New York Knicks Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations and General Manager Glen Grunwald announced forward/center Rasheed Wallace has retired from playing professional basketball.

“Rasheed has given this team everything he had,” Head Coach Mike Woodson said. “He is a winner, true professional and leader on and off the court. Due to his injury, he will not be available to play for us during the playoffs. We owe this season’s success to veterans like Rasheed.”

Loved Sheeds game, could have at least come back to pick up one more tech foul lol, o well I wish him the best I heard some stories that hes actually a top guy off the court as well, he retired with a ring and he will be known for a long time imo.

Huh? Didn't he just come back from an injury? Did he get injured again in that game?

Wtf, I thought he was suppose to play in their last game?

He had HoF talent and didn't maximize that but still had a good career. One of the few guys that took unselfish play too far but at his peak there's no team that wouldn't have wanted him.

He got hurt again.

I'm disappointed. He looked great to start the year, its a pretty sad way to end your career going out right before the Playoffs. I was hoping he'd be able to play a few more meaningful minutes but it's probably not possible at this point. Very good career nonetheless.

I'm sure it sucks going out on an injury, but he can also rest easy knowing he went until the wheels fell off. He gave it everything he had. Body just won't hold up.

At the very least, you have to believe that the Knicks are worried about whether Tyson Chandler will hold up during the playoffs.

not a good feeling man

They should sub him in just so he can get ejected one more time. Just stand on the court and yell 'Ball don't lie' until they kick him out.

*sigh* Sheed was easily my favorite Knick this season. Was really looking forward to having him in the playoffs, but I guess it just wasn't meant to be.

Sheeeeeeeeeed.

If you line up the TOTAL PACKAGE of skills on both sides of the ball, Sheed doesn't have to take a backseat to damn near anybody amongst PF's. Sure u got KG and Timmy. But Sheed could flat stroke it from three, so much so he had stretch PF capabilities. But yet Sheed was very good-great defensively and could defend three positions. Sheed, KG, and Timmy all redefined PF and frankly were more well rounded total package wise than the other great PF's. Sheed combined elements of Duncan, Dirk, and KG all into one SICK! But he wasn't as dominant as those three and thus all three were CLEARLY better players and true HOFers. Sheed on the other hand had the talent to actually be on par, hell POSSIBLY BETTER than all three, but didn't apply it to get to that level. Thus missing out on the HOF. True case of a player that was TOO UNSELFISH when it came to individual accolades. It's really the only thing that held Sheed back from that true HOF level.

My favorite Solomon Jones moment was him dribbling further and further from the hoop because he was afraid to pass the ball, and he still threw it away.
