i dont like it when he is still jacking shots even tho he is 3-12... but then he hits the next 5 shots. i guess if he didnt continue jacking, he couldnt make 5 in a row :oldlol:

you don't want THIS jason kidd to continue shooting with that bad percentage....you want melo to find his rhythm. like he said he's not worried about his percentage cause he knows he'll get it going.

He kinda did last year in the 1st round, he just had no help to make it a series. If Amare doesn't punch a fire extinguisher that series might've gone to at least 6 games.

Back to the point though, Melo is balling at an unreal level right now. He's dropping 30 like its nothing these days.

Nobody can stop Melo when he is hot. LeBron is a good defender, but he can only try to slow him down. It doesn't matter if he scores 40 points, it will come down to if he makes the big shots in crunch time against Miami.

Lol, LeBron sh*ts on Melo defensively. Didn't he hold him to like sub 35% shooting in the last year's playoffs. I also remember Melo dissapearing in the in MSG during the streak when LeBron switched on him.

Aside from his defense, his offensive skill set is comparable to no one. I don't think he has any flaws. Truly a master with the ball.

I guess in this day and age you can't talk about a player having a certain set of skills, or even being a fun player to watch, without their being compared to a different player with a completely different set of skills. It's like ESPN and mainstream media have constructed this false reality where there can be only 1 great basketball player at a time, and the entire NBA is just a platform for individual players to dethrone one another. This is clearly ****ing stupid.

Comparison of players feeds from and leads into the needs of a lot of fans to make a judgement on which player is better. We've now gone from an appreciation of 1 player for the qualities that make that player special - to two sides of a discussion which compares that player to another player (who some people feel the need to claim is better). Then they reach into their deep bag of stats and rhetoric, all of which is completely biased (you can always find statistics and game results to support your point, using statistics this way is NOT HARD), and set up camp firmly on opposing sides. SO ****ING STUPID.

Of Course - Carmelo vs Lebron is a matchup people have enjoyed watching, one I have enjoyed watching, and one I hope to be able to witness in the coming weeks. But for God's sake, don't completely ignore the fact that they play on TEAMS! You can't just pit players against each other statistically without acknowledging the context of the teams they play for! Their stats don't just exist in a vacuum - they look the way they do because a player is asked to fulfill a certain role on a certain team. for EVERY SINGLE ONE of these players, the goal is to WIN. THE. GAME.

If LeBron doesn't spend a single second of a Knicks-Heat playoff series guarding Melo, and the Heat win, there will be nothing to be said about LeBron being "scared" to guard him or any such bullshit except that there are butthurt Knicks fans. If Melo jacks up 40 shots a game, and the Knicks win, there is no merit to the argument that another player is better because he could score just as many points more efficiently. Anyone who says there is can go fist themself.

No player gives a shit about who is better than who. The only thing that matters is helping lead your team to the W.

No player cares who is better than who. Why should we? More importantly, how can we? SHORT ANSWER: WE CAN'T!

Before I work myself into too long-winded of a rant against "Stan" psychology, let me mention how impressed I am by this thread and how most of the comments are positive and stay on topic. Of course, it got derailed, and bears the distinct flavor of a discussion quickly turning into a pissing contest, but let's step back. (pun intended)

If the Knicks and the Heat meet in the ECF, stans will be sharpening their retorts like nothing we've seen before. New Yorkers have been waiting decades to hold some semblance of NBA superiority over others, especially hated Eastern Conference rivals, and entire legions of Melo stans are waiting to come out of the woodwork. If we win, it's going to give us all a terrible reputation.

Meanwhile, Heat fans have a terrible reputation...

yeah, that might mean posting paragraphs of shit that someone will just say "tl;dr" but imo thats a good thing - separating NBA fans, people who are on this board to engage in discussion about the NBA, from trolls and inadvertent trolls who are actually just uninformed and ig'nant.

Yeah, Mello does what he is supposed to do. He may not be the most efficient, but he's totally effective in Mike Woodson's scheme of things. He is deadly from every part of the floor and keeps the pressure on so that the shooters and penetrators can do their thing. Then little Mello, or Mello JR, comes in and does the same. They both have great moves and use their combination of strength, athleticism, creativity, agility and moves as good as anybody in the league to do their job. And they are as entertaining as any two players to watch on that end of the court.
