The one without a gutter attitude, no respect, the one who didn't show his true colors on MTV's punk'd, the one who isn't a primadonna, and the one without an ego so big that it barely fits in Madison Square Garden.

Then there is the age difference...

You forgot the most important bit: The one who plays well on BOTH sides.

George has no go to offensive game whatsoever, and Melo is lazy, and shot jacks.

Tough one to pick really. Question is, if you surrounded them with the perfect complimentary pieces, who would have more success?

Yea Paul George is an amazing defender. He gives Lebron the open lane with 2 seconds to go, for the game winner.

George's offense is streaky and inconsistent, a trait not uncommon among young players. He has steadily improved his first few years in the league. Now that he's poised to become The Man on a contender, he'll have to elevate his game.

But George defends, is a willing (though still developing) passer, and can play a lot of roles based on what the team needs that night.

I'll take George any day and twice on Sunday.

Vogel got out coached and George got set up by the MVP and recognized best player in the game. That'll happen to a young player shouldering a lot of responsibility.

Hopefully, he'll learn from his mistakes.

Anthony has had a decade to do so and hasn't yet.

I like Melo, but I'd pick George for the following reasons:
- younger
- more athletic
- doesn't shot jack
- always plays with the team's offense*
- better defender

*Carmelo has a tendency to take his teammates out of games by shot jacking or lack of ball movement through constant iso plays. Paul George doesn't do that. He follows what Coach Frank throws his way and if his shot isn't falling much, he has no problem deferring to teammates.

I'd rather have George. I don't think Melo is good enough to win as a #1, so I'd rather have a perfect #2 in Paul and try to get to lucky with a superstar. Or else build a GOAT level defense like the 04 Pistons/93 Knicks/08 Celtics.

To be fair. George has a very good PG that can defend, and score. Hard nosed PF that plays D, and also very good on offense. A great rim protector in Hibbert that can also score.

I don't think anyone can argue that Melo's team is as good as George's.

Melo led his team to the WCF, George is a role player.

This would be like comparing Chris Bosh to Dirk.

Bosh was a role player for his ring, Dirk was the leader.

Yes, defense and intangibles are at a premium, but the very essence of basketball is putting the ball through the hole.

LOL really Granger maybe the best player last year .. but this year we can all agree that this is PG's team.. and the years to come... Granger may not even be resigned once his contract expires..

Melo may have always been the leader of his team.. but what has he proven aside from scoring?

Hibbert is their best player. They don't beat the Knicks without him.

Melo is the better talent.. but if I were building a team from scratch I easily start with Paul George because

-he has a great team first attitude that promotes chemistry and a great culture

-he does the dirty work AKA defense-->great leadership. Shows less talented players hes willing to lead by example and do even the small things. This is huge.

-hes still a very talented player on top of that.

Melo is a terrible leader and teammate.. he doesnt perform the actions necessary to get guys to follow him. He only puts effort into performing his 'superstar' duties and if his shot is off, which it almost always is in the playoffs he is a net negative for your team.

Paul George can't carry a team offensively, and I'm guessing that he'll never be able to. Melo can.

Will PG sniff the Hall of Fame? I doubt it, but Melo will.

I'll take one of the most talented scorers in the history of the game.

TheReal Kendall
05-23-2013, 06:46 PM
Seems like most people keep talking about D. Are we comparing D or all around game? Melo isn't great at D but he has improved. I'll take Melo over PG at this point in their careers. PG is young and still trying to find his way. Like someone said put Melo on the Pacers and they win it all. PG on the Knicks not so much. The only thing PG got over Melo is his D.

Right now Carmelo is the better player but long term I'd rather have George. I think he's going to become a 20+ PPG scorer and he's an above average defender, rebounder and is an ok passer. He'll end up being the more complete player and obviously he's younger.

PG should never really be your first option (he's a perfect 2nd option), but frankly I don't find (nor history apparently) running through Carmelo Anthony that much better. I'd take George because he's pretty easily the best defensive player at the sf position and a game changer there. He's basically a Scottie Pippen lite with less ball handling and passing skills. If you have to start with either of them...I'm always going to take the more complete player. Stopping the ball from going in the basket is just as important as putting it in said basket. Paul George.

In the first two months of the season, George was a 23 PPG, 47% FG, 44% 3PT, top 3 perimeter defender player in the league, leading the team with the best record in the NBA. He was a more valuable, two way player, and deserving of his praise including being ranked over Melo.

Now? Lol, over the last three months, George has been performing like Melo in the playoffs last year. His FG% is laughable at 39%/40% since January, and defensive impact has waned as well. Meanwhile, though the Knicks suck ass, Melo is putting up 28 and 9 on a respectable FG% and exceptional 3PT%.

Not Melo's biggest fan to say the least, but yeah, Melo was the better player this year. George went from Top 5 in December to falling out the Top 12 for the season :facepalm
