Nikka, you have hated on Kobe your entire tenure here as phoenix18, PowerGlove, etc. Come on now ...

:oldlol:

It's been years since Kobe's had a 50 point game. I know he hasn't had one in 2013, 2012, or 2011. He might not have even had one in 2010. I forget.

No, this is the first time I've seen you geek out about him. Never before. You have a complex relationship with understanding and grasping that players that existed before you were even swimming in your dad's balls were legit, and of the caliber or better than some of, if not all the guy's you see on your screen today. With the exception of maybe LeBron, and when he's ballin ... Kobe.

I know the game. I respect the greats of each era. I just don't live in a world where they cannot be challenged by the contemporary players of today. You're very shortsighted in terms of projecting how great today's players are and that is fine.

Nah man, admit it ... you flat out hate on older players. I have seen you make stupid generational arguments all the time.

Not really. I'm very knowledgeable and sober about ranking players as I've seen them. I claimed in 2010 LeBron had surpassed Magic in terms of performance. And I was crucified. All that's left to catch up is his resume in regards to rings and it's legit. On longevity terms he will surpass Bird, too.

Kobe is quite easily the 2nd greatest SG of all-time. Wade probably the 4th best SG of all-time.

How does that make me short sighted? I just know for a fact I haven't seen someone better yet than MJ from '90 - '93 / '96.

I will PM you though to catch up with you, bro.

Just2McFly
04-10-2013, 11:36 PM
I think the most "controversial" argument I've ever put up against older players was when I was shocked that people didn't think Shaq's peak was as good as Jordan's.

Maybe I'm blissfully unaware of my bias against past players.:confusedshrug:

1. Guy started to decline then suddenly started on an incline almost back to his athleticism of age 25

2. Has more endurance than he ever had

3. Healed from a 4-6 week ankle injury in a week

4. Has shown no signs of wear and tear that an older player would normally show

5. Is known for having nagging injuries every season...now suddenly he has no nagging aches and pains and can play 48 minutes a game without blinking an eye

Does anybody actually think Kobe isn't juicing ?

So I'm the only on who sees this ?

You are delusional if you don't think Kobe has declined from even a year ago.

He is worse than ever in terms of his quickness and defensive ability.

The difference is that Kobe exerts more energy offensively to lower tier teams like the Blazers so that he can still give fans a false illusion that he is still a legit superstar in the league. There's a reason LA is an 8th seed team....They can't win games vs anyone good because Kobe can't play vs real defenses.

Lets look at Kobes stats this year vs the top ten defensive clubs...

24.9 PPG 42.1% shooting and 4.9 turnovers per game

compared to his yearly average of 27.0 PPG, 46.2%shooting, and 3.7 turnovers per game. The guy pads his stats on the irrelevant clubs. LA is 15-26 vs playoff teams this year compared to 27-12 to the irrelevant clubs.

No player in history has gotten more unfair criticizim, bogus accusations and just flat out hate then Kobe Bryant. People just can't respect him for what he is able to do. People can't just recognize greatness and give credit where credit is deserved. This is why I rarely come here anymore.

If Lebron or whoever has a monster game I don't feel the need to come here hijack 20 threads and try to downplay what he did. Just because Lebron or Jordan or whoever is great doesn't mean that my favorite player (Kobe) isn't great. That kind of shit is petty and it reeks of insecurity. All you salty, jealous-ass haters (and you know who you are) FOAD.

His legs are going to be FRIED come playoff time. Then all those injuries for the players... Just don't see how their going to be any sort of a factor. I know it was a long shot to begin with, but the coaching for this team has been horrible.

This is where you show that you are not a Lakers fan, and you obviously haven't been following the team closely. Kobe has been dealing with numerous issues this season as well. He sprained his right elbow in February, has had a bad right shoulder and lately has been dealing with a sprained ankle and bone spurs in his left ankle.

Plus, if you can't see that Kobe is totally winded at the end of games nowadays, then you didn't see him play in his younger days. Dude is nearly falling over sometimes. A few games back, he was so out of breath, he couldn't stand up during the postgame interview.

If this is natural, it's boosting my opinion of him as an all time great. You could make the case that he has the longest peak and prime of any player in history.

I'm not trying to start a heated debate, but I think I have to put him ahead of the Magic/Bird/Duncan group now. For me, he's playing at an elite level SEVENTEEN YEARS IN and he's been playing at an elite level since 2000. It's 2013.

From last night's game

Passing as in "Here you go, do something" is different than setting up a play, getting them open, creating plays for them.... he was able to do that last few games, this game its Kobe just being good old Kobe.... shoot/score... if it wins them the game thats great, but please dont tell me he is "carrying scrubs"... its not like they are playing bad, they are just not used much enough... For one individual 17 FGA with 10 FTA at the HALF is a ridicilous amount of offensive possessions trying to score... not pass/use teammates...

Glad you appreciated Kobe's performance, though. You just have a weird way of showing it, I guess.

He's far past his prime but still an elite player. I'd say his peak was about 3 years as well, from 2006 - 2008. But you're not wrong to put him in that category of player (I personally think he's above Duncan at this point).

I'd probably say Kobe became elite in 01.

What Duncan is doing this year has been really impressive as well. Kobe has been downright amazing offensively this year for his age, but he's rested on defense a lot this year. Duncan is putting up 18/10/3 and playing elite defense. I'd still say Kobe has been better overall, but it's actually pretty close in terms of impact imo.

It's not like duncan is playing 38,5 mpg, and TD has a game off once in a few weeks. Meanwhile, Kobe has to go apeshit crazy just so the lakers could have a chance to get into the playoffs.

What Duncan is doing in those minutes is really impressive. I'd imagine, unless the Spurs blow teams out, that Duncan will play over 35 minutes a game in the playoffs this year.

I'd expect his numbers to go to 20/11/3. I'm really interested to see what happens in the playoffs this year with both the Spurs and Lakers.

How can you be that insecure to find a reason to even attempt to put down Mamba's performance last night? It was clutch, it was efficient, it was epic, he played the game the right way.

Kobe alienated teammates with his disposition, demeanor and leading style. But he also had a coaching change, a crappy replacement coach, countless injuries to all his major co-stars. Howard, still being a shell of his former self without his absurd athleticism.

He's done his best with what he's been dealt. He should've focused more energy on defense this year, but his play has been stellar. 2nd best player in the league @ 34 years old. Keep hating.

The rest of the season is irrelevant. You just go forward with the situation. And he's dragging the Lakers into the playoffs.

Has his leadership, mentality, and defense been ideal all season? No, even the biggest Kobe supporters would admit that ... but you'd have to be an insecure little hoe to not admit his play the past two games with the season on the line hasn't been MAJOR

If they won it all and beat Heat and Kobe Outplayed Lebron in Process. WHile I highly doubt either happens if it did I would be Mad Im sure but I would also give credit where credit was due and I would at least entertain discussion of Kobe as the top Player after dust settled. More realistically if they got past first round the season should be deemed a success.

- so Like dirk did in 2011??....

- so did you think Dirk was better the Lebron in 2011?....he severley out played Lebron....

- you obviously hold the Post season in such high regard....Kobe goes from hardly any credit ( reg season) to alot of credit ( post season)...

- so basically if the Lakers/Kobe make it past the First round...and say Lebron/Heat lose in the First round....according to your criteria...Kobe gets to be labeled as better then Lebron?

got it!....

I think I was just being Honest and it was a worthwhile point. Doesn't leading a team and making them BEtter count for anything. Lebron has not been Below the 3rd best Record in the East for what like 6 years now with 2 different teams.
In the east? that's nothing to be proud of.

2 all-star level bigs whining and complaining about touches after letting 4 rookies score 41 points in the first qtr. :facepalm

They should rename themselves "The Sieves".
