Tyson is not a max contract player, and really only made the All Star team by default because the East is so weak with frontcourt players.

Tyson is great, but he's a defensive specialist only. He is a liability when he touches the ball.

True for the most part, but he's worth his money. There are a lot more offensive specialists in this league, so premium defenders are hard to come by.

Indeed, that 2000 Lakers were pretty much Shaq and a bunch of role players. Phil Jackson sure played a great role in it as the head coach, but other than him Shaq had little help. He dominated the entire league all by himself, one of the greatest one-man show.

I still don't get why you'd want the media to vote for such an important award. I mean :banghead:

I'd have the coaches and captains vote.

The Miami Heat's superstar fell one vote shy of being the league's first unanimous MVP winner when the Boston Globe's Gary Washburn, a sports writer who has covered the NBA for nine years, cast his ballot in favor of the New York Knicks' Carmelo Anthony. The award is determined by a group of 120 sportswriters and broadcasters, and an online fan vote.

"I just honestly felt that Carmelo Anthony lifted the Knicks to new heights this season

MVP's mean nothing. Period.

I agree, it's a media driven award and I'm not hating cause I've been pretty much done with sports for awhile now ...but lets be real ... what value do you have on a team with two other superstars?

No hate for LeBron, he had an phenomenal year im just saying, the name doesnt fit the award. It's like saying who was the most valuable player on the 1992 dream team, it wouldn't matter.

They should just call the award "Player of The Year." It's never that cut and dry with MVP awards. The meaning of "most valuable" has always been sloppy and unclear. So media writers get to make up their own definition for what it means.

It'd be easier if they called it POY instead of MVP.

The guy who voted for Melo was on Mike & Mike and his reasons were legit although I don't agree with him. He was going solely on the definition of "most valuable", and not the best player in the league. He pointed out the obvious examples of '93 & '97 when Jordan lost to Barkley and Malone.

I don't think writers should be allowed to vote for any awards in any sport.

"When I placed my NBA MVP vote a few weeks ago, I knew I would be in the minority. I knew LeBron James was the prohibitive favorite to win his fourth award because he unquestionably is the best player in the game.

I voted for Carmelo Anthony based on his importance to the New York Knicks, who, if you haven

Whether or not you agree, his rationale is sound. MVP has always been a strange award. The criteria is far too subjective and having the media vote on it just allows them to push agendas.

I think anyone who thinks this is even vaguely interesting needs more to do in their life.

definitely.
the award is awkwardly stuck between 2 spots: team award, and valuable player.

Most of the time it is just the player that puts up the best stats on the best team: team award.

other times it is the true most valuable player to their team: AI, Nash etc

They should definitely clear it up.. and.. media voted award?

This award has lost all credibility long ago when Nash won 2 straight. I mean Shaq only has 1. Someone might want to explain that.

Haha, no shit. Some years it's we vote for the clearly best player... next year it's the best player on the best team... and this type of guy casts his vote for most valuable to his RESPECTIVE TEAM? That's 3 different rationales to vote for someone.

But the award is "National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player" award.

It's not the "National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player to their Respective Team" award. It's not the MVPRT.

It's not the "National Basketball Association Best Player on the Best Team" award. It's not the NBABPBT.

It's the NBA MVP. Who is the most valuable player in the entire league?

Which player at the end of the day could net you any other player in the league via a 1 on 1 trade taking into account the one year only?

If you could start a team from scratch in hopes of winning a title for that 1 season only and build around one guy, who would it be?

Clearly that guy this year was LeBron James.

Carmelo Anthony wasn't even the most valuable player to his respective team, which is the reasoning this guy chose Carmelo.

Where is Cleveland without Kyrie Irving? Oh, but because the Knicks have a better overall team, that makes Carmelo more valuable? Lol. Give me a break.

Is there any doubt in anyone's mind at all that the Knicks would NOT have been better with LeBron in Carmelo's place? GTFO if you think they'd be worse.

The award itself isn't a joke, nor has it ever been a joke. The people selecting the award... their brains... or lack thereof, that's the joke here. They're just shy of being a bunch of retards. People in general are just retards. There's nothing we can do to correct this.

The coaches... the players... the media... the posters here... mostly all retards. In fact, at least 95% of humanity isn't worth conversing with in terms of actual intellectual / philosophical discussions.

How many people post here? Probably thousands? Know how many people that post here that are more than surface level observers of the game? Probably less than 10.

Maybe... but in reality Rose's selection was far, far worse than this.

Fail to see what Knicks last 19 seasons had to do with the current one.... awful voting logic.

His logic is good, but the 'player who means most to his team' is either kyrie or wall

Team MVP: Wall, Melo, Harden, in that order

League MVP: Lebron, Durant. Maybe Durant first, but ONLY because without Durant, Lebron is the unquestioned "king" of the league for the next 5+ years. With Durant at least there can be some (misguided) debate.

So the guy that voted for Melo was just wrong on all fronts, though Melo does have one thing over Durant -- Team MVP.
