Not sure if there was a thread on this already but at the draft lottery today, he standing next to that kid who represented the team, and the female ESPN reporter, he looked closer to that 10 year old kid's size than the reporters. Not to mention Adam Silver completely dwarfed him as well and I don't know that Silver is especially tall.
Is Dan Gilbert like 5'3 or something? Anyone know?
Not that it's a big deal, it just appeared like he was startlingly short, I was wondering if that's actually the case or if it was the TV angle.

Forbes report:
The new owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers likes to play rough. Especially when it comes to the online mortgage business.
Daniel Gilbert, founder and chairman of Quicken Loans, limps into his cramped office in his mortgage company's headquarters in Livonia, Mich. Just a few days earlier he'd torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during his weekly pickup basketball game. It's a sport the 43-year-old has always loved but never excelled in because of his height (he's 5 foot 6). That's never stopped him from trying--or from boasting that he has already reached the pinnacle of the sport. In March Gilbert plunked down $375 million to buy the NBA's Cleveland Cavaliers. "Statistically it's harder to become an owner of a pro sports team than it is to be a pro athlete," he says, smiling through his pain.

5-6 is short, but not abnormally short.

There are some here who would tell you he was a starting center in the NBA of the 60's.

I actually thought he was a ''little person'' when I saw the video... looks to be more in the Danny Devito range tbh. I guess the other two owners were quite tall.

I believe Devito led the Minneapolis Lakers to five titles in the 50's.

Is he 5"6 in shoes or without them? I reckon he's claimed that in shoes and is actually 5"4 which is very short.

It might seem shallow, but I'm extremely glad I didn't have to live my life as a short man.

Again, I wasn't able to see tonight's draft coverage, but he hasn't looked obscenely short in the past.
This was the Kyrie Irving draft...

I'd also hate to be 7ft tall (unless I was athletic enough to play NBA). Either way your always going to be looked at and nothing you can do to change it.

Dan gilbert is on the left. I mistook him as the guy on the right when I quickly glanced at the TV.

I stand between 6'4-6'5 in shoes. Pretty much perfect. Tall, but normal kinda tall. Not freakishly tall where its unusual.

Is it usual for people to state their height in shoes? I thought that was just a basketball player thing...

Tall enough to pull .5% of his bank account in 100s, stand on them, and be the tallest person in this thread.

It's ok I'm 6'3 and I get rejected by the rim on every dunk attempt... I'd definitely trade an inch or two for some vertical hops.

Forget Gilbert's height...
Who else wants to slap the sh*t outta his son, just one time?
Nothing against him at all...he's just got a slappable face:oldlol:
Maybe I'm bitter the kid is so friggin rich and still looks like a dweeb.

"Disabled" is really not the correct word for his son. He isn't mentally challenged or paralyzed in any way. He has a nerve disorder called Neurofibromatosis that makes tumors grow all over his body at uncontrollable rates. He's had countless chemotherapy treatments, he's lost vision in one eye and he's had major brain surgery.
And he's only 16.
I don't think my statement was all that presumptuous.

Oh... that sounds awful. Very sad.
Still presumptuous. In any case, I don't think anyone will joke about it knowing that he has a painful disease. At least I hope not.

Not like everyone should just automatically know the guy has been through so much at such a young age. Not trying to make you feel like sh!t or anything.
Just thought it is something you should know.

I kinda want Nick Gilbert to take over for his dad running the day to day soon as he hits 18 then take Adam Silver's spot. Tyrion Lannister style. Obviously his dad's rich, kid's comfortable around big time athletes, go get a JD and rule with an iron fist. Shit would just make a great story.
I mean seriously, your dad owns a team, he can obviously put you through any law school you want if you put in the work. You inherit a team, been in major meetings shadowing Dan your whole life, the kid's obviously interested in taking the throne.
Nick Gilbert, 30 year old NBA commish. Make it happen. And when it does make the default NBA press release font Comic Sans.

I like the way you think.
But only if he can still represent the Cavs at the lottery. Then again, hopefully this will be our last one for a while.
