View Full Version : How come Lebron couldn't win with Shaq like Kobe did???

Kobe and Wade won a ring with Shaq. Lebron did not only have Shaq who is a legend dominant big he also had two other All-stars in Jamison & Mo Williams. Kobe only had Shaq and no all-stars during the three peat.

Lebron didn't let shaq use his time machine that he has in his closet. Shaq and Lebron had a deal in place but Jamario Moon threatened to report them to the NBA so they called it off. Jamario Moon wanted their 61 win season to have integrity.

The Shaq that LeBron had in Cleveland was about 10 months away from retiring. He got hurt in the middle of the season and actually hurt Cleveland in the playoffs. They were better with Hickson and Varejao at the five.

Boston ended up killing Cleveland inside with KG and then Rondo destroyed Mo Williams.

Everyone can bash LeBron's game five, but no championship team should crumble that badly if their star player doesn't have it. That Cavs team was completely exposed during that series.

People really don't give Boston enough credit for that. They moved on and dispatched Orlando (another 60 win team) even easier than they did Cleveland.

Shaq only played around half the season in Cleveland and his minutes were shorter than Nate Robinson.

Lebron took them to the finals. He didn't choke, he gave up on the team.

1) He didn't want to win and make other looks good on that team that didn't deserve it
2) He already knew he was going to Miami, it would have been much worst to win and leave

OT (sorta): For which seasons was Shaq still 'MDE Shaq', in your book? Some people have say he was only that guy in 00/01, and on the other side of the spectrum you have people putting him on that level from when he came into the league through the end of his tenure in Miami. What do you guys think?

'00 and '01 were Shaq at his absolute best, more focused from start to finish in 2000, but those 2 years were his best mix of physical dominance, skills and knowledge. I think '02 can be put in there, he was heavier and had more nagging injuries, but with the new defensive rules, the fact he made his free throws at 65% during the playoffs and his impact at both ends, I think he was still close.

I don't use the "MDE" thing myself since I don't think it's particularly good or accurate title, but at the earliest, I guess you could start that period in '98 when his overall individual ability was pretty much as good as it ever was(became a bit more skilled and mature once Phil took over, though slightly less athletic)

Pretty reasonable IMO. If you had to rate his seasons on a 1-10 scale (10 being most impactful), how would it look? I'm not necessarily looking at consistency here, just for your evaluation of his level of play at the end of the season/playoffs (meaning 00,01 would be a 10):

3peat is self explanatory. I loved his play in '98, he dominated Seattle in every facet of the game to the point George Karl and Bob Weiss were calling him the best big man ever. Then vs Utah after a poor game 1 when it was a huge blowout, he was in dominant form the next 3 games, and kept playing until the final buzzer even when the rest of his team had crumbled and appeared to have quit. Ultimately, the highest I can give him is a 9 though because he failed to win with the most talented team in the league, and at least some of that seemed to be due to his leadership being inferior to the 3peat.

I took some points away for injuries and poor playoff performances by his standard. If you have any questions about my rankings for particular years, feel free to ask.

prime shaq vs washed up shaq

seriously? :facepalm

I have no dog in this hunt in this continual Kobe vs. LeBron debate, as I don't care; but this thread is absurd. A 37-year-old Shaq 17 years in the league playing less than 24 minutes a game is being compared to a 27-to-29-year-old Shaq who won three straight Finals MVPs and was getting GOAT talk from some.

Pathetic.

There is no way some of you asking this question are stupid enough to equate 2010 Shaq to the real Shaq.

Never underestimate the extent of human stupidity.

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

But this illustrates exactly what I've talked about in the past:

"Fans" who will use any means necessary in order (including blatant fabrications, falsifications and distorting/twisting/omission of facts) to further their agenda.

These people will stoop to any level in order to further their agenda.
