View Full Version : What if NK truly bombs LA?

There is probably a 98% chance of it not happening, but if it does happen? You have to take into consideration both China and Russia have long range missiles that can hit the US and it is no secret China is supplying NK with weapons.
Hypothetically.
What if the entire Lakers team gets wiped out? What if most of the celebrities we know, movie companies, TV shows, etc. end up getting destroyed?
How crazy is that?
They don't have long range missles, they don't have warheads to put on the missles that work like that, and they've proven in the past to be extremely inaccurate in their launches. Where is this 2%? They'd need to arm a missle and launch it and have the US just whistle and watch and it would need to hit a target thousands of miles away.
China is not arming North Korea with technology to hit the US with missles. Are facts not important? China arming North Korea with smaller arms doesn't enable them to hit LA with a missle.

They, and everyone who tries to aid them, would be completely wiped off the map. This Korea, 'Nam, Middle East shit from the past half century would be laughable compared to the unabated fury that the US would bring down on anyone that even attempted bullshit like that.

PAJU, South Korea (AP) -- North Korea warned Thursday that its military has been cleared to attack the U.S. using "smaller, lighter and diversified" nuclear weapons, while the U.S. said it will strengthen regional protection by deploying a missile defense system to Guam.
Despite the intense rhetoric, analysts do not expect a nuclear attack by North Korea, which knows the move could trigger a destructive, suicidal war. Experts believe Pyongyang does not yet have the ability to launch nuclear-tipped missiles, but its other nuclear capabilities aren't fully known.

Most working celebrities are out of town as not much is filmed in LA anymore.
2% is very generous, the reality is 0.00000000000001%.
It is a silly premise because it will NEVER, and I am saying never (yelling it in fact).
North Korea is a joke and in the last throws of one of the biggest cult of personality/propaganda programs ever. As soon as information starts flowing into NK (and it will as access gets easier and easier) the whole thing crumbles like castles in the sand at high tide.
Reunification with the South and economic liberalization is their only way forward.
Yes, they have a lot of soldiers, but wars aren't fought that way anymore.
Yes, they have nuclear technology, but not at the level where they can use it half way around the world.
Yes, they are nuts, but at the end of the day they know the reality of the situation and are just doing this for attention (read: handouts).
Lil Kim has to come in strong, he is not even thirty and in charge of a Confucian society. If he doesn't let his nuts hang they will take him down, this is simply him appeasing the dinosaurs in the ruling party.
Its a joke, we should all laugh, nothing more.
It's about to go down.

So a missile that can't hit LA is a sign of a possible launch at LA. Any more wisdom you have to share?
The game doesn't work like this. if north korea shot at the US, the US would destroy them, and the Kim's would lose their fiefdom. The point is keeping it. These aren't crazy people lashing out. These are people who have created a little kingdom and are doing a balancing act to keep it. Scenarios that ensure it ending make no sense.
It is more likely Lil Kim wakes up one day and declares North Korea free and goes off to live with his stolen money like a hero somewhere else than he instigates a war that ensures the end of his life and loses everything.

No. What I am saying is sh*t is about to hit the fan. I think it is sad so many think this is all a joke when washington has said they do not fully know NK's nuclear abilities. What is even more sad is here we have a clear and imminent threat and no one is talking about pre-emptive strikes when we were so eager to go into Iraq over filmsy justifications, and a few middle easterners with box cutters can raise the color bar to red, but yet, an aggressive nation with nukes and the largest standing army is being seen as nothing more than a joke played out by the media. Gullible is just not a word being used to describe bladers love life.
NK may or may not attack US military bases in the Pacific (which is an attack on US itself), but to say they are nothing more than a joke is just being incredibly naive. They are currently the biggest threat facing us today. Period.

The second they start an actual war they lose everything. They are not going to move in a way that causes them to lose everything. It makes no sense. The motivation of North Korea is to continue being North Korea, not to be a smoking crater in the ground.
You seem to want the US to go in and start a shooting war, that's awfully nice of you. I'm pretty sure South Korea doesn't want Seoul burning to the ground to fulfill your need to see people dying on the news.

More reasons why I hate arguing with you: you either call out names or throw out straws (oh you just want to see die don't you). No I don't want to see people die, what I am saying is unlike you who are overly obsessed with media sound bites, I don't view NK as merely a "joke."
1. Threatening to bomb the US, SK, Hawaii, Guam, Japan, etc.
2. Cutting off Kaesong communications, canceling a nonaggression pact, putting frontline troops on high alert, restarting their nuclear facilities in Nyongbyon, and moving a missile launch system to the east coast.
#1 is a bluff. #2 is playing a hand. It is ridiculous to still view this as nothing more than an april fool's joke.
Whatever happen to our pre-emptive policies? If it's anything, now is the best time to use it. I mean, the jokes on us if we can't deter a clear and imminent threat. It didn't take much for the majority of the population to use it on Iraq (based on filmsy evidence), but here we have a clear threat, a country with nukes and capabilities to wipe out our military bases in the Pacific, yet we are sitting there with a thumb up our asses doing absolutely nothing AND THEY ARE TAUNTING US. I mean sh*t at least be consistent with our foreign policy.

North Korea poses no immediate thread to US territory. You can't preactively being a huge war that will destroy parts of South Korea, Japan and possible China.
Can you at least be consistent btw? Your basic schtick at the beginning of the other thread was this is a huge thread because of China possibly getting involved, now you want us to start a war.
You're trolling, your point is THERE MUST BE A WAR EVERYONE PANIC and you change your viewpoint to keep that discussion going.

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta on Thursday said he was growing more concerned about North Korea's missile capabilities following its successful launch last month of a long-range space rocket.
"Who the hell knows that they're going to do from day to day," Panetta said in remarks to deployed U.S. forces. "And right now, you know, North Korea just fired a missile. It's an intercontinental ballistic missile, for God sakes. That means they have the capability to strike the United States."
http://www.nti.org/gsn/article/north-korea-seen-deploying-mobile-missile-units-around-country/
I change my percentage: I am now 50% sure NK can hit the US based on further research (something niko needs to do).
IamRAMBO24
04-05-2013, 02:08 PM
Theoretically yes, it's possible. But it's still a ridiculous idea to think that they could successfully launch a long range missile attached with a nuke. You said there's a 98%chance of it not happening. That 2% would be their ability just to pull it off. But the chances of them actually doing it would be far less than 2%.
1. They shot a rocket into space.
2. Two high ranking officials said the following:
"Mr. Gates first told reporters Jan. 11, (2011) during a visit to China that North Korea's progress in building intercontinental ballistic missiles was turning the Pyongyang regime into a "direct threat to the United States."
"Who the hell knows that they're going to do from day to day," Panetta said in remarks to deployed U.S. forces. "And right now, you know, North Korea just fired a missile. It's an intercontinental ballistic missile, for God sakes. That means they have the capability to strike the United States."
Conclusion: I think I'll believe the facts and statements from 2 high ranking secretary of defense over the sound bites played over the media. It is clear to me those who view this as nothing more than a joke don't know what the hell they are talking about.

Do your research before you brush it off so easily. I am at 50% after learning about the KN-08 and their ability to shoot a rocket into space.
The KN-08 has the range of 6,000 km (about the distance from NK to Alaska), but it also has the ability to be mobilized, as evident of NK positioning it in the east coast.
Again, I would rather take the words of Secretary of defense Gates and Panetta (both has gone on record to say these rockets can hit the US) than sound bites by amateurs over the media.

Again, I would rather take the words of Secretary of defense Gates and Panetta (both has gone on record to say these rockets can hit the US) than sound bites by amateurs over the media.
Seriously?
What do you possibly think NK has to gain by attacking the U.S. or South Korea? Absolutely nothing. Their army and regime would be destroyed by US and NATO forces.
You think NK is stupid enough to commit suicide? The NK government is perfectly content in making their people believe shit like this and control every aspect of their lives as well.
If you knew anything about foreign policy, you'd realize that this recent weapons build up is a) for propaganda and b) for the purposes of using carrot and sticks to negotiate with others and be taken more seriously.

Funny how any authority figure is to be distrusted when it suits your paranoiac agenda (i.e Newtown thread), but when it suits you agenda Leon Panetta is the most trustworthy guy on the planet. Pretty funny, huh?
I'm using the same logic and reasoning: the opinions of Gates and Panetta are not getting any attention in the media. You would think if the media wants to be accurate they would use the opinions of both secretary of defense who are authorities on NK.
Both said NK's ability to launch a rocket into space (15,000 km) makes them a direct threat to the security of the US.
Did you even know NK launched a satellite into space? I bet you didn't know that merely going by the sound bites of amateurs over the media. I bet that is the first time you've heard that (thanks to me).
Again, I am displaying a sense of knowledge, research, logic, and reasoning, while you guys are being lazy and just reciting what hear on the headlines of CNN based on the fact this rather huge capability is unknown up until now. Sad.
NK is a serious threat based on this research, and not merely just a joke.

A preemptive strike may result in the destruction of Seoul Korea. It would result in missiles being shot into cities in Japan. I know you're not in either of those countries so you don't give a **** but you don't cause the deaths of thousands upon thousands of people to make you feel better at night.
are you trolling or just that obtuse or is your understanding of the region just very limited? The fact the US attacked other countries doesn't mean we should attack another (or that the other times we preemptively acted were correct).
BTW, is China helping them or not? Because you thought they are, but you want us to attack and engage China?
We have a nation that not only has declared war on the US and its allies, but have issued a direct threat of nuclear attack on American citizens.
I'm just saying this threat should be taken seriously. The declaration is an act of war. We should neutralize the threat before they nuke S. Korea, our allies, and possibly our country.
What do you suggest? For them to nuke S. Korea and all our military bases in that region rendering us vulnerable before we engage? Go read the Art of War. That sounds stupid as f*ck.

they need to either have oil, interest of haliburton, or have tried to attempt to kill a former president whose son has to be current president for us to attack them. Otherwise they could crash a plane into a skyscraper and we'd only go bomb them for a month before forgetting about them and starting a war with Iran because Israel is more important than our people anyway.

You cannot neutralize the situation before South Korea (and specifically Seoul) is destroyed. Engaging North Korea results in massive destruction to Seoul specifically and to places all over South Korea. PERIOD. You cannot engage them without actively deciding that everyone in that city is a possible and acceptable casualty.
You really don't understand the situation. You pretend to but you don't. Yes, he declared war. For about the 4,000 time. OMG, THIS IS THE TIME HE'S SERIOUS!

Getting tired of all these war friendly morons who neither understand the situation or how North Korea is being lead.
Neither North Korea or Iran are threats to the world or the US, both are countries who are lead by horrible regimes and only the civilians in NK and Iran are the one's who are suffering and who will be suffering..

Essentially North Korea is using threats in an effort to keep their regime in power and get favors. It's been this way for 40 years. The US isn't going to (properly) start a huge war because of essentially what is just insulting behavior.
I also don't get this cold war ish mentallity thinking we are on one side and china is on the other. China doesn't want North Korea starting a war with the US, or South Korea. The end result of the war will be a US sponsored proxy state on the doorstep and the economy of the whole region being destroyed. Essentially China's keeping North Korea in check will have failed spectacularly and the US had to save the day (at the cost of a huge number of lives).
No war is coming. Nor should it. Let North Korea implode like it will eventually, the world is getting smaller, and all the oppressed people are getting too much information. Once you realize there is something better out there, it makes it difficult to be oppressed and not fight back.
Is that you and your girl in the pic? I assumed you'd be blonder...

The North Koreans are not starving because of Kim Un, they are starving because of sanctions. Sanctions are the biggest anti-people policies ever and rarely are they effective in punishing governments. When you cut off food, exports, finances, etc. you are rendering the country limpless in providing for their own.

Don't worry man. The Fakers will be fine. That lunatic Kim is just bluffing and posturing. He's crazy but not crazy enough to put his people at risk with an all-out war. They have long range missiles but they have about a 99.9999% chance of failure.
China and Russia are not supplying NK with ICBMs. Why would they give those weapons to a lunatic? They'll be shooting themselves in the foot if they do that. China is wary of the North Korean regime and are only keeping them in place because they fear that the US will be on their borders if North Korea falls to the South. The last thing they want is a nuclear war, where there will be no winners, only losers.

If someone does not know all the facts, and they disagree with someone else, don't you think it's stupid they can't spend 2 seconds doing a bit of fact checking?
Things ISH members have said that was wrong:
1. We know everything there needs to know about NK's capabilities (we don't).
2. China will never support NK (they have a defense pact and they are mobilizing troops as we speak)
3. Kim Un is a madman and starving his people (sanctions are starving North Koreans).
4. There are no tunnels in NK (the country has a vast network of tunnels).
5. NK army is as weak as Iraq (they have a 1.1 million standing army with nuclear capabilities)
That's just off the top of my head. People in here are dumb as f*ck. Even when I cite them with proper sources to support my claims, they accuse me of cherry picking to fit an agenda. How can you argue against that?

I understand the media is playing this sound bite (by non-military pundits with no knowledge of NK nonetheless), but what they fail to mention is NK's long range missile test (putting a satellite into space) has been successful, and even the government does not have a clear cut understanding of their capabilities.
In fact, it is because of the success of the satellite launch that Washington imposed new sanctions.

Something pretty interesting.
[quote]
What North Korean intelligence listens to
Officially, the U.S. may be backing down from its well-planned series of information operations designed to show North Korea that it is serious about deterrence and power, lest there be misperceptions that could magnify misunderstandings. This is not a silly telegraphed retreat: The U.S. had no idea, or would not believe, how truly scared Soviet leaders were of a U.S. first strike in 1983, and went ahead with a war games exercise that nearly precipitated World War III.
That said, I doubt that the military deception/special technical operations part of this campaign is over. A group of radio monitoring enthusiasts dutifully log all of the broadcasts on the Air Force's High Frequency Global Communications System. The HFGCS, stood up in 1992, is a reliable, redundant worldwide communications network that allows deployed aircraft to talk with fixed and flying command and control centers. There are 13 base stations across the world, ensuring virtual global coverage with plenty of overlap. The frequencies are published openly; the broadcasts are analog (although a digital transition is coming) and in the clear because secure telephones and secure HF radio networks don't work well together yet. The HFGCS is one of several Department of Defense communication systems that broadcast Force Direction Messages (FDMs), which consist of priority coded orders, and emergency action messages, or EAMs, which generally consisted of groups of letters and numbers, coded instructions to special units, deployed strategic (nuclear) fighters, and authentication messages between command posts (like the National Airborne Operations Center) and the TACAMO planes that communicate with submarines. Often, these units will use the HFGCS to request information, ingest e-mail and tactical data, contact other units on different communication systems, and to practice for the day that the end of the world comes.
The HFCGS is also monitored by the bad guys, including, of course, North Korea. Their intelligence agencies are on the alert for anything that indicates a different pattern of communication, even if they aren't able to decipher the specific EAMs. But they're also listening in case, say, a U-2 spy plane accidentally gives away its location, or bomber pilots say things like "weapons are authorized."
[B]Actually, according to several of those hobbyists, the U.S Air Force and the U.S. Strategic Command have started to use a new format for their EAMs, just as the crisis with North Korea heated up. Generally, EAMs to nuclear forces are short, consisting of 30 characters often divided into four or five blocks. Thrice daily, test EAMs are sent out. Every day, the call-sign for the airborne command posts change. (Today, one of the TACAMO planes was "ESTIMATE.") In recent days, the EAMs have included a preamble, as well as a "character count," a way for those receiving the messages to know for sure exactly how many characters they're supposed to receive. In theory, the preambles refer to a specific action or mechanism.
This seems complicated, and I don't fully understand it all, but that may be the point. If you're North Korea, you'll notice that your main adversary is no longer communicating with its nuclear forces in the same way. This suggests that something is up. What that something is may well be nothing

They've been doing things like this forever. Because you want to ignore it doesn't make it true. They attacked a japanese ship when i was first there, which is about 15 years ago now. They had incidents (skirmishes) shooting live artillery back and forth with South Korea for decades. A few years ago they were shooting missiles over Japan. Not positioning. SHOOTING. List wasn't complete:
4. Ended the truce pact that ended the Korean war.
5. Made a declaration of war.
6. Cut all communications, including negotiation hotline, and blockaded the Kaesong industrial region, which brings in 2 billion annually and is a huge aspect of their economy.
Hey they might be bluffing and I could be wrong, but at least I'm exercising the idea it could happen; you are dead set a war won't break out when troops and weapons are being mobolized, a truce pact has been forfeited, and a declaration of war has been made.
Better be safe than sorry. If I'm wrong I will gladly admit it. I was never good at poker. You don't have to be such a childish d*cktard. Just here to have a fun discussion; there is no need to get mad n sh*t.

So they've ended the truce pact before? Y'know that precious pact that says there is a cease fire between South and North. That's a pretty big deal; I understand they've committed terrorist acts, including the take down of an airliner, but these new strings of action sounds more like an act of war than terrorism.

Sanctions actually hurt the people and economy moreso than the government because they usually find skirmishes around it while the people suffer. You can see evidences of this with Saddam and Fidel Castro, so it is easy to say the dictators are living lavishly while the people are suffering, but that is a deceptive line of reasoning because it really is the sanctions that are holding a nation's economy hostage from trade, food, and finances.

Lifting sanctions isn't going to mean that the economy and people's lives are going to get better. You know why? Because all that "trade/food/commerce" that North Korea would gain from lifted sanctions goes to one place: their military. "Songun" policy is what they call it, military first above all else. There is a BIG reason why despite the tons of international aid North Korea received in the 90s, there was still a huge famine that killed millions of their population and stunted their youth. Because their system blows.
These sanctions do not affect most of their population as much as you'd think. For example, one of the limits recently enacted after the 3rd nuclear test was a ban on imported luxury goods... goods that are usually only used by the elite, some of the military and many in the Korean Workers Party. Why would the other 95% of NK need luxury goods when North Korea looks like this:
http://www.globalsecurity.org/wmd/world/dprk/images/dprk-dmsp-dark.jpg
The only way they are going to ever raise the standard of living for their civilians is through market reform, not some failed "Juche" policy or some "international aid".
In all honesty, I welcome these sanctions with open arms. It is basically telling North Korea that they can't threaten anyone to give them "aid" in order to keep their failing regime above water. Which is why they are posturing extremely hard right now, like a 5-year old kid that really wants that GI joe or else he's gonna hold his breath till his face turns blue.
