That's a pretty good ratio of personal dominance to team accomplishments, especially at age 28. If Bron gets finals MVP this year, that'd be one more than Wilt

It's interesting because it just goes to show that basketball is the kind of sport where someone who is clearly head n shoulders above everyone else can dominate for a significant stretch of years consecutively. Unlike in baseball where even the best players dont necessarily have 3 or 4 mvp caliber seasons in a row, or football where there is just too many other variables... despite being a team game, basketball allows for consistently dominant performance.

To me, because I basically rank players based on ability at their peak, Lebron is somewhere 4-6. I believe Shaq is the most purely dominant basketball player ever. After that I think from an all-around impact standpoint you have to take bigs like Kareem and Hakeem. Then it becomes a debate if you prefer Lebron, Magic, Michael, Larry. Duncan in there somewhere too, as is frankly Rodman. I personally dont have enough info on guys like Wilt and Russell to rank them. But if you take team achievement out of the equation (which is the dumb fan's arguments) you are looking at a tiny list of guys who are in the discussion with Lebron for overall impact.

Kobe, because he's a volume scorer with no D and plays selfishly and frequently to a counterproductive effect, is way down the list. Because he has five rings I do have him somewhere around Fisher and Horry, but not quite as high as Iverson because to me rings are an overrated measurement.

Disingenuous, as it didn't exist until '69, and thus Wilt couldn't win it in '67.

So worst case scenario is Bron wins the 'ship and he's tied with Chamberlain with 4 MVPs and leading his team to 2 championships... at age 28.

Finals MVP really don't mean anything tho.

Jason Terry had a brilliant finals, they gave it to Dirk bc hes the bigger star.
Pau had a brilliant finals, they gave it to Kobe bc he's the bigger star.
Ginobili had a brilliant finals, they gave it to Duncan bc he's the bigger star.

And so forth. Not that Dirk and Duncan weren't worthy or anything when they won them, but it's essentially a measure of popularity. A finals MVP doesn't tell you anything about the actual series other than which team won and who their most recognizable name was. Plus its only 1 series out of an entire playoffs. To me people put too much weight in that to make judgments and ranking.

Shame during MJ's era players started getting hosed due to narrative, campaigning, voter fatigue, and player campaigning ...

MJ should've been MVP in '89, '90, '91, '92, '93, '96, '97, '98 ... that's a legit 8x MVP. That's not even including his '88 MVP as well. So more like 9x MVP. Insane. Stupid voters.

LeBron will most certainly win MVP #4 this year. And if the post-season goes as anything like the regular season, he will add ring #2 and FMVP #2, as well.

And, barring injury, he should have at least 3-4 more seasons, and likely more, in which he will contend for more of them.

Sorry LeBron-bashers, but the man will likely be among the top-5 greatest players of all-time, and who knows how much higher. In any case, we are witnessing something very special.

Yeah bigtime.
And one of the best things of all about that fact is, LeBron's style of play is nothing like Jordan's.... who was nothing like Kareem.... who was nothing like Chamberlain.... to me those 3 guys are the best I've ever seen..... if Lebron James continues like he has, he will be only the 4th man to enter the ring.

[INDENT]LeBron to win 4th MVP award

By Michael Wallace | ESPN.com

MIAMI -- The worst-kept secret among NBA award recipients will be formally revealed Sunday when Miami Heat star LeBron James is named Most Valuable Player for the fourth time, league sources confirmed Friday.

James has been voted MVP for the second straight season and for the fourth time in the past five years. He'll join Michael Jordan, Bill Russell, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Wilt Chamberlain with at least four MVP awards.

The only suspense remaining is in the final tally and how far James has distanced himself in the voting from other candidates this season that include Oklahoma City's Kevin Durant and Chris Paul of the Los Angeles Clippers.

Steve Mitchell/USA TODAY Sports
LeBron James will be named NBA MVP for the second straight season and fourth time overall, according to sources.
The Heat are scheduling an awards presentation Sunday, and James will also be presented the MVP trophy by NBA commissioner David Stern at AmericanAirlines Arena at the start of their second-round series next week in Miami.

The Heat, who have been idle for a week, swept their first-round playoff series against Milwaukee and will face either Chicago or Brooklyn in the conference semifinals, starting Monday. The Bulls and Nets play Game 7 of their first-round series Saturday in Brooklyn.

In anticipating of the award, James has said for weeks that he would be honored to be mentioned alongside Jordan, Chamberlain, Jabbar and Russell in MVP recognition. But James said Friday that he's more focused on the playoffs and helping the Heat defend their title from last season.

"He's earned it," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said of James after Friday's practice. "He's having an even more historic season than he's had the last two years. Most people probably didn't think he could go to a higher level after last season, yet he reinvented himself to show that he could. Our pinch-ourselves moment was when we signed him. But since we've had him, we don't take him for granted."

James averaged 26.8 points, 8.0 rebounds, 7.3 assists, 1.7 steals and one block in 76 games during his 10th season in the league. He shot career-best percentages from the field (.565) and 3-point range (.406) and ranked in the top 10 in scoring, assists, steals and field-goal percentage among those who have played in at least 70 games this season.

Last week, James also finished second in Defensive Player of the Year voting for the second time since 2009. He led the Heat to a franchise-best 66-16 finish, which included the best home record in team history and a 27-game win streak that was second-longest in NBA history behind the 33-game streak set by the 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers.

Heat center Chris Bosh said after the season James has had, he can't imagine his teammate being anything other than a unanimous selection on the 120 first-place ballots submitted by media members and NBA broadcast analysts.

"I don't know who else you'd vote for no offense to nobody else, with all due respect," Bosh said in support of James. "But that's just how good he's played this year."

Jabbar leads all players as a six-time MVP, and Russell is the only other to win the award four times over five years.

James, 28, will be the youngest in NBA history to hoist his fourth trophy, although Jabbar won five by the age of 30.

This is one of the most retarded things to ever happen in sports history.

"Oh.. we know he's the best, it's redundant. Let's just give it to somebody else to be fair."

Wow...to be part of that club is quite an accomplishment. Welcome to the club, LeBron

He definitely deserved it. He had a historically great season. Completely dominated the league. I don't know if I want to put him in the Top 10 GOAT list yet or if I should wait to see if he gets another chip.

Extremely impressive. And I don't think any of his MVPs can be disputed either. Bron's a once in a generation type talent with his mix of athleticisim/size/handles/vision and passing ability, and I can't imagine there ever being another player quite like him.
