View Full Version : If JR doesn't get 6th man of the year its a crime

Dude is balling as the Knicks' 2nd option.

- Only Knick to play all games this season
- Has hit 2 buzzer beating game winners this season
- Has had 14 24+ point games this season
- Averaging a career high in points, rebounding, tying career high in assists per game,

JR is gonna be averaging more points after tonight, & already has higher averages than Crawford in almost every statistic. Sure JR has a higher usage rate, but that's because he plays a slightly bigger role than Crawford does. Crawford also has the advantage of playing with the best PG in the league, where JR mostly creates on most of his shots & doesn't spot up as much as Crawford does.

JR has played pretty good defense. He deserves it more than Crawford. I know crawford is part of a great bench, but all he does is score. I never see him making a pass or playing great defense. JR can pass or rebound and has played pretty good defense too. Crawford outplayed him in the matchups, but 6mofty awards aren't judged by late head to head matchups like rivaling MVPs are.

JR drives me crazy, but for the 6th man of the year? He's sooooo riiiiiiiiiiiiiight

I agree. Sure he's relatively inefficient. But the guy has been the most dependable Knick all season long, 2nd option to Carmelo, and has been relied on in crunch-time in just about every game.

He also consistently contributes in other ways besides scoring, he's been rebounding very effectively, and has shown to be a capable playmaker.

IMO Smith has overtaken Crawford for the award, he plays a much larger role for his team, scores just as much as Crawford (albeit less efficiently), BUT also defends, hustles, rebounds, and creates plays for others.

Though if he doesn't get it, its not a crime, Crawford and Jack are worthy candidates as well...

:oldlol: Crawford's handles blow Smith out of the water. And he's such a better passer he averages .3 more dimes in 4 more minutes.

:oldlol: Remind me how well he defended Crawford?

27 on 12-22 shooting in the first matchup while Crawford held Smith to 6 on 1-9 shooting. Second go, 12 on 5-15 for Craw, but how about a spectacular 17 points for Smith on 4-20 shooting

And back to the major part. 44% vs 40% from the field. 38% vs 34% from three.

To boot, Craw isn't even the second option

.2 more steals, .1 more block with 1.9 more fouls. So there "defense"

People aren't allowed to want a player on their team to win an award now? how does that constitute to being desperate? I guess talking about Miami's stupid streak as if the media isn't shoving down everyone's throats enough would be a more appropriate conversation here.

Steals and blocks tell the whole story.

When it comes to an award that has very little to do with defense, and very much to do with stats, yes it does.

And if you go by DRTG, Smith is 106, Craw is 108, so per 100 possessions, a unit with Crawford as opposed to Smith gives up a whole field goal more.

Opponent PER per48 by position:

Smith gives up a per of 12.9 at SG and 17.0 at SF. Craw gives up 11.2 to SGs and 12.9 to SFs.

But hey, they still have nothing to do with a stat based award but this better defender crap is really

Crawford has been better. He's a much better scorer and if you watch the games you'll see his impact. The Clippers play garbage offense and it's all about him going ISO. He's still shooting 44%. He's better from the field, from 3, from the FT line. J.R. Smith does play good overall defense and he's a good rebounder. He's also a talented playmaker but his shot-jacking has been annoying and is part of why the Knicks are last in assists. Credit to him, he doesn't turn the ball over much.

Jarrett Jack has also been better.

Take Jack off the Warriors, and they may not even be a playoff team. He's had multiple game winning shots, and runs the offense in the 4th quarter.

Crawford is averaging an identical amount of points while playing in 4 fewer minutes, and also on significantly better shooting percentages. This is the best ball J.R. Smith has been playing, but Crawford is more efficient, consistent, and provides more of an impact.

And you can't forget about Jarrett Jack either.

He only has the 2nd leading scorer in the league. For every time Smith wins a game for the Knicks, he'll bounce back with a 5/19 shooting night. Crawford doesn't have those off nights J.R. has.

Really? That's a pretty big indictment of Curry then.

JR Smith plays the PG role as well for the Knicks from time to time. Felton is so bad, and been hurt for long stretches, that he has to. Woodson should have used Prigioni more during the year, but he's too much of a dumbass to do that.

The whole "6th man award" is beyond stupid. So just because JR Smith "comes off the bench" he gets a reward? He plays starters minutes. So do most of the Sixth Men who win. They are really good players, who just happen not be in the starting lineup. It's a dumb award, and they should just get rid of it.
