View Full Version : Better Dunker: Kobe, Wade, T-Mac or LeBron?

Element

In their primes. Vince not included for obvious reasons. I'd go

1. Kobe - He pulled off every possible dunk on would serve some nasty windmills and reverse dunks right down every defender ever. Had (and rediscovered some of it this season) a special flare on his dunks and looked really agile and graceful. 360's were the norm for a young Frobe.

2. T-Mac - Grace, power and smooth as hell. There's just something about the way he moves and elevates that's pleasing to watch. He was a ferocious dunker and didn't shy away from putting on an absolute show. That dunk on Shawn Bradley

3. Wade - Tbh, it's the way he set up his dunks that made them more appealing. He used to slither and zip his way through multiple defenders, spin and just TAKE OFF. Extreme fludity and had great hops and strength.

4. LeBron - Dunks with power and has been doing basically the same dunk 80% of the time since his Cavs days. That number shoots up to around 99.9% if you only include his Heat dunks. They were still very entertaining when he posterized someone but relatively boring in comparison to say, Kobe on Yao etc

Lebron when he's in the open court, his speed, his takeoff, his powerful throwdown, Gets me excited every single time.

but again, if it's a dunk contest, you would normally go to kobe, he's got flare dunks.

If we're talking about dunk, it's good practice to define what each person feels on what's "better". for me, a powerful dunk is less meaningful than say an athletic one.

That said, and assuming primes there is no doubt kobe is far ahead of the others.

Kobe
Tmac
Wade
Lebron

Tmac-wade can be argued either way, but tmac use to have poster dunks every game whereas wade has been really 3-4 every season. Lebron has yet to show any great in-game dunk that shows anywhere near the agility as the others.

I've never viewed Wade as an elite dunker, but he does have several "out of nowhere, holy shit" type dunks. He misses alot of dunks too.

I'd say prime Tmac had the most consistently nasty dunks out of that group.

People sleep on LeBron's dunk. In person they are AMAZING. TV doesn't do them justice. He jumps out the gym. And the power on his dunks are a thing to behold. They are LOUD too. On a fast break before he does his signature dunk, it looks like he's been shot out of a canon. All of these guys are first tier dunkers. They've all had monster facials. Comes down to preference I guess.

LosScandalous
05-02-2013, 05:32 PM
Kobe, TMac, Wade, bron in that order.

It's disapointing to see lebron dunk, his signature slam is pretty cool but too bad he does it 99% of the time.

SamuraiSWISH

LeBron's not a super creative open court dunker, but his in game power dunks and facials, or put back dunks are VERY nice. Stop sleeping.

Nah, VC, Erving, and MJ have that on lockdown.

He's in the next tier with Nique, Kobe, Pippen, Kemp, T-Mac etc.

VC, Erving, MJ had the combination of facials and tremendously exciting and transcendent and creative open court dunks. Also part of in game dunks. Something LeBron doesn't do as well.

LeBron is the best in-game dunker without question because he's the most physically gifted out of these guys, he makes simple dunks entertaining as hell. If it's a dunk contest, I'd probably go with Kobe until LeBron can show otherwise.

Not IMO ... He didn't have the body dexterity of the others, or the creativity. Honestly, he was pure power. Just like LeBron. Yet people put down LeBron's dunking capabilities all time time, all while being better athletically than Nique was.

I don't know why people are labeling LeBron's dunks boring. I have seen him do every possible in-game dunk.

Windmills, Reverses, 360s, all kinds of clutches through traffic, jump completly over people.

Heck, he was half a step away from completing a legit, in-game, free throw line dunk.

I don't think you can do more in game without being benched by your coach for risking of missing those dunks and getting your team in trouble.

In-game, your responsibility is to get the bucket (hi CJ Watson) first and then care about the points you would get in dunk competition.

Lets not act like 95% of the dunks by those other 3 have not been basic dunks too.

Because most people on ISH are just LeBron haters. How is it that the most gifted physical specimen we've possibly ever seen (6'8, 265lbs, one of the quickest players and strongest in the league) is not an entertaining dunker. You either haven't seen enough of his games or have only seen the ones they play on NBA.com or TV. :facepalm

But the most impressive, and perhaps most agressive dunker is Wade imo, so decisive... whenever he'd lift off there was no going back - whether it was a plausible dunk or not.

I agree, those guys have had better facial dunks than LeBron. Mainly because it looks better when smaller built players extend/**** back on dunks than when a bigger dude like LeBron does it.

But you gotta admit that LeBron has had some all-time posters. One of the most famous of all time.

in game dunking, out of those 4, i think kobe gets the nod.

tmac is somewhat underrated, he used to be so finesse and smooth getting off the ground, and then attack and finishes at the rim hard with those dunks.

lebron is pure power, im sure he can do any dunk he wants, but it all just look the same. plus i do agreed with the above posters, lebron never really posterize that many big men before. not like tmac and definitely not like kobe.

In game dunks:
1. T-Mac - very smooth with his dunks, but every now and then he would throw down with force. Poster on Shawn Bradley was just too epic for words.
2. LeBron - Power dunker. People hate his tomahawk, but its effortless and damn near unblockable.
3. Kobe - Has the most variety of poster dunks. He adds some style in his dunks too, but not as explosive like LeBron or effortless like TMac.
4. Wade - Has a wide assortment of monster dunks, but his posters probably are not as long as the other guys above.

Dunk Contest:
1. T-Mac
2. Kobe
3. LeBron
4. Wade

Only based on the NBA dunk contests. Wade or LeBron never competed so they have to go under.

I'm gonna have to go with Kobe.. I know he doesn't have the highest vertical leap and the longest airtime but what he does, given the limitations of his ability, is unbelievable.. His fluidity, body movement, flexibility while in the air is straight up artistic.. He's not a power dunker or a posterizer, he's more like a finesse dunker..

It really depends on what you want to see.. When young Bron would get a clear path it was over lol. Crazy power.. Wade is like Bron and kobe mixed but worse.. Kobe and tmac are similar but kobe probably has e most versatile dunking of them all with all the up and under dunks, spinning dnks etc.

Its because he's so physically gifted that his dunks aren't as sensational. No requirement of extra effort.

Even the dunk where he obliterated Sheed in the 07' playoffs doesn't ''seem'' that sensational...

Let's start naming all time greatest in-game dunkers.....

1. Kobe
2. VC
3. MJ
4. Shaq
5. Nique

Please don't be so cliche and have Nique and MJ as top guys just because they won the dunk contest. They were great contest dunkers but in-game dunks go to Kobe.

He has done it countless times on defenders bigger than him, in traffic and facials.

lmao at the lebron fans getting mad.. pauk
his dunks are boring as crap.. deal with it..

theres a reason this guy puussied out of slam dunk contests year after year because he knows he's got nothing.. while Vince with all time great contest, and Kobe also champion.. tmac also participated. Those guys at least got balls.

That's because you have never gone to a heat game. You should see lebron at warm up, dunks that you would usually see at a dunk contest, he does at warm up with ease. Look it up on YouTube and you will see.

Depends on what you value:

Kobe for creativity and dexterity
Wade if you like smaller guys that can throw down with power
Lebron for pure Explosiveness
T-mac has a combo of Kobe and Lebron

Elite 2 footed leapers will always have the edge over their counterparts. There's just something more authoritative and aesthetically pleasing about a dunk when you jump off 2 feet, especially when it's on someone.

The answer is Kobe. He's the best leaper of the 4, has long arms(can **** the ball way back) and creativity on top of it. If you watch the 4 players' top dunk mixes, Kobe's will look the most impressive.

never heard of that website. Ok so Wade has more than I thought, but T-Mac with only 22? Geez. But I based my list more on freestyle as well as poster dunks. That site should account how many alley oops and open court these guys get too.
