View Full Version : Why does Bill Russell hate ESPN?

Was listening to a Bill Simmons podcast and he talked about how Bill Russell will never work with ESPN because he hates ESPN.
Anyone know why?

I'm sure his reasoning isn't any different from the rest of ours :confusedshrug:

Because of their overrating of players of today's generation and skipping them over past greats like they're yesterday's trash.
People keep saying Lebron vs. MJ. Shit, Lebron hasn't even passed Hakeem, Shaq, Duncan, Kobe, Kareem, Wilt, Magic, Bird yet. They bumped him up to God status while by passing all the past greats.

The guy is senile as fck.
Probably doesnt know what ESPN even is.
Probably because he's mad that they label Michael Jordan the G.O.A.T. even though he has 11 rings.

MJ/Kareem/Russell/Bird/Magic are the Mt. Rushmore of the NBA.
Lebron will never be on that echelon.

Larry Bird/Magic is on the NBA Mt.Rushmore but Kobe isn't?
Explain yourself.
When it's all said and done,
Bryant will be at least a 5x NBA Champ..
Top 2 GUARD of all time.
2nd all time scorer in history.

Lebron JOINED a super team in the prime of his career. No player in the history of the NBA has ever done that. I repeat, no player in the history of the NBA has done that.
He kissed his legacy goodbye in 2010. :confusedshrug:

Ok..? Can you explain why LeBron had to score more points than Kobe has EVER scored in his 5x post-season run to win the championship? I guess that means Kobe's teams were the Avengers. :confusedshrug:

That's... Pretty questionable. To many, he's only the 3rd greatest Laker of all-time. His torn Achilles isn't helping at all.

Well youre certainly right that lebron, shaq, and duncan along with the other guys mentioned are superior to kobe by a substantial margin. and while shaq and duncan may be every bit as good as russell, jordan, kareem, magic, and bird, i think from a perception standpoint, those five really are considered to be the 'mount rushmore' of basketball royalty. if lebron continues to have a significant period of team success, because of how popular he already is, he does have a chance to join that group by the time his career is over.
but kobe is def on the mount rushmore of post-jordan 1-on-5 streetball chuckers, along with iverson, t-mac, carter, carmelo, and westbrook .

Unbiased basketball fans know Lebron is going to clearly pass Kobe barring injury. The whole "b-b-b-but he went to a great team" argument is for clowns who don't realize every player in the top 10 had great teams around them. And fools who just hate Lebron because their insecure about Kobe's legacy. I'm not going to argue Kobe vs Lebron because god knows nobody wants to hear it, but the fact that you're 16 years old is really showing right now. Like I said anyone who is objective about basketball and doesn't consider their opinion to be fact can see Lebron is on his way to being top 5. Kobe is 7 at absolute best. U mad?

I could have ether'd him with Lebron JOINED a super team in the prime of his career, and lacks any mental fortitude any of the other ATG's had. Not only that, but he lost to a subpar Mavericks team, while being the overwhelming favorite. Too much video footage to try and hide that.
It was just easier to call out his hypocrisy. :confusedshrug:

Lebron didn't have prime Shaq early in his career though. No disrespect ti Kobe, he's an all-time great and a true champion, but do you truly believe he'd still have 5 rings if he had ANY other center at that time?

Doesn't matter. He had what he had and he did not leave his team. And he has already proven he doesn't need a dominant teammate to win, and win multiple times.

Well with that reasoning does Jordan win 6 rings without pippen?
Difference is Lebron quit on his team to take the easy way out. He thinks stats and asterisked rings make up for being a quitter and having the heart of a bitch.
Not to mention single handedly losing the finals for his stacked team and being the most anti clutch choker of all time:lol
