View Full Version : Macklemore Tells OKC To F#ck Off

The OKC Thunder are reportedly using Macklemore's song Cant Hold Us to pump up their crowd during home games, and the Seattle rapper is not happy about it.

First they steal Macklemore's team, now they use his music without his permission. Hey hillbillies, leaching onto Seattle does not make you a major market team.

They play like 100 songs at every NBA game over the course of the entire night (pre-game warm ups, the actual game, the time outs, half-time, etc). I don't think they get the permission of all 100 artists for every game.

Yeah except there's been enough mainstream white rappers since then for it to be no longer taboo or newsworthy. So when someone says a wannabe Eminem to a white rapper it's no longer relevant

It's like telling Justin Timberlake he's a wanna be Elvis Presley....huh??

Your analogy doesn't work because there were big time white performers before JT and Elvis.

In the rap game, there was no one that was white that had the impact that Eminem did and there hasn't been anyone since.

most people will hate on macklemore because he has a goofy haircut and his first legit hit is a goofy song that pokes fun at consumerism. something all the sheeple hold close to their heart. I'm not going to try to convince anyone that he is a good rapper, but I'll say he is everything that is right with the music industry and the opposite of what is wrong. If you are an informed person you will know what that means.

Your analogy doesn't work because there were big time white performers before JT and Elvis.

In the rap game, there was no one that was white that had the impact that Eminem did and there hasn't been anyone since.

It does work because Elvis was one of the first white dudes to do black music and make it mainstream and jirate his hips in ways which excited the young women in the crowd, and JT does R&b and excites the ladies of this era with his moves....

The success of Eminem in the rap game is not at stake here, no one is arguing that. But him bein a token white rapper is no longer the case.

I've said it once, and I'll say it again. Lil Wayne was b*tch in the 90's. Still is. He was Juvenile, Bird Man, and Ca$h Money's midget clown dancing on stage like a stripper for money. And Ca$h money was down the list of record labels. No Limit, Death Row, Bad Boy, all had better talent. So, the b*tch of ca$h money is now today's biggest star...what f'ing joke!

Whoever owns the publishing (assuming there are no strange terms of use clauses with the label) decides what can be done with their work.

However. Anybody can use a cover version of any song as long as they pay a royalty fee. Like, I could go record and sell a cover version of any Rolling Stones song and there's nothing they can do to stop me as long as I pay a royalty.

Real or not, you're generalizing. Who is to say all real hipsters are the same??? And you're right about the word being a one of the most generalized terms used today. A "real" hipster joining a major label would be contingent of how much control they have of their music. If given artistic freedom many would do it despite being mainstream. The idea of watering down the term to a streamlined definition is counter-intuitive to how many hipsters actually feel.

I would agree it would be out of the ordinary for a hipster to sign with a major label considering the rarity of obtaining artistic freedom as a new band. I don't think a "real" hipster would sacrifice their art nor any real artist for that matter.

Example: I like Kobe, so I'm going to show how much I hate LeBron.
