View Full Version : Smoking nicotine increases brain power, boosts attention, motor skills...
http://dengulenegl.dk/English/Nicotine.html
^^If you non-smokers can't get through that whole article, there might be a good explanation- you need some nicotine. Numerous studies show that nicotine intake, even among non-smokers, increases work productivity, concentration levels, brain power, and several other brain-related things. I've known this for years as a smoker. Every time I was having trouble writing, or getting through a school assignment, I'd light up a cigarette. Gets me right back on track.
Since birth most of us have been told all the negatives about cigarettes, and there are quite a few. But the positives need to be shown. Smokers don't just smoke because they're addicted, cigarettes give people real benefits. Including fighting against Alzheimers and Dimensia. Look it up.
So now we've got electric cigarettes. I quit Newports for e-cigarettes, and I must say it's the best decision I've made in a while. But even still, despite not having any tobacco or carcinogens, we have people wanting to ban them from public places, treat them just like cigarettes. I truly believe a lot of this comes from a misunderstanding about nicotine...
People frequently see me smoking electric, and are like, "so when are you going to quit?" I say, never! Why should I? "The nicotine, it's gotta be bad for you still....." Ughhhh
I really hope you non-smokers can lighten up on this issue, because I'd love to bring my electric cigarette into work with me. Sitting at a desk for 8 hours would be 100x more manageable without dealing with nicotine withdrawal. Mmm
Should people be blowing big vapor clouds into your face while you're walking down the street? Hell no. But puffing away in the office corner, keeping it on the down low? Come on guys, work with me here..

Fck off with that shit. Cons outweigh pros by 12.

1) Why isn't it right? Are we supposed to ignore the positives of something just because there's (supposedly, disputably) more negatives? People have been smoking tobacco for a lonnnnggg time. Open your mind like me. Open up your plans and damn you're free. Jason Mraz son.
2) What's your opinion on electric cigarettes? No tobacco, no carcinogens. There hasn't been a lot of research yet, not including some shady "studies" put on by tobacco companies, but I personally highly doubt they're very unhealthy, if at all. All that's in it is nicotine, some flavoring, etc. Within a week of vaping and having quit smoking I felt my lung capacity improve drastically.

It just got a little intense and negative for me there for a while. I became really engulfed in it and I just feel the need to step back for a bit. I still love the topic but I need some time to cleanse my brain and go back to being a little more carefree. HENCEEEE the picture <------
I weave subtext into my profile pictures, you guys don't even know !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

no offense bro, but nobody really cares about your intuitive opinion on this, we need some actual scientific study to be convinced.
everybody though smoking was healthy 50 years ago, but just based on intuition, like your opinion on these electronic cigarettes.

It was also found that nicotine use improves car driving, plane driving, long term memory, short term memory, allows the brain to focus for longer periods of time...

Look my grandpa died because of smoking caused cancer. He lived though lung one but then got some throat (gullet) cancer which got him. Its too risky. I will never smoke in my life.
2. Im not really familiar with those. Some of my friends use it, but I cant comment. It might be the way tho. I dont know.

None taken, I completely agree. I'm not really basing what I'm saying on intuition, it's just a simple look at the ingredients list. The comparison to cigarettes seems natural but it's also kind of apples and oranges. From an e-cig site that I just googled for this purpose:
Our PG E-Liquids contain food grade Propylene Glycol, food grade flavoring, pharmaceutical grade nicotine, and water
Cigarettes have rat poison and tar and shit. It's just a totally different situation. If the distributors are being honest about their ingredients list, which wouldn't be hard to test for scientists in future studies, I really feel good and optimistic that there's not much if anything to worry about health wise with these things.
I find it funny, when I research the individual ingredients, from everything I can tell they're a very minimal health risk, if being a health risk at all whatsoever. But when I read studies I frequently find how e-cigarettes aren't a safe alternative, etc. Truth is a lot of these studies are biased and if you look at who's funding them... it's someone who has something to gain by producing the results they produced. But that doesn't mean they're wrong, so I agree that we should wait until more tests are done. I just hope "waiting until more tests" means that businesses ban them, not the law. Because if we get a law banning them from public places, that's not going away no matter what the studies say..
Why not just chew on nicotine gum then?
According to these studies here, chewing nicotine gum did give you a boost over non-nicotine users but actually smoking it produced the highest results.
This is the stupidest thread ever. You think people smoke for no reason? Of course there are things it brings you. It also relaxes you, etc. It also causes like 7 billion diseases because breathing in smoke is pretty stupid.
The fact OP is using this to be pro smoking is beyond me.
Note: Electronic cigarretes could allow me to shoot light beams from my eyes and i'd not use them. It's like wearing a tshirt that says "i'm a douche, i have a flashlight in my mouth".

Ahh, I'm really sorry to hear that. I didn't start smoking looking for any positive effects of nicotine, I just find it really cool that there are some. I think it's great to never smoke and I envy people who make that decision.

I think the nicotine effects I listed in my post are pretty extraordinary and not something most people associate with nicotine- unlike relaxing. If the study simply found that cigarettes help people relax of course I wouldn't have posted it. But increasing brain power to a statistically significant degree, even among usual non-smokers? That's pretty damn cool.
Your post seems to exemplify how society has become so white-hot against smoking, to the point where it's kind of becoming overkill. Everyone knows that cigarettes are terrible for you, and they lead to a lot of deaths. But sadly nicotine has become bunched in with that, which is really not that harmful for you. And it's even somewhat questionable how bad tobacco truly is, if you were to remove all the chemical the cigarette companies use. Just some food for thought.
My electric cigarette doesn't light up by the way, so...... :basketball

Nicotine yes...
Smoking no...
You can basically smoke cigarettes with only vitamins inside and get cancer.... the smoke... the chemicals... might aswell put a gun to your head and get over with it...
There is alot of other MUCH healther ways to intake nicotine, in Europe we have for example white portion snus/snuff (not American snuff, that shit is horrible & disgusting)... but this:

You put one under your lip and you are ready to go, its not visible, doesnt smell etc. Its kindof like small tea bag looking bags in optional sizes, optional tastes and optional nicotine content.... and the best part is its completely harmless and gives a much higher nicco-rush, nobody in 100 years have died from this and 100 years of studies confirm this... except for what nicotine can do to your body eventually...

Enjoy your cancer. Maybe that added brain power will help you create a cure.

Lots of brainwashed people with no self control here.
Smoking 20 cigarettes per month probably wouldn't have much of a negative health effect. Keep in mind you would have to be smoking tobacco with no additives.
That means during the work week, one cigarette per day timed exactly when you need a boost. I see nothing wrong with it.

Yeah they boost attention and brain power for 20 minutes. So does coffee or redbull or a wide selection of other drugs. You arent actually becoming smarter or more attentive. You're just so stupid, that things like this are helping you.
These aren't actual "positives" of cigarettes. They are superficial temporary boosts that wear off. All you are doing is creating a crutch for yourself. Oh Im a little tired, ill have a ciggarette, oh im cranky, ill have a ciggarette. Learn to deal with life without them my friend.

Agreed. Thats why they are called stimulants, they push your brain cells to work better for limited amount of time. The long term effect are arguable and some even suggest that they are negative. Drugs that supposedly make you smarter is a whole another story.
Do they pay you to advertise that shit? You seem to put it everywhere.

hehe i am kindof biased with it... for a nicotine guy i think its the greatest invention, its almost like inventing a way to consume an even higher amount of cocain or cannabis or whatever very discretly and it all is harmless (hypothetics, but u get it i think)..... and you can also quit from it very easily considering the optional nicotine volumes, there is even some that are completely nicotine free but filled with green tea instead, so it can be very healthy to lol....
This doesnt exist in US i think, you can order tho and try.... only bad thing ofcourse is the addiction....
Nicotine itself doesnt cause cancer as far as i know.
Exactly, its infact harmless... but there is risks for developing heart problems after millions years of abuse, like much else, but that also depends more likely on everything else (diet, exercise, lifestyle, genes)... only bad thing is the addiction...
Tried it? Any noticeable stimulating effect on the brain? Does it cause addiction? How about tolerance?
Yes! I use it quite often (have to order from Scandinavia)... compared to smoking the nicotine hits you in a MUCH more effective way, as in you get much better/higher and more constant nicotine-rush (especially depending on the level of nicotine volume you chose), so i would assume its more stimulating, it certainly is for me and anybody else i know who tried it.... smoking/cigarettes for some reason i could never feel that nicotine rush/stimulating effect, so i wouldnt use it even if it was completely harmless.... for me it was completely useless and is a cancer-stick anyways, only slow evident death and looking "cool" while at it........
But ofcourse, white portion snus is addictive, its all nicotine afterall... but like i said is also very easy to quit because you can buy it nicotine free or with optional nicotine volumes...

When you get to your sixties and you can even breath because your lungs and full of crap so that they have to either intubate you or put a nasal laryngeal airway through your nose (no sh1t right nasal thing through your nose lol) then don't come complaining here about how things suck in your life. I've seen so many people with COPD, Ephysema, Asthma and the like due to smoking and you see them complaining about how they feel so bad.
And then I see my dad, never smoked in his life, actually eats healthy and with his blood pressure better than most 40 year old's (hes 53) and he is the picture of health. Does not even take any pills at all.

We have the exact same product in America retard. It's called snus, not snuff. Dip (snuff) is a totally different product. It's wet and you have to spit the juice, snus is dry and comes in portioned bags. You don't have to spit snus.
Also quit telling people it is harmless. It is a horrible disgusting habit that can cause mouth cancer and tooth loss. It isn't any safer than dip, and it also provides less nicotine than a ciggarette.

Don't listen to that retard. Snus is every bit as bad for you as dip, and I say this as a person who uses a can per day. It's also less potent than dip or ciggs.
I like it because I don't want to smoke for fitness reasons and I can keep a snus in while I workout and I don't have to worry about spitting the juice like with dip.
If you wanna try it in the US, Marlboro and Camel both make it but Camel is much better.

Its also genetic, what kindof damage those cigarette chemicals & the smoke etc. does and how fast the cancer is induced due to smoking depends on your genes/immune system etc. or whatever you want to call it...... I mean my grandfather smoked since he was 17 years old and he is 85 now, he is infact a healthy guy for his age, even though that is rare i think you maybe get my point.... but still, he would guaranteed be even more healthier & lived longer if he didnt smoke or especially if he never smoked....
I say its best to leave all that be... you dont want to find out how your genes etc. handle smoking.... "oops, i got cancer, alright now i know how long i could live with smoking, good bye world! yay!"

There are so many better ways to enhance brain function rather than using a chemical substance, kriya kirtan yoga being one of them.
If you are going to smoke just find some good organic wild tobacco. Who knows what the hell E-cigarettes are doing to you.
In the end you don't need to try and justify your addiction. I was a smoker for a while too, and it had the opposite affect on me. Cigarettes made me light headed, nauseous, and unable to focus if I smoked right before a mental task.
To each his own.

No, unfortunately i know what i am talking about, i did my research.... the huge difference between Scandinavian snus and American snus is that it is scientifically researched for risks for pancreatic & oral cancer.... that i would say is not good... this is because it is produced in a different way (has lots of nasty chemicals in it for example).... but the method/ingredients/whatever of how this Scandinavian snus is produced and its popularity is still under tests & growth around the globe... its a new thing outside Scandinavia afterall...
Scandinavian snus (especially Swedish) is the only cancer-free snus/snuff on this planet and that doesnt officially exist in US unless you found some importer/marketer or something like that.... would be hesitant about buying that in US because of that as those two are identical when you look at them, but the consequences/risks are completely different...
But American Snus is still MUCH more harmless in any way than Smoking.... but nowhere near as harmless as Scandinavian snus, this is where this specific snus was invented btw, in Sweden to be exact, its no coincidence they by far have the least smoking/nicotine caused deaths in Europe and in the world (per smoker/per nicotine user).
That is dip, snus looks like this:
http://blog.northerner.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/american-camel-snus.jpeg
Good news there... if you have that exact edition of snus in US then it is based on Scandinavian snus manifacture method or is imported from there (same exact Camel box and taste versions and everything in detail has existed here for over 30 years and they dont sell anything else than Scandinavian stuff), i say go for it.
If you want to make sure to buy the "harmless" snus i am talking about (Scandinavian) then go here: http://www.getsnus.com/ they import & manifacture Scandinavian (Swedish) snus, the warehouse is in US and its fairly cheap.
Sheesh.... these dudes should pay me lol, but seriously, its very good and its just nicotine... a hellava better option to smoking and easiest way to even quit smoking or using nicotine... you dont hurt the person next to you either.... :P snus is just smart...
Also this thread is retarded. Nicotine is a stimulant, of course it does all those things. So does coffee. And so does meth.
People think meth improves their brain power, but the article was talking about the ability to do real work, like work you'd be doing in an office. I doubt meth would help your ability to crunch numbers or focus deeper on a news article or something. But maybe I'm wrong. I know that MJ in particular always sparked my interest in those topics and gave me deeper insights. But harder drugs (the small few I've tried) didn't have that effect.

Its prob just a matter of intesity. Meth and whatnot are too power to focus in on something like work while nicotine highs are controllable.

"Tobacco in snus is steam pasteurized, a process that kills microbes that create some of the cancer-causing toxins. There is little to no risk of lung cancer. Researchers have not found an increase in oral cancer among snus users. One study found that snus users have a risk for pancreatic cancer of 8.8 cases per 100,000, compared with 3.9 cases per 100,000 for non-users of tobacco. However, smokers had the highest risk, at 13 per 100,000. Thus switching from smoking to snus reduces risks for all forms of cancer."

Snus makes you twice as likely to get pancreatic cancer than if you don't smoke. It's in no way "good for you" or problem free.
It's better than cigarettes - of course it is. Cigarettes are the ****ing worst.
"I've got something that's better than the worst thing you can possibly do to yourself - quick everyone, empty your wallets" <-- Snus commercial
Its prob just a matter of intesity. Meth and whatnot are too power to focus in on something like work while nicotine highs are controllable.
That sounds possible. My thought is that the dangers of cigarettes have ruined nicotine's reputation, which is kind of a small tragedy if you think about it. I've always loved the feeling of nicotine and it's nice to see some science to back that up. Nicotine to me could be viewed very similarly to how we view caffeine, but it's been all entangled with the hazards of cigarette smoking.
If (big if potentially) electric cigarettes can prove to be fairly safe, if not extremely safe, it'll be interesting to see if nicotine can make a mainstream comeback, similar to caffeine. Right now it seems impossible because culturally blowing a white cloud out of your mouth is seen as an abomination. But if the white cloud is (hypothetically harmless) vapor, could that change? Hm.

The bottom line is bro, if you have to depend on a substance, you are seriously disconnected from your own intuition, and that is a bad thing. You have a natural creative force given super sensibility if you know how to tap into the right energies. Just because some substances like coffee, and etc. are socially acceptable doesn't make them good for you, especially when they are chronically used. Nicotine is highly addictive, so why would you want to PAY for whatever benefit comes from it when you can reach it naturally. We don't need any more cooperations pushing chemicals on the populous through insane marketing, completely disconnecting people from their own god given capabilities. Man up, and stop relying on external means.

I don't see it that way, as "depending on a substance." Smoking to me is just something fun to do that I enjoy. My enjoyment of it was severely hindered by the smell/health effects, so switching to electric only makes me enjoy it that much more. I don't see smoking as interfering with any sort of natural capabilities I may have. I think that's more propaganda that even smokers have bought into over the years. I smoke because I enjoy it, plain and simple. Would you tell anyone else to quit vitamins, supplements, eating certain foods they enjoy, etc? No, but all of those things are also putting substances into the body. Where does eating right fit into this equation? Is that also using healthy food as a crutch? The line between nicotine and everything else I listed seems blurry.
And you mention them not being healthy, well, that's the issue that interests me. Because if you google "positive effects of nicotine," you do find some pretty awesome things.
http://dengulenegl.dk/English/Nicotine.html
Come on guys, work with me here..Some people are allergic to cigarette smoke. My mom is one of them.
So until you can figure out a way to consume nicotine without putting cigarette smoke in the air, you're going to have to **** off.
And you mention them not being healthy, well, that's the issue that interests me. Because if you google "positive effects of nicotine," you do find some pretty awesome things.I can google "positive effects of heroine" and I'm sure I can find plenty of sources.
That means nothing.
You are looking for justification for your unhealthy habit.
I don't care what you put in your body, but you are only fooling yourself by saying smoking is good for your health.

Yes, I would tell them the same thing as well. The vitamin, supplement, weightlifting industry is one of the worst. Lol. It's straight up preying upon peoples insecurities. If people go crazy, and are obsessed about eating healthy in the name of body worship, then yes it's bad, and they are out of touch with the true meaning of life. If people are physically addicted to eating unhealthy food it's a bad thing. They have lost control. The same goes for watching porn, wacking off, having sex, working, posting on an NBA forum, etc., etc. the lists goes on and on.
The substances or activities in and of themselves may not be the worst of things, but the addiction is. No matter what the addiction may be. If you can quit this very second, and go long periods of time without any stress or withdrawal then you're fine, but constantly seeking pleasure from external things is a sign of disconnection.
I will say this though, if you or anybody enjoys whatever they are doing that much, to each his own, and keep doing you want to do. Don't kill yourself trying to quit. Especially if it's for somebody else. Do what you gotta do or whatever you feels right.
The problem I see with this thread is that it reeks with denial and self justification, while also trying to persuade others that it's ok too. If you really didn't give a shit, or weren't concerned about the habit, you would have never made a thread like this one. Bottom line.

Well at least you're consistent. I see denying yourself external pleasures is missing a big chance in life. Nicotine, marijuana, alcohol.. to basketball, videogames.. some of my best life experiences involved external things. I can say I'm addicted to playing basketball in the summer.. I don't see it as a negative at all.

Ehh, no. Two reasons for this thread. 1) Because that article I read was just awesome, and I was feeling in a talkative (typeitive?) mood and wanted to share. 2) I tacked on the end about electric cigarettes because there is a lot of ignorance about them, point blank. Even from me less than a year ago. And I think they unfairly get lumped in with tobacco smoking, and all the endless hatred that gets. Which I also think is nimwitted. People probably eating nasty food and never exercising getting on other people for smoking. Lmao. I've always thought cigarettes were a bad habit, even when I smoked them, but I would never judge people for doing it to the extent so many others do. Cigarette haters to me are 100x worse than cigarette smokers. I'd rather cigarette smoke blown in my face than have to hear a cigarette hater on his high horse.
And it does effect me, because you're starting to hear calls for more regulation and generally treating e-cigs like cigarettes- but they're two entirely different products. They both contain nicotine, and they both cause you to blow a white cloud out of your mouth.. and that's where the similarities end. It just shows the shallow mindedness of people to connect two things that have way more differences than similarities. And I was basically reaching an olive branch out to you cigarette haters to say... reserve your judgment on these electric ones! That's all my friend. No anger meant to be incited, I enjoyed reading your points of view above.

Well technically I no longer smoke, I VAPE. But it sounds weird to use that term. Smoking entails the use of fire, whereas my device just heats up a metal coil turning water/nicotine/flavering into vapor.
But alas.

I smoke because I enjoy it, plain and simple.
You enjoy it because you are a drug addict with a chemical addiction to a brain altering stimulant just like all the people on crack.
But so many more people are addicted to smoking that making it illegal is seen as a freedom issue when telling people not to use other drugs isnt.

Many times ive been blown away by the shocking awfulness of your arguments but that might really be the most amazing paragraph ive ever read.
Far as this:
Cigarette haters to me are 100x worse than cigarette smokers. I'd rather cigarette smoke blown in my face than have to hear a cigarette hater on his high horse.
So its 100x worse to work to reduce drug addiction and public drug use than to promote the use of that drug as you do? Smoking has killed millions of people....many of them addicted on purpose...by companies that knew they were addictive and hid it for decades.
Companies giving candy flavored cigarettes away in the 3rd world getting people hooked for life....working with candy companies here making hush hush deals that promised no lawsuits for the candy companies making candy cigs in boxes that copied the real ones. Out here destroying the lives of whistleblowers sick of lying about dying babies and birth defects....
My stepfathers mother had a hole in her throat and an oxygen tank from before I ever met her...the quality of life smoking puts onto people...often good people who are just addicted at too young an age to know better...
The shit is a shame. I can honestly say id trade 5 years of my own life if I can make sure my kids never get caught up in that.
I remember when my aunt was dying and I was too young to understand why she wouldnt just stop. My mom explained it but not very well. It made her upset to talk about it.
Ive smoked. I was a dumbass kid like we all were at one point. Ive even smoked an electric one...and I mean...today. Oddly enough a friend of mine decided to buy one and he left it here for a while. Pushed the button...smoked it. Just curious.
Its like nothing is in there. Just water and some kinda mintish flavor. I felt nothing.
But thats because im not a drug addict. He does feel something.
And the things are expensive. You ca get a couple newports for a dollar in the hood. Someone gets hooked on the electric ones...eventually they will need their drug and get it from some guy with one lit.
Drug addiction is never good. You can compare it to eating right if you like....but if everyone eats right the world is a lot healthier and better off. Everyone gets addicted to drugs....what good could come of it?

Please don't call me a cigarette hater. I used to smoke, and realize that there are all sorts of things killing people, or stripping persons of their natural intuition, unhealthy foods full of chemicals being one of the largest, so an anticigarette crusade at this point in time is rather futile in the larger scheme of things IMO. I agree that nicotine vapor, and tobacco are two different animals. My posts have been about addiction, and why are people so disconnected from there own abilities to be great, without having to abuse or overuse all the substances being thrown at us left and right. I never said to deny yourself of pleasure. I was making the point that if you are constantly seeking pleasure through repetitive action, or in this case repetitively using a chemical substance to enhance your brain power, you may be out of touch with your true self, and what it's really like to be alive. You mention playing basketball, and that is a good example of something where you can naturally attain a higher feeling. As long as your doing it for the right reasons, and not knowingly destroying your body or life while playing. If it comes to point where the activity has broken you down to where it is messing up your life, or you need knee replacements, and you still can't quit then that might be a problem. The fact you said playing in the "summer" is telling, because most addictions are not seasonal. In conclusion I feel everybody has free will to do whatever they want to themselves. If they choose to use nicotine, marijuana, alcohol, cocaine, play video games, workout all the time, there can definitely be some positives along with negatives, and it is up the person to listen to their inner self to guide them to what is right.
