I've been to weddings where the groom was the only black person at the wedding and they didn't get stared at all night. :facepalm You people worry me. Black people are not uncommon. Are you talking about a wedding in thailand or something?

LKizzle, is it important they are asian? What kind of asian? Are you trying for something culturally appropriate?

do they have a registry somewhere? That would be the way to go for any wedding. Other than that, I find a Morris Day and the Time CD is always appreciated. Definitely dont get them something too asiiany

You buy craaaaazy smirey face mirrion dorrah!

But seriously, a toaster? Rice cooker? Maybe a good, solid cutting board? Shit married couples will need.

The groom is a very traditional Asian man, according to her. She's not but her family really is.

If they were both Americanized Asians, I'd possibly have an idea. Also, she doesn't know who Morris Day is, her lose.

i just picked up mulan on blu ray 2 days ago. seriously, but don't get that as a gift. its obvious that she invited u for a reason. she wants you to object her marriage and inject your dingaling in her pum pum.

but if u don't wanna go that route. get her a gift certificate at payless. women love shoes.

Asians don't do gifts; you got to get a red envelope and put some money in it. And seriously, if you don't want to give money, you don't have to; only family members ane close friends are expected to give money, not random guests.

Asians get red pockets with cash. Don't give them a gift, they'll be pissed. :oldlol:

Red envelope with $60 in it (if you go by yourself) or $120 in it (if you bring a date).

A nice sake set? Even if their not Japanese, everyone like sake. I think. Except for people who don't drink I guess.

And a sake set not in the sense of the glass/ceramic flask and cups but rather a combination of like 3-5 different sakes. Well, I just looked and doesn't look like these exist :lol however you could be creative and buy different kinds on your own and put it together in a wodden box or something. Make it look classy like those liquor sets they sell. Probably can order everything through amazon. Guessing like $50 for everything. Also by different, I don't mean just brand. Look into the types of sake.

Orrrrrr......just do the flask and cups sake set. More conventional a gift I suppose.

Buy them a couple wax warmers + wax, maybe something like this;

Asians expect you to pay them to come to their wedding? How shitty.

Not a bad concept imo. Why go buy something that someone might not need, when everyone needs cash?

Everyone expects you to pay them to come to their wedding. White people take money too.

Cash is a good gift if you don't know the people well anyway.

no, it's practical. it helps them pay off wedding expenses and start off their new lives not in debt. wtf would we want a bunch of junk we most likely already have anyways?

:oldlol: @ the rice cooker comment. Name me an asian who didn't get one the moment they moved away from the household?

I'm filipino, my wifey is filipina. Our weddings aren't any different from any traditional wedding. Except for maybe the fact we play alot of line dance music like the Electric Slide and the Bird Dance

But as for the present, it is customary to give cash. The only gifts I got were from the non-asians. :lol

They are not Americanized Asians, I stated that already. They are very traditional. She doesn't drink or curse and I'm pretty sure he doesn't either. I've only met him once and he is real quiet.

I will give them some moneys.

Korean.

i know korean is heavy on traditions so something that represents good luck. Something small that they can put on shelves or what not. And if they are korean they dont really take red pockets, thats a chinese thing so... maybe a bracelet for them both?

xfactor99
03-22-2013, 02:15 AM
Eh...I think if I was them I would be weirded out if a black guy got 'em Asian gifts. Either way it's hard to answer this question without knowing what he or she likes? Do you know? What does she like on Facebook. Something of interest here.

A safe choice is money or scotch/wine  Koreans love the scotch.

Serious answer tho most weddings I've been to the couple getting married sets up an online wedding registry thing with their wish list of crap and you can just pick something off the list. Then you check it off the list so nobody else buys it.

I'm sorry but a Playstation 3 for a wedding? This is not a gift for some 8 year old on his birthday; this is a wedding. Kudos to the OP for actually caring enough about different cultures to find out what is an appropriate gift. Some of you guys are coming up with some lame a*s ideas. But seriously OP, you prob don't have to give out any money unless if you are a really close friend of her's. Usually aquaintances aren't expected to give money as a gift. If you want to do it the American way and get a gift, then a nice bottle of liquor should do it.

If you go to a wedding and can afford it you bring a gift. He is in america. Not a bottle of liquour. Something off the registry or an envelope with cash.

Lol you're still making this harder than it is. Ok so they're not Americanized but they live in America and I assume one of them speaks English and are a human couple. So you can't buy them a bottle or a Bill Bellamy stand up DVD, but everything else is fair game.

You don't need to get all gimmicky because they're Asian :lol . Actually it'll be pretty funny if you came with a gag gift like a fancy set of chopsticks or driving for dummies book or something offensive.

But money is always a good choice. Every culture likes money.

I don't think they know who Bill Bellamy is. She didn't know who Lil Wayne was until a few years ago when I told her I don't like him. :lol

A gag gif, at an Asian wedding. I'll be one of 3 black folks there, I'll probably get mean looks and maybe even a karate chop.
