonus (smart play).

Some guys just know how to draw fouls. Kevin Martin was great at it in Houston and Sacramento. He's far from a superstar.

No, they don't. This seems to becoming a popular false belief on here. I don't like the rip through move as much as anyone else, but Durant never gets FT's from it unless OKC is in the bonus.

I can. Despite how much of a "Golden Boy" LeBron is, it's Durant and the Thunder who get babied by the officiating crews and league more than anyone else.

If Corey Maggette around 03-07 would get the calls Durant is getting, he'd be shooting 22 free throws a night due to the fact that he would actually attack the rim on 80% of possessions where he wasn't taking 9 steps or passing to the wrong team

ralph_i_el
03-17-2013, 04:52 PM
Because people move out of Lebrons way or hit him and just bump off him. He's a train and there's only a couple guys who can and will stand in and stop him

Durant is a great scorer who you expect to get a good amount of free throws because he's so long and such a great shooter that his shot is almost impossible to contest. Plus, he has become good off the dribble and has handled the ball more, especially since Harden was traded, as well as the fact that he moves well without the ball, and often cuts to the basket.

But with that being said, I agree that the amount of FTA and some of the calls he gets are excessive. If he merely twists his body in awkward way while shooting a jumper or lay up, he usually gets a foul call, especially if he misses the shot and the defender is guarding him tight. He also still gets the call on that rip move quite a bit, which wasn't supposed to be the case, his frame benefits him with some questionable calls compared to a guy like Lebron and Durant clearly tries to draw fouls.

He's getting to the line at a rate similar to young Shaq/prime Shaq, a guy who played almost exclusively 10 feet and in, and was fouled intentionally.

Right, which is why he shoots over 50%. Didn't know 4/12 was 50%, could have sworn it was 33%.
