View Full Version : Iman Shumpert's flat top

I'm curious what other peoples thought's on it are. It makes him taller than what he actually is, and makes it more difficult for people to see over him. Is it an unfair advantage? Or is it not a big deal? I wonder, if someone had a flat top that was a foot high, if that would cause any sort of controversy.

I think Cole had it in college actually, shaved it and then brought it back. So technically he had it first. :(
And what, do you guys not like this guy too?

It's simply something role players do to gain more attention. I still remember Dennis Rodman rocking the rainbow hair do. Going against the "norm" is a staple for role players.

That's a terrible example. Explain his wedding dress at his book signing.
Cannot stand it...we talk about it every time we see him on TV...

not unfair, doubt they even notice it. something more distracting and unfair would be Faried's hair, it probably hits other players in the face and smells like a dumpster

Yes says me. He doesnt even have the sides faded properly. Looks like he gives himself haircuts.
And what relevance does you being white have to do with anything? Retarded, but given the "this" responses I'm guessing if you're white you really look this hairstyle. Eh

perhaps he wanted it improper if it's even improper. if i believed that it isn't proper, i'd be taking the word of some self righteous clown named gobb.
and i'm not even going to answer that stupid question, you can go figure that out for yourself.

Anyone thinking Shumpert's hair is "cool" is an idiot. Look at Dennis Rodman. Same guys saying Shumpert's hair is "cool" are the same fools praising the Worm for his rainbow haircuts. They are also the same guys with a "normal" hair cut and wouldn't dare go out the house with something on their head that resembles whatever Shumpert is styling.
seanclayton is a moron. I bet he wouldn't want his kids walking out the house with a flat top or a bird man mohawk. Guy is talking nonsense.

Your logic is non-existent. The guys that have a normal haircut (myself) praise shumpert's for a number of reasons;
1) Bringing back the 90s era
2) Having the balls to actually rock the flat-top
3) Being ABLE to have that style (white men can't, so its partially about envy)
GTFO here with your primitive reasoning.

False. Norris Cole has been rocking the flat top since his senior year at Cleveland State.

All I'm saying is you wouldn't let your kids walk out the house with a Bird Man mohawk. If you would, then you're dumber than you realize. You can claim all that "accepting" bull crap all you want. Reality is, if little Tyler wants a job, he better not walk in with a Bird Man mohawk or a Shumpert flat top.
You're a complete idiot if you believe otherwise.

I didn't say anyone who liked it is a bad person. I said anyone who thought it was cool or would let their kids rock it is an idiot. Society has changed. Yet, try going to a job interview with a Bird Man mohawk or a Shumpert flat top. Hell, you can't even get accepted to certain schools based on hair alone.
So, like I stated, you guys can respect him for rocking that hair style, yet don't for a second act like it's the norm or something you would want your kids wearing.
Shumpert looks like a fool and wouldn't get far with that hair cut in the real world out side the NBA or other entertainment type stuff.

Youre seriously comparing NBA players who are making loads of money and having whatever fcuking hairstyle they want to a 9-5 job?
Dont you think most people would have enough brains to know NOT to go into a blue or white collared job with a testy hairstyle? I wouldnt give a rats piss what hairstyle my kid had so as long as he/she knew when to tone down and when to go balls out. You seem to be dumb enough that there cannot be a grey area.

That's my point. In the real world, Bird Man mohawks and Shumpert flat tops aren't accepted. So, don't act like it is.
You know damn well you wouldn't want your kids wearing either.
My point was made, because certain posters here were replying acting like this Shumpert flat top style is something other people should be wearing, etc. Obviously, this is not the case and the reason I made my argument against it.

Haircuts, that's what a barber is for, If shump wanted to go to one tomorrow he could. If your kids cant understand that, oh well, survival of the fittest. I like wearing tank tops and basketball shoes casually from time to time, that doesn't mean I'll show up to a job interview with one.
I don't even like his hair neither but it's ridiculous you keep bring up "oh god forbid if a child saw Shumpert's haircut and wanted to have it" point. If you don't want them to see Shumpert's haircut, don't let the watch NBA games.
Saying shump couldn't get a job outside of the NBA is the same thing as saying a tattoo artist covered in tats couldn't get a job out of his parlor, you might be right but it's irrelevant.

No, the flat top I have no problem with. Going into a job interview, I PERSONALLY would not hold someones hairstyle against them. I judge and criticize people based on MERIT, not their appearance. I'm a graphic designer/web developer and in my field, I don't give a sh.t WHAT you look like, just show me results with your work.
Obviously there are a lot of superficial and ignorant bastards that will write you off if they dont approve of your appearances (hair or other) but that would not stop me from telling my kid to do one thing in private/public and another thing when going in for a job interview; there is an expected etiquette. Duh.

As stated, Shumpert's flat top or Bird Man's mohawk shouldn't be viewed as the norm. Normal people go to work at 9 to 5 jobs. Obviously, employers are a different breed than ISH posters. No matter how "accepting" society may seem on the outside, inside is a another world. Inside that world you will be judged based on appearance. Like it or not. That is life. That is reality.
Point I'm making is, it's okay for people to like this hair style. However, certain posters here were making it out like other people should wear this hair style and be more "unique", etc. The problem with that is the average person doesn't work in entertainment and doesn't make millions of dollars. The average person has to look, well, average.
That's all I'm saying and all I will say on this subject. I'm already beating a dead horse.

Graphic design is a field with a more relaxed standard. If you show up to a job interview for a finance/accounting/business position with a flat top, then your chances of landing the job are slim to none.
