They said it on TNT. He had surgery today and said he will miss the playoffs.

All these players that wear so much protective gear like Westbrook and Rose's leg guards, just seem to be getting injured. :facepalm

The only silver lining from this is that everyone will now get to watch Kevin Durant's first solo act as a NBA star.

Damn. I hate that he's out because Westbrook is so fun to watch.

Still...

Livens up the West a bit, no? Durant as option 1, 2 and 3 will be very interesting to see. :D

:facepalm That fvckn sucks.

Oh well, gonna be interesting to see what KD can do. His roster is still great. Reggie Jackson will step up and KD should now do what he does best which is look to score more.

Even though we are playing each other, sucks that this is happening. Dude is fun to watch...going to change the outcomes of the West for sure unless Durant goes Dirk 2011 mode.

if he sat out when he first got injured, he might have not torn his ligament so much by continuing to play. then maybe he could have made it back to play in the WCF or Finals.

That definitely seems like the case. He never was hurt before but he knew right away something was wrong but continued anyway. He was the iron man of the league but even he has to listen to himself and slow down when its needed.

as defending western champions with 2nd best player in nba.. yea.. they had a chance. Even if the chance is so small, at least it's better than probably 90% of other teams in the nba.

:confusedshrug: Rather face OKC instead of Spurs/Clippers. Also wouldn't mind seeing KD go 0-2 vs LeBron.

You had already said Heat were going to win and made threads they were going to win. Basically you said what was the point of playing if Heat were going to win.

Obviously I really, really hate this, but understand the decision of repairing it instead of the other option where he might've been able to return in a couple of weeks. Long term it's the best solution. I'm going to sound like a bad fan, but we weren't going to beat the Heat this year anyway if we did get back to the Finals. I'd have liked to have the chance to at least see if we could play them tougher than last year, but we weren't going to beat them 4 times in 7 games.

Hopefully he'll be fully recovered and back to 100% by the start of next season. Just really unfortunate he got hurt on that type of play. That's the hardest thing to stomach. He didn't get hurt coming down wrong after one of his semi-reckless drives to the hole, and he didn't get hurt coming down on someone's foot after jumper. It happened when he was simply bringing the ball into the frontcourt to call a timeout, and that's the hardest thing to get over. I could probably live with the injury (or at least get over it a lot quicker) if it had happened in the actual course of play.

I think this will obviously extend the Rockets series to 6 or 7 games. It'll depend on how fast everyone adjusts. As great as Durant is, having to completely re-work how the team plays on the fly won't be easy. Can't see us beating the Clippers or Grizzlies, though, if we get out of the first round.

Like I'm going to listen to a guy with all those red bars. IT was a reckless play you clown regardless of whether Westbrook did it to Lin or not. If Lin had been out for the entire playoffs because of Westbrook it's still reckless. Now sit down and STFU you piece of trash.

Injuries are a part of the game, so I wouldn't go so far as to say it'll be used as an excuse. But you'd have to at least understand why people won't exactly be singing the Clippers praises if they beat OKC in the second round without Westbrook. Despite how good Durant is, OKC is constructed in a pretty specific way right now, where they heavily rely on both Durant and Westbrook offensively

And it's not like Westbrook is some really good top 15-20 type player. This is arguably one of the 5 best players in the league. It's just not the same team. We just don't have much depth, especially in terms of scoring depth. If we get past the Rockets, I'd expect either of the Clippers or Grizzlies to beat us in no more than 6 games.

It's not a freak accident he ran right into his knee. And you know what who cares if Westbrook did it to Lin. Lin's a scrub and a losing him is inconsequential. Yes I said it so you have something to really get  about.

wouldn't be surprised if he's back if thunder make it to the finals. He isn't going to be able to. If his tear was like Metta's, then yeah. But they found out he has a worse case that takes longer to heal.

They wouldn't know the extent of his injury until the operation. And after the operation today they confirmed that he would miss the rest of the playoffs.

oh, didn't know it was worse then metta's. i just assumed they said he's out of the playoffs for PR reasons. I mean especially an official statement from a team, still playing in the first round, can't be he'll be back for the finals :D

though i always wanted to see what durant can do given full freedom. but since he's kind off obsessed with efficiency i don't think he'll go into mamba mode.

The East is now uncontested for the finals. Ain't no way the Spurs old asses are going to keep up with either the Heat or the Knicks. Maybe Denver, but even that's a stretch.

Really sucks for him and fans of the game.

Opens up the door for a legendary run by Durant though. The Thunder are still one of the best teams on paper even without Westbrook. Getting by the Clippers/Grizzlies and then the Spurs will be tough...but is certainly possible.

Beating the Heat might be impossible though...considering even with Westbrook it's a terrible matchup for them.

Why do people keep saying this about the Spurs? This is silly, that team is not what it was 3 years ago, they've changed their style drastically specifically to beat teams like that. I'll take them over the Knicks EASILY. And Denver? Let's see if they even make it out of the first round before you start saying they are contenders in the West

Respect for this post.

I'm a huge Westbrook fan, it's really upsetting to see him out for the playoffs.

This definitley changes everything, the Thunder go from West favorites to having to fight for their lives just to get out of the second round.

Let's see what Durant can do, it honestly wouldn't surprise me if he goes off like crazy though.

Stop being so sensitive. He injured his foot, he's not dead. It will heal in a few months at the longest.

Houston fans are not happy Westbrook is injured, they're happy that the series is actually winnable now.

Obviously Lebron would be loving this because he doesn't want to win against his best competition. He just wants to win in a way thats easy. He joined Wade and Bosh because he knows winning is all that matters, not who you win against or how you win.

True but let's not be like Lebron stans and try to make everything about Lebron. The Heat might not even play the Thunder and even if they did they'd be favourites against them with Westbrook. Sucks that we miss out on watching one the most electrifying players. Effffff you Beverly
