View Full Version : Lakers all but in the playoffs now
All they need is to beat Houston on Wednesday, or have Utah lose in Minnesota tomorrow OR in Memphis on Wednesday. Utah controlled their own destiny, but not anymore.

but OKC in first round is not good news. Chances or how do they get to play the spurs?

Hope for the 7 seed. I think it's very realistic that GS falls to the 8. That not only keeps them away from OKC in the first round, but puts them on the other side of the West bracket (they'd play the winner of Denver-Houston in the second round).

OKC clinches #1 seed with win or Spurs loss. Golden State's next win means Lakers can't get to 7th. Lakers need a miracle themselves not to play OKC.

If GS loses their last two vs the Spurs & at Portland.
And if Houston looses tomorrow in PHX we control our destiny when we play them on Wednesday...

Jazz should have lost to MIN the first time, Al Jeff won't have a lucky game again they should lose that one.

GS needs to lose out - against SAS tomorrow and Portland on Wednesday. Not too sure on those chances but if that happened it might be a saving grace for LAL.

Or Houston losing @ Phoenix tomorrow. Second leg of a road back-to-back but the Suns suck.

Yep. Lakers have tiebreaker on GS, but GS's next win means the Lakers are 8th(assuming they don't lose to Houston and Utah winning their last 2).

On the Lakers, yes.

OKC only have the Kings and Bucks games left, so they should stay the 1 seed. Lakers have nothing to lose, so I could see them rallying to take a game or two, but that's about it. I think with Kobe they could have possibly upset the Spurs, especially with Tony Parker still not 100%.

GS isn't losing to SA tomorrow. Bank on that, they're gonna make a statement.

Doubt this will happen - HOU is a young team, they won't be tired. Phoenix also sucks. But if Houston did lose out then they would be 8th and LAL would be 7th.

Biggest problem is beating the same team in back to games is tough. Memphis looks like they might have something to play for in the final game too.

They'll almost certainly be fighting for home court.

Could go either way since both Houston and Memphis have something to play for as they want a higher seeding. I think Utah will beat Minnesota then everything will go to the last game of the season.

The Lakers may make the playoffs, but the reality was, even with a healthy Kobe they would have been a longshot to make it as far as the second round.

We get Spurs tomorrow when they are coming off a back-to-back and probably won't play Parker or Duncan. Then we get Portland on Wednesday, who will also be coming off a back-to-back against the Clippers.
I'm actually hoping we win one, lose one... because I would rather play the Spurs then the Nuggets right now.

It's a shame, simply because of the way the ref have been calling it. I don't care even if it was the Knicks, integrity of the game > than money. All to just lose in the first round.

Even if Houston beats the Lakers, you're going to tell me a 12-27 road team is going to win 2 straight on the road with 1 of them being in Memphis?

Not sure, but if GS wins, they lock 7th seed, leaving OKC for Lakers.
Houston i remember have to lose 2.
Only to be eliminated by the Spurs in a few games. Aww... :(

Well they've been playing a lot better on the road but winning at Memphis is a long shot if Memphis is playing for something. Anyone no who has the tiebreaker between them and Denver and LAC?

Looks like Memphis doesn't own the tiebreakers andwill be playing to win not knowing the fate of the other two until later in the evening.

Both teams have tiebreaker on the Grizz. Denver has tiebreaker on the Clippers. If there's a 3 way tie, it goes Nuggets-Clippers-Grizzlies.

They can get to 4th if they beat Utah and the Clippers split their last 2.

The Memphis Grizzlies (55-26) host the Utah Jazz (43-38) on Wednesday prior to the Lakers' battle against the Rockets. A Memphis win would guarantee L.A. no worse than the eighth spot in the playoffs. Has Lakers forward/center Pau Gasol called his brother, Memphis center Marc Gasol, to ask for a little help against the Jazz? "I told him to please go out there and compete and try to win the game," said Pau. Did he get a positive response? "He said, 'We'll see,' because last night they played the starters 24 minutes. They probably play the same the next game," said the Lakers' forward/center.
Los Angeles Times
Didn't realize that. That certainly increases the Jazz's chances if they rest their starters.

True, but the Grizzlies will not have homecourt advantage in the first round what so ever, because it is locked for the Clippers due to winning their Division.
What that means, is that they are either gonne play vs Clips or Denver away from home, and even in the case they beat this team, they will end up playing OKC with a 99,9% probability, which would be an away first matchup anyways.
So getting the fourth spot does not really bring any advantage to the Grizzlies.

Home court goes by record, not seed. In 2006, the Nuggets were #3 and the Clippers #6, but the Clippers had home court because they had the better record.
