View Full Version : JR Smith suspended 1 game for Elbow

niko

Essentially he's suspended to send a message to other teams that are not the Knicks. As always, **** U David Stern for the uneven leveling of judgment.

Did JR deserve it? Yes. If it happens again with another player, will it be a suspension? Only maybe. Which is why i repeat **** U DAVID STERN.

Doesn't matter. Celtics have basically zero offense without Rondo. Knicks getting the brooms ready. A sweep is on the horizon.

With a foul like that there is no way to tell whether it was an intentional elbow or just trying to clear space with the forearm. It's probably still a flagrant two either way because its reckless but the slo mo makes it look worse than it was. But given the series is over it made a 1-game a meaningless and easy decision.

Terry literally put his face in JR's elbow. So pretty much JR had no choice but to elbow him. Wasn't it a basketball move? He's trying to clear space.

It was clearly a foul on JR, but it was not even a flagrant, and definitely not suspension worthy. Don't put your face next to other people's elbows is the lesson.....

It's a blessing though. This will hopefully drive down JR's free agency price. :D Who would take a chance on this guy? I certaintly wouldn't.

There's no consistency in the process, no set penalties, it all depends on how they think things are perceived. That dustup with Nate probably got JR suspsended as the league didn't want peopel to think things are out of control.

true. Nate commited an offensive foul for no reason and fouled out after he got bulls back in the game. What do players like JR, MWP and nate think? they really are dumb.

If the NBA thinks they can keep JR down, then the NBA doesn't know Earl J. Smith, Jr.

'Get chicks or die trying'. Now that's commitment, resolve. You can't keep a good man down, especially when he's ready to die for the cause. That's some jihad shit right there.

There are a lot of guys that would get away with such a "foul".

I bet Charles Oakley is shaking his head in disbelief. 20 years ago this would have been a personal foul.

In a funny way this could kind of work out for both the Knicks and Celtics. If the Knicks want to let this go to 5 they can make sure they have JR for every game against Indy and Boston can get a win so KG and Pierce don't cry like ho's for getting swept

Nobody is arguing about der ejection or the flagrant 2 call. And nobody said that Terry flopped. But the suspension is just laughable.

Doubt you do, we use to have gladiators killing each other too should we bring that back? People are smarter and Basketball is not MMA. Playing within the rules and extending careers is what modern day America/Western world is all about. Want to see some deathcage matches go to the 3rd world.

Because it wasn't a "i'm just going to randomly clock Terry in the face" elbow. It was a "I'm going to try to clear space cause Terry is right on top of me" elbow. Same thing as when guys grab a rebound, and then flail their arms trying to ensure the rebound. Somtimes guys get elbowed.

Now, was it purposeful in this case? Probably. JR knew what he was doing. And it should have been a foul. But it shouldn't have been a flagrant. Because it's still a basketball play.....it was almost impossible for JR to move without hitting Terry cause Terry was ridiculously close to him.

JR didn't sell it right. He immediately acted guilty instead of protesting the call. Hence flagrant and suspension.....

niko
04-28-2013, 08:43 AM
Nate grabbed CJ pretty much unprovoked, threw him into the scorers table, and held him down with both arms. THAT did not warrant an ejection. It wasn't a fight only because CJ Watson looked terrified and didn't move.

JR swings an elbow at a player close enough to hit with one. That's an ejection AND a suspension.

There's no logic to the NBA here. And look at this year, the suspensions. Most times a Flagrant 2 ejection does not warrant a suspension because the league doesn't want to punish essentially a second game. NOPE, JR doesn't get that benefit. Why?

If you want to take this in a vaccum then yes it's fine but it's not in a vaccum, and we could have the same situation in the same series and it might not get the same result.

StroShow4
04-28-2013, 08:53 AM
I don't think this warrants a suspension. When you stick your face into an offensive player's area and start swiping at the ball like that you put yourself at risk of the elbows on the rip through. Every experienced basketball player understands this.

albas89
04-28-2013, 09:13 AM
I'm sure Smith was not suspended just for the action of elbowing. He did it clearly on purpose, the rest is just excuses. He took a good look of where Terry's head was and swung right at it.

As Doc said after the game, you're up 20, even if Terry fouled you just let it go. If the Knicks were down 20 what was JR gonna do, kill Terry in cold blood? Such actions are totally unnecessary and don't belong in the NBA...

Anyway, Smith or not the Knicks are still able to finish it off tonight, Celtics are just out of sorts! In case they don't win tonight, they have the chance to finish it in front of their home crowd WITH Smith playing. No need for further discussion, it's a pointless suspension... if it was a Game 7, I'm sure they wouldn't suspend him!

Anyone who says that Terry flopped is an idiot. No one without a large experience in getting hit in the face would fall too.
