You face a real decision here. Because - depending on the extent of the injury he will be able to be back. But this is a young team....and this is a injury that won't hinder him in the future if given time to heal.

So it's rush him back and risk it or wait for next year.

I think he'll go for the latter and the Thunder organization will try to make him go for the former.

You're rigiht, he did, but Westbrook means a lot more to the Thunder than Bosh does to the Heat. Reggie Jackson will step up in a big way.

OKC beats LA with or without Westbrook. Book that.

04-26-2013, 12:59 PM
I'm gonna go out on a limb & say that OKC won't miss Westbrook as much as they think they will. I think they can still make it to the WCF but Durant will have to be dropping 35-40 like Melo has been for the past month 1/2.

This is actually gonna be really interesting, can't wait to see who steps up for them. Jackson has potential. Plus this makes trading away Eric Maynor for nothing pretty dumb.

Maybe Westbrook has a Ron Artest-ish recovery?

Depends on where the meniscus tear is. It's wedge-shaped, somehwat similar to a slice of pie. If the injury occurs in the "crust" area, those injuries are the easiest to recover from. If the injury occurs at the thinner part of the meniscus, those are the ones that are the toughest to make a timely bounceback from.

No doubt. Just pointing out to that poster that although they havent had that major injury this year, they didnt have that fortune during the playoffs the previous season. That injury also happened to be a blessing in disguise for them since it forced them to play small ball.

This is true, LeBron played most of his career without a top 10 player and was still regarded as the best player at the time. Let's see how Durant does and if he's worthy as the "2nd best player" in the league (I honestly believe this but it's a lot different when there's no legit second option).

it depends what his swelling is like right after surgery. When there is no swelling in the knee he can begin his rehab. The longer he sits the more intensive the rehab has to be because it will have been a longer time without physical activity.

Ron Artest returned quickly because he had virtually no swelling, which even the doctor admitted is not normal, usually there is some type of swelling. So no one can really predict how quickly he'd be back until after his surgery, it's not as black and white as people make it seem

Unfortunate series of events. Patrick Beverly did nothign wrong tho.

Also, this really isn't that big a deal in all probability. If the Thunder get past the Rockets (it would actually probably benefit them to lose a couple games and extend the series as long as they win it eventually) Westbrook may actually be back by the next round. It's not like you're "never the same" after a meniscus tear. You can pretty much come back quickly and effectively. But again the question is can they hold off the Rockets without Chuckbrick? If so they'll be ok. If not then the injury obviously becomes their downfall.

I tore a meniscus playing soccer back in high school and while you can finish the game because the adrenaline and movement keeps it from swelling immediately, it does lock up after the game.

But the truth is you really DO NOT need surgery for a meniscus tear. It will heal on its own, fairly quickly. But doctors will recommend the surgery every time because it puts three grand in their pockets for doing an operation which takes a couple hours. And the average person has no idea about it and just trusts what the doctor recommends.

People are naive enough to believe doctors are any different than mechanics or contractors. They're out for the dough just the same. Your ignorance is their next trip to Oahu

going for a retarded steal when GOATbrook wants to call a time out.

Bullshit play from a bullshit scrub player.
A Kobesexual mad that a team that threatens the Heat's chances to win a title, has been weakened.

Sad bunch Kobe fans are nowadays.

It was a savvy move, many players go for a the steal. Offensive players even sneak in lay-ups faking a timeout. Clean play.

Kednrick Perkins approves.

Scrub players don't put up 16 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals vs an elite team.

Appears to be mostly limited to ball-dominating back-court players:
Rose, Kobe, Westbrook, Rondo

Which is unsurprising given their energetic styles of play.

guys like you are so ignorant and insulting. you are basically insulting clippers, spurs and knicks. go **** yourself. when spurs are out, you can say whatever you want. till then respect them.

Lmao chill April-born. That's honestly how I feel, and I know I'm not in the lone here. I don't think any of those teams have a solid chance against Miami in best of seven. I WANT them to win, heck Spurs are one of the teams I respect the most in the league... but I don't think it's going to happen.

Relax young'in, it's just an opinion.

Nah they're wing players built like bulls. Durant on the other hand could possibly fit the bill - though he often manages to float around contact pretty well.

Add Wade to the list... he's actually getting treatment on his knee as we speak.

Except Westbrook's was a freak injury that had absolutely zero to do with his style of play or actual play on the court. He was slowly dribbling up the sideline to the timeline to call a timeout, and Beverly made a reckless play to go for the steal as the timeout was being called. Not implying the play was dirty, it was just unnecessary and reckless. It had nothing to do with Westbrook's style of play because it didn't happen in the flow of the game on one his driving layups or pull-up jumpers.

Lol at OKC fans hating on Beverly who made a play for the ball and almost got the steal. Yet they praise Perkins for his savvy hold on Parsons.

i know right. if the players were switched they would worship westbrook for playing with such emotion and call every other player weak for not matching his emotion on the court

it's just misguided anger

It looked like the exact same type of injury that happened to CP. Paul ran into a cameraman came back to play a little in that game so noone thought it was a big deal and the next thing you know he went from averaging 23/11 to 15.8/9.8.

the heat is already stacked beyond reasonable, and the next team that has a minute chance just got its top 2 player knocked out.

Look for Durant to get a triple double next game. The rockets defense will be even more focused on him, might even switch to a 3-2 zone rather than 2-3 to cover more perimeter players now that Westbrook is out.

Find me one OKC fan who ever praised Perkins for his hold on Parsons. Every OKC fan on here hates Perkins and no one was defending him. What Beverly did was an unnecessary play and a bit reckless. There's no other way to really describe it. It wasn't dirty, it wasn't done intentionally, but it was something that was completely avoidable. Especially since it was fairly obvious Westbrook was going to call a timeout. And yes, I'm aware players do that from time to time trying to sell the timeout, only to fake it and go for a layup.

What Perkins did was bush league and stupid. I nor anyone else has tried to defend what he did. Get that out of your head. But his play didn't lead to a possible season ending injury to a vital piece to the other team. Thus, the two aren't comparable. If it had, though, you'd be getting the same type of reactions out of Rockets fans that you're getting from OKC fans right now. And guess what, I wouldn't be calling Rockets fans out and saying they were wrong. I wouldn't be defending Perkins, nor Ibaka, KD, Collison, etc. if they were the one that had done it.

What kind of tear was CP3's? Was it a lateral tear like Westbrook's? I know CP3 had surgery in the offseason and had to rehab and was on crutches most of the summer.

Honestly, were weren't beating Miami this year anyway. I'd rather Westbrook get the full repair and miss more time and come back healthy, instead of getting the quick fix that would allow him to comeback quicker but potentially cause more permanent damage.

I think that OKC will put in Martin in the first 5 now, it would make perfect sense.
