View Full Version : How Tall is Tim Duncan?

I always wondered how he was so dominate and I realized that height doesn't get enough credit. He is listed at 6 ft 11. But he can't fool anybody anymore. I think he is 7 ft 1. He looked taller than Bogut. Definitely was taller than Biedrins. Tim Duncan is taller than most guys that list themselves at 7 feet. With Asik, it's hard to tell because Asik has big hair, so hard to tell how tall he stacks up against him. There was a Kevin Garnett and Tim Duncan height comparison pic. Garnett's eyes and mouth was higher, but Duncan had a much bigger head, so it was hard to tell who won that battle.
But all I'm saying is that this Duncan guy lists himself at 6 ft 11 so that he can get labeled as the best power forward to ever play. The guy doesn't look long when you just look at his body alone. But when he stands next to others, you usually notice how much higher his head is than everyone else's. What is his exact height? Is he a legit 7 ft 1 in sneakers? I bet in real life he looks like a freak.

Good job of posting those pictures. They don't actually reveal anything. Especially not the one with Dirk in it. You have no idea where Duncan is standing.
To answer the quality and not at all unnecessary OP, it would seem fair to suggest Duncan is say a half inch shorter than KG, who is probably just over 7'.

That's the joke. It doesn't matter how tall he is. Not one single person will think different of him if his height isn't exactly what it's listed as.

Yes he is 6'11. The issue is that most of the people who list themselves as 7footers really aren't that tall.
Allow me to pull back the curtain.
Jordan is 6'4
Dwight is 6'9
Melo is 6'6
Chris paul is 5'11
Kevin love is 6'8
Spencer hawes is 6'10
Nash is 6'1
Magic is 6'7
lebron is 6'7 (Not 100% on this one since he was so young when measured)
90% of all nba players fudge their height. There are a few who are listed at their real height. Shaq, Durant, Garnett Duncan,

Magic is more like 6'5" but yeah, you're righty although the players aren't the ones fudging their heights , it's the league or the team. It starts in high school and goes from there.

This. Duncan was listed at 7'0" for a good chunk of his career, mostly during the twin tower years with Robinson. Many NBA players are listed in shoes or flat out lie about their heights so Duncan is a legit 7 footer by NBA standards which is why the OP thinks he looks taller than listed. With that being said, it's not like you can really tell the difference between 6'11" and 7'0", and considering Duncan's long arms it's really a negligible difference.

Duncan isn't 7 foot. It sounded better with Robinson so they could be the "Twin Towers." Same with Hakeem and Ralph Sampson.
Not sure what it has to do with how well they play basketball though.

This reminds me. Has anyone else noticed that everytime Lebron get's talked about in the Media they say he's a little bit taller and a little bit heavier. I literally hear people say he's 6'9 270 now and "The exact same size as Karl malone"... Are you effing high? If we keep letting this go by the time he retires The media will be saying he's 8'10 12,000 lbs

LeBron was measured at 6'7.25" as an 18 yrs.old NBA Rookie. I think he's now a legit 6'8". (69.25" while wearing his latest shoes.)

It's certainly possible although just as an anecdote I think it's fair to point out that that is the most common excuse nba players give for their difference in draft measurement height and their listed height and it's almost never true... Paul George stands out as solitary example. I personally stopped growing when I was 16 and nobody I know ever grew past 18. It can happen for sure, but it's pretty uncommon.
That said he doesn't look taller at all to me. Definitely bulkier but the claims of 260-270 lbs seem like an exaggeration. Blake Griffin is listed at 251 and even if that's not right it cant be too far off and he's bulkier and taller than lebron.

it's really not that uncommon, it's just NBA players are already exceptionally tall and probably already ready had their growth spurts and will probably stop growing. My doctor once told me boys stop growing up to 21 years old, and seeing how that is around the age the average NBA player enters the league, their draft measurement would probably be their final height.
Paul George had just turned 20 when he was drafted so he still had some time to finish growing if he hadn't already. Same with Dorell Wright, who was 18 when he was drafted.

Lebron is still not taller or as tall as players who were measured 6-7 and 3/4 w/o shoes (like Kevin Love, Tristan Thompson, Carlos Boozer), so if he did grow he probably grew to 6-7.5 (which was Magic Johnson's precise height w/o shoes), so still not quite 6-8

Lebron isn't a legit 6'9", but he might be close to it in shoes, so that's hardly one of the NBA's worst exaggerations, however he does weigh a good 265-270 and has for the past 5 seasons or so.

You see what you did there? I agree that he's better than all of those players. Now, put him up against true centers and the outcome is different: Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Shaquille O'Neal
